“Restart Hulu” can mean two different things: resubscribe after canceling, or close and reopen a Hulu app that is frozen or failing to play. If you canceled, Hulu says you can sign up again with the same login information. If your subscription is active, start with the app and connection—not your plan.
Choose the right restart for your problem

Restart a canceled Hulu subscription
- Sign in with the same Hulu login information you used before. Hulu says you can sign up again after canceling without creating a different account. Hulu’s restart instructions
- Check who bills you if you cannot manage or renew the plan through Hulu. On Hulu’s Account page, look at Payment Information. Subscribers billed by a third party may need to make subscription changes through that provider. Hulu billing information
- If Hulu bills you directly, use the Your Subscription section of the Account page to manage the plan. A partner-billed subscriber should use the partner’s process instead. Hulu billing information
Restart Hulu when the app is frozen or playback fails
Keep this separate from subscription changes: a playback problem is not a reason to cancel or renew a working plan. Menu names and update procedures vary by device, so use the settings for your TV, streaming device, phone, or computer.

- Fully exit Hulu, then open it again. Leaving the app running in the background may not refresh it; close it using your device’s app controls.
- Check for updates. Install any available Hulu app update, then check for an operating-system or device software update.
- Clear cache or data if your device offers the option. Use the device’s settings rather than assuming a universal Hulu menu path. Clearing data can remove stored temporary information; you may need to sign in again.
- Test your internet connection. If other services or devices are also slow, investigate the connection before changing Hulu account settings.

Compare your connection with Hulu’s speed recommendations
Hulu’s Help Center published the following sustained download-speed recommendations on September 28, 2026. They are recommendations, not a guarantee of uninterrupted playback on every device or Wi-Fi setup. Run a speed test on the device or network you use for Hulu and compare the result with the relevant recommendation. Consider whether other people or devices are using the connection at the same time. If testing points to a Wi-Fi connection problem, trying a wired connection may be an option when both your device and router support it; Hulu’s cited guidance does not say that you need to buy an Ethernet cable. Fix a Hulu + Live TV Home network error
Use this path only when the issue concerns Hulu + Live TV access or local channels. Hulu says the Home network determines local-channel access for Live TV. Its help article says the Home network can be changed up to four times in a 12-month period, and mobile users need to check in at Home every 30 days to avoid interruptions to Live TV on mobile. Where Hulu content is available
In a May 2026 help-page update, Hulu said Hulu content remained available through the Hulu app and website; eligible plans could also access content through Disney+. The page excluded Live TV Only and Hulu Add-ons from that Disney+ access description. Availability therefore depends on the plan, and this statement describes Hulu’s guidance as of May 2026 rather than a promise about future product changes. Hulu’s content availability information
