Spoilers for Chapter 4: The Arena puzzle is the final mechanism in the First Trial. Walk around the circular platform first so Sophia records the linked floor symbols in her journal. Then use the movable reflectors to light three linked pairs of medallions: the bell and T-like marks, the M-like mark and triangle, and a final pair revealed on the statue’s hand rings with the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal. The last successful pairing starts a fight; defeat the attackers to open the way forward.
What the Arena puzzle requires
The Arena mechanism is not solved by guessing every symbol on the walls. It is a sequence of three linked pairs. Each pair is represented by floor markings and matching wall medallions. You redirect reflected light until both medallions in the current pair are illuminated at the same time.

The first two solutions move the statue’s hands onto the central platform. Only after both hands have moved can you expose the symbols for the third solution. That hidden pair is not meant to be identified from the original wall arrangement; use the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal on the rings attached to the hands.
Guide descriptions use informal names for several glyphs. Names such as “bell,” “T,” “M,” “triangle,” “half-6,” “W” and “H” are not consistent between guides. Treat those labels as orientation aids only. Sophia’s journal, the floor sequence and the symbols visible in your game are the authoritative references.

Prepare before touching the reflectors
Walk the entire circular platform
Before adjusting a reflector, make a complete circuit of the Arena. Inspect the markings on the floor as you go. Sophia records the linked symbols in her journal, and the order of the floor markings helps you connect a symbol to the correct position around the walls.
This survey is the most important setup step. If you begin moving beams immediately, a wall mark may appear worn away or absent and you can lose the relationship between the two targets. The journal preserves that relationship even when a symbol is difficult to see in the room.
Use the journal as a map, not a nickname list
Open the journal after Sophia has finished recording the markings. Match each floor symbol to the corresponding wall position. Look for the paired entry rather than relying on a visual description supplied by a walkthrough. A symbol that looks like a letter from a distance may have a different shape in the game’s light, and the same glyph can be described differently by different guides.

A correct pair produces a visible statue movement. The first completed pair raises one hand; the second raises the other. If the statue does not move, at least one beam is not reaching the medallion beneath the intended symbol, or the two illuminated targets do not belong to the same journal pair.
The three Arena pairs at a glance
| Stage | Targets to illuminate | How to identify them | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| First pair | Bell-shaped mark and T-like mark | Use the floor sequence and Sophia’s journal to locate both matching medallions. | Part of the statue moves and the first hand rises. |
| Second pair | M-like mark and triangle | Follow the journal when a wall marking is faint or appears missing. | The second hand rises onto the platform. |
| Final pair | The two symbols revealed on the hand rings | Shine the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal on the rings after both hands are in position. | The mechanism completes and an enemy attack begins. |
Step-by-step solution
1. Record the linked pairs
- Enter the circular Arena platform and walk around its full perimeter.
- Inspect each floor marking instead of stopping at the first obvious symbol.
- Wait for Sophia to make her journal entry, then open the journal and review the linked pairs.
- Use the floor order to determine where each symbol belongs on the surrounding wall. Keep this map available while you aim the reflectors.
Do not skip this step because one wall target can look damaged or blank. The journal and floor pattern supply the missing information.
2. Illuminate the bell-and-T-like pair
- Identify the medallion beneath the bell-shaped symbol and the medallion beneath the T-like symbol shown by the journal.
- Adjust the movable reflectors so the reflected beams travel to those two medallions.
- Check the endpoint of each beam, not merely the direction of the beam. It must land on the medallion below the symbol.
- When both members of the pair are lit together, the statue responds and raises its first hand.
If nothing moves, return to the journal and verify that you selected the linked targets rather than two symbols that happen to be adjacent. A beam that passes near a medallion is not enough; the light must illuminate the target itself.
3. Illuminate the M-like-and-triangle pair
- Use the journal and the floor sequence to locate the M-like symbol and the triangle.
- Find the corresponding wall medallions. If one mark appears worn away, infer its position from the floor order and the journal entry instead of searching for a clearer version elsewhere on the wall.
- Redirect the reflectors until both medallions receive light at the same time.
- Confirm the second statue hand moves onto the platform. That movement is the signal that the second pair was accepted.
The statue’s first movement does not reveal the final symbols. Complete this second pair before trying to use Light Reveal.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors4. Reveal the hidden symbols on the hands
- Wait until both statue hands have moved onto the central platform.
- Equip or activate the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal.
- Shine the reveal effect directly onto the rings on the statue’s hands.
- Look for the two newly exposed symbols. These are the targets for the final stage.
The reveal is conditional: using it before both hands are in place will not give you the final pair. The rings, rather than the original wall markings, are where the last symbols are displayed.
5. Complete the revealed pair
- Match each newly revealed hand-ring symbol to its corresponding wall medallion.
- Use the reflectors to send light to both matching medallions.
- Ignore a guide’s nickname if it conflicts with the glyph in your game. Compare the shape you can see after Light Reveal with the journal and the wall pattern.
- Keep adjusting until both targets are illuminated together.
There is no separate combination to enter after the reveal. The final action is the same reflected-light process used for the first two pairs, but the ring symbols tell you which medallions to select.

6. Survive the encounter and continue
Completing the final pair triggers an enemy attack. The puzzle is not considered a safe-room interaction after the mechanism activates, so be ready to fight immediately. Defeat the attackers, then use the route that opens after the encounter to continue through Chapter 4.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to aim the reflected light reliably
The Arena can be confusing because the reflector position and the target position are separated. Judge every adjustment by the beam’s endpoint. A reflector can appear to point toward the correct side of the room while the light actually terminates beside the intended medallion.
- Choose one target at a time while tracing the beam from its source to its destination.
- Confirm that the light reaches the medallion beneath the symbol, not merely the wall around it.
- After setting the first beam, check that changing the second reflector has not displaced it.
- Use the journal to verify the pair before making fine reflector adjustments.
- Wait for the statue’s movement before treating a stage as complete.
The mechanism accepts pairs, not individual symbols. Lighting one correct medallion will not advance the puzzle until its linked partner is illuminated as well.
Troubleshooting common blocks
A wall symbol seems to be missing
Do not assume the puzzle is broken. Return to Sophia’s journal and follow the order of the floor markings. The missing or worn wall mark has a corresponding position that can be inferred from that sequence. Aim at the medallion associated with the inferred position and test the pair.
The statue has not moved after two beams are lit
Check both beam endpoints. One may be stopping short of a medallion, or the two lit medallions may come from different journal pairs. Re-map the floor symbols and make sure you are solving the current pair rather than mixing targets from the first and second stages.
The final symbols are not visible
Complete both earlier pairs first. The statue’s hands must be on the platform before the Sphere Key’s Light Reveal exposes the last symbols. Once the hands are in place, direct the reveal onto the rings themselves rather than the surrounding wall.
You cannot tell which glyph a guide means
Visual nicknames are inconsistent. A mark called “half-6” in one guide may be called “W” or “H” in another, and those labels do not establish a universal identification. Use the in-game shape, the journal entry and the revealed ring symbols together. The solution depends on matching the actual glyphs, not on agreeing with a nickname.
A beam appears to hit the wrong target
Trace it to the medallion under the intended symbol. If the endpoint is offset, adjust the reflector until the medallion is illuminated. Then confirm that the second beam reaches the linked partner. Both targets must be active for the statue to respond.
What happens after the puzzle
The successful final pair is the end of the Arena mechanism, not the end of the trial. Its completion immediately leads to combat. Defeat the attackers, then proceed through the route opened by the statue and mechanism. If the route is not available, the final pair has not registered or the encounter is still active.
