If you’re asking, “Why is my autocorrect not working on Samsung?”, first identify what has stopped: word suggestions, automatic replacement, or spelling corrections. Samsung Keyboard treats these as separate features, so checking the matching setting is the quickest, least disruptive fix.
First, make sure Samsung Keyboard is active
Open Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default > Default keyboard. If you want Samsung Keyboard’s correction features, select Samsung Keyboard. If another keyboard is selected, its settings control suggestions and corrections; Samsung advises contacting the third-party keyboard’s developer for issues with that app. Menu labels and paths can vary by device and software version. Choose the setting that matches what is missing
Open Samsung Keyboard settings by tapping the keyboard’s gear icon, or go to Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings. Then check the control for the specific symptom. Samsung lists alternate paths on some versions, including Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard and settings under Smart typing. - No suggestions appear: Turn on Predictive text and check that it is enabled for the language you are typing in. Predictive text learns typing habits to offer vocabulary suggestions.
- Suggestions appear, but the chosen word is not inserted automatically: Check Auto replace and enable it for the relevant language. Samsung says the highlighted candidate is inserted when you press the spacebar or Enter; a suggestion appearing by itself does not mean automatic replacement is enabled.
- Misspellings are not underlined or correction suggestions are absent: Check Auto spell check. Samsung describes this feature as underlining misspelled words in red and suggesting likely corrections. On some versions, related controls may be labeled Suggest text corrections.
If autocorrect works in some apps but not others
Check whether text-correction settings offer Suggest text corrections and Manage apps, which can control which apps receive corrections. Samsung Canada documents this app-level setting for the default Samsung Keyboard. Its guidance is for devices sold in Canada, and Samsung notes that available screens and settings vary by country. App behavior can therefore differ; do not assume that a keyboard setting will affect every app in the same way. Samsung Canada’s keyboard settings guide explains the app controls.

Remove an unwanted learned suggestion without resetting the keyboard
Remove one word
When the unwanted word appears in the Samsung Keyboard suggestion bar, touch and hold it, then tap Remove. This addresses a single bad learned suggestion.
Clear personalized predictions
To clear personalized prediction history in bulk, open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Reset to default settings > Erase personalized predictions. Depending on the version or region, the option may instead be labeled Clear personalised data. This is different from clearing all Samsung Keyboard app data, which removes keyboard settings and saved words. Samsung documents the learned-word and prediction controls in its auto-correct and predictive text guidance.

If the keyboard itself is freezing or failing
Use Samsung’s troubleshooting sequence only when the keyboard is malfunctioning, not simply because a correction setting is off. Start with reversible checks and reserve data-clearing and device-reset steps for later.

- Optimize and restart: Use Device care to optimize the device, then restart the phone or tablet.
- Clear Samsung Keyboard data only if needed: In Settings, find Samsung Keyboard under the device’s app settings and clear its data. The exact app-settings path varies. This erases keyboard settings, including saved words, so try the earlier steps first.
- Check for a software update: Install any available update and see whether the keyboard problem remains.
- Test in Safe mode: Safe mode can help determine whether a third-party app is causing keyboard errors. If the keyboard works normally there, uninstall recently installed apps one at a time and retest.
- Consider factory reset only as a last resort: A factory reset erases device data. Back up the device before considering it, and do not use it as a first-line fix for autocorrect.

When settings do not match your screen
Samsung keyboard options depend on the model, operating system, region, and keyboard in use. If a setting is missing, look under Smart typing or the older Language and input and On-screen keyboard menus; an older device may not offer every feature. Samsung’s US guidance notes: “Some options for predictive text will not be available for older devices and operating systems.”
