Resident Evil Requiem rewards different habits for its two protagonists. As Grace, inspect threats, decide whether an encounter is worth the supplies, and turn infected enemy blood into the item that solves your most urgent problem. As Leon, preserve flexibility by combining firearms, hatchet attacks, melee, parries and confiscated weapons while keeping ammunition and recovery items organized in the attaché case.

Both characters can switch freely between first- and third-person views. Treat that as a comfort and visibility choice, not as a proven combat bonus. The game released on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC; later updates or additional content may change details, so check the version you are playing.

What resource management means in Requiem

Requiem does not give Grace and Leon the same survival problem. The official PlayStation and Nintendo descriptions frame Grace around limited supplies, carrying limits and threat analysis. Her key question is whether to spend resources at all. Leon has a broader direct-combat toolkit: firearms, a hatchet, melee attacks, parries and weapons taken from enemies. His key question is how to combine those tools without emptying the attaché case before the next dangerous area.

That difference changes the safest default:

  • Grace: observe first, identify the immediate objective, and fight only when combat removes a real obstacle or creates a meaningful advantage.
  • Leon: keep several responses available, use the least costly suitable option, and reorganize ammunition and recovery items before a fight becomes chaotic.

Neither approach means avoiding every enemy or firing at everything. It means matching expenditure to the problem in front of you.

Grace: decide whether an encounter deserves your supplies

Start with threat analysis

Grace’s official gameplay description specifically emphasizes analyzing enemies to decide whether to fight or flee. Use that as a three-question opening routine:

  1. Does the threat block progress? If the enemy is not guarding the route, objective or a necessary pickup, bypassing it may preserve more value than a kill.
  2. Is avoidance actually available? Look for space, cover, alternate paths and timing before committing to an attack. Do not assume that every encounter can be safely ignored; verify that you can reach your objective without being cornered.
  3. What will combat cost right now? Consider the ammunition, healing or crafted item you would spend, then compare that cost with the benefit of removing the threat.

This is a decision framework inferred from the systems described by PlayStation and Nintendo, not a promise that every encounter has a no-combat solution. The point is to make the choice deliberately instead of treating an attack as the automatic first move.

Use limited inventory as a priority filter

Grace’s supplies are limited by what she can obtain and carry. Give each carried item a job. A healing item protects a damaged run; ammunition handles a threat that cannot be bypassed; a crafting component is potential flexibility rather than an immediate solution. When space is tight, prefer items that solve the next known problem over items kept only because they might become useful later.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before entering a suspicious room or narrow passage, ask whether your current loadout supports the plan you just made. If you intend to evade, carrying a fighting-oriented item at the expense of recovery may be wasteful. If a confrontation is unavoidable, entering without the means to recover from a mistake can be more dangerous than spending a resource early. The available evidence does not establish Grace’s exact capacity, so use the inventory screen and your own route knowledge rather than relying on a fixed slot count.

Craft from infected blood only when it closes a gap

Grace can use infected enemy blood to craft items, ammunition and injectors capable of taking an enemy down in one hit, according to the official game descriptions. Think of blood as a conversion resource: you are exchanging one potential benefit for another. Crafting is strongest when it answers a specific bottleneck, such as a threat that prevents progress or a shortage that would otherwise force a risky detour.

No official recipe list or cost table is established here, so do not follow claims about a universally best recipe, exact quantities or guaranteed results against particular enemies. Instead:

  • Check what the encounter requires before converting blood.
  • Choose the output that solves the immediate problem rather than crafting automatically after every collection.
  • Keep enough flexibility for the next section when the route ahead is uncertain.
  • Use a one-hit injector as a tactical answer to a dangerous target, not as a reason to fight enemies who could have been avoided.

Because the game does not publish a complete recipe and cost table in the material available for this guide, record the recipes you discover in your own playthrough and judge them by the situations they solve.

Stealth and light can protect ammunition, but plan for exposure

A Windows Central review reports that Grace’s sections involve stealth and light management, that stealth can conserve ammunition, and that corpses can create additional threats. Those are reviewer observations rather than an official promise that every enemy follows the same behavior. They suggest a practical rhythm: use darkness and positioning to reduce unnecessary attention, then keep an exit in mind in case a corpse or another hazard turns a quiet route into an active encounter.

Do not treat stealth as an obligation. If remaining hidden consumes time, traps you in a dead end or leaves you unable to reach the objective, a controlled fight may be the safer expenditure. Likewise, do not assume that shining a light or leaving a body behind is harmless in every room; the review’s corpse warning is a reason to inspect the space and prepare, not a universal route rule.

