For a typical first playthrough, prioritize a combat- or parry-focused skill branch. If you are surviving individual clashes but dying during longer encounters, take recovery next. Against shielded enemies, an early kick or guard-breaking upgrade may be more useful than either general choice.
Which skills should you unlock first?
Start with combat or parrying for a broadly useful first investment, then adapt your next purchase to the problem you are actually facing. This is a conditional recommendation: the available guides do not verify a best named skill node for every player.
- Default choice: Invest in the combat- or parry-focused branch.
- If you are losing health over long fights: Choose recovery next.
- If shielded enemies are stopping your attacks: Consider a kick or guard-breaking upgrade early.
- After those needs are covered: Look at utility or ability-duration improvements that fit the tools and encounters you use most.
The branch-order advice comes from a fan-made guide, not official developer guidance or a verified comparison of every skill. Treat it as a useful starting point rather than a fixed build.

The gameplay guide describes Sophia’s encounters as melee-focused: parry yellow attacks, dodge red attacks, and use kicks against defensive enemies to break their posture. Those cues make combat and parry improvements relevant from early fights onward. A kick may also help against shield users by staggering them or making them drop their guard.

PC Gamer reviewer Jody Macgregor reported that the kick was the first thing he upgraded, saying, “I liked the kick so much it was the first thing I upgraded with the ‘resonance points’ you earn from defeating groups of enemies or finding seashells lying on the ground.” That is one reviewer’s preference, not evidence that kick is the universally strongest first purchase; it is a concrete option if guarded enemies are your main obstacle.
When recovery should come before more offense
Choose recovery earlier if you can handle enemy moves but struggle to stay alive through extended encounters. The fan guide recommends recovery for players having difficulty in longer fights. If the main issue is instead a specific defensive enemy, a kick or guard-breaking improvement may address the cause more directly than a general survival upgrade.

Can you refund skill points?
The independent gameplay guide says Resonance Points can be refunded from the Skills menu while outside combat. If you want to test a different branch, check the current game version and menu behavior before spending on the assumption that refunds remain available.
How large is the skill tree?
A fan-made guide updated September 1, 2026, describes six mastery branches, each with one base skill and two sub-skills, and reports that completing the full tree costs 165 points. These are guide-reported figures, not official figures confirmed here. The exact costs of individual branches and nodes are not established by the available information, so check the in-game tree rather than planning around unverified cost breakdowns.