Classic saves change the value of every mistake

The same Windows Central review reports a Classic save mode that requires Ink Ribbons. If you choose that mode, saving itself becomes part of resource planning. Save before a section where a failed experiment would erase substantial progress, but avoid spending a ribbon reflexively when you have just passed a safe, repeatable stretch. Because this is a reviewer-reported mode detail, confirm the exact save rules and labels in your edition before building a long-term plan around it.

Leon: preserve options while using a larger combat toolkit

Do not reduce every encounter to gunfire

Official descriptions list Leon’s firearms, hatchet, melee attacks and parries, along with the ability to use weapons confiscated from enemies. That combination gives you several ways to respond when ammunition is scarce or an opponent reaches close range. The safest habit is to evaluate the distance and pressure of the encounter before selecting a weapon:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Use a firearm when immediate reach or stopping power matters.
  • Use the hatchet or melee attacks when the situation allows close-range control without exposing you to avoidable damage.
  • Use parries as a timing-based defensive option when you can read the attack, rather than attempting them blindly in a crowd.
  • Check confiscated enemy weapons before discarding or ignoring them; they may provide a temporary answer without consuming your normal ammunition supply.

The sources do not establish damage values, durability rules, an optimal weapon or a universal ammunition threshold. Treat each tool as situational and let the encounter determine the choice.

Organize the attaché case before pressure starts

Leon’s ammunition and recovery items are organized in an attaché case, and weapons can receive customizable parts. Use the case as a planning screen, not merely storage. Group the items you expect to reach quickly, confirm that recovery is available, and leave enough room to collect a newly found weapon or part when exploration offers one.

Before crossing a point that looks likely to trigger combat, pause to answer three questions:

  1. Which weapon handles the most likely range?
  2. What is my fallback if that weapon runs dry or the enemy closes distance?
  3. Where is my recovery item, and can I reach it without opening menus in the middle of pressure?

Weapon customization is another way to spend resources for flexibility. The available descriptions confirm that parts can be customized, but they do not establish an upgrade order or prove that one configuration is best. Choose a part because it addresses a problem you have actually encountered—handling, reach, reliability or another visible limitation—rather than installing upgrades simply because a slot is available.

Use enemy weapons as temporary solutions

Leon’s ability to use confiscated enemy weapons changes the value of an encounter. A weapon taken from an opponent can let you handle a dangerous room while preserving your regular ammunition for a later section. Inspect what you have, determine how long you expect to need it, and avoid assuming that a confiscated weapon should replace your primary loadout permanently. The official descriptions do not specify pickup duration, capacity or damage, so make the decision from the weapon’s behavior in your game.

Choosing first- or third-person view

Both Grace and Leon can be played in first- or third-person perspective, and Capcom says players can switch freely during gameplay. The official PlayStation page and Capcom’s overview present this as an available choice, not as a documented damage, stealth or survival modifier.

Choice What the sources establish How to use it
First person Available to both protagonists; freely switchable. Use it when the closer viewpoint makes aiming or examining a threat clearer for you.
Third person Available to both protagonists; freely switchable. Use it when the wider character view helps you read space, positioning or an escape route.

Switch when the current view obscures the information you need. Do not spend time searching for a universally superior perspective; comparative evidence for a blanket advantage is not established.

A practical encounter loop

The following loop works as a system-level checklist without assuming a particular route or enemy weakness:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Pause at the threshold. Check health, ammunition, crafting materials and available space before entering.
  2. Read the room. Identify the objective, exits, cover, narrow points and anything that could turn a quiet approach into a fight.
  3. Classify the threat. Decide whether it blocks progress, can be bypassed, or must be controlled immediately.
  4. Select the lowest-cost reliable response. For Grace, that may be evasion or a targeted crafted item. For Leon, it may be melee, a parry, a confiscated weapon or a firearm.
  5. Keep a recovery plan. Know where healing is and which fallback tool you will use if the first response fails.
  6. Reassess after the encounter. Reorganize the case or inventory, collect useful materials and note what the room taught you about the next threat.

This loop prevents two common errors: spending rare resources before you know what the encounter requires, and entering a fight with no plan for the first unexpected failure.

Common mistakes and corrections

Fighting because an enemy is visible

Correction: Visibility is not the same as necessity. Grace’s design explicitly asks you to analyze whether to fight or flee. Confirm that the enemy blocks your goal before paying the combat cost.

Crafting immediately after collecting blood

Correction: Keep blood unconverted until you know which shortage matters. The game confirms the categories of craftable outputs, but not a recipe hierarchy that makes automatic crafting optimal.

Saving every Leon problem for a firearm

Correction: Check the hatchet, melee, parry and confiscated weapons first when the situation permits. Preserve ammunition for moments where reach or stopping power is genuinely necessary.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Following a fixed upgrade order

Correction: No authoritative upgrade path is established. Customize parts in response to a limitation you have observed, and keep the rest of the case flexible.

Assuming perspective changes the rules

Correction: Perspective is freely switchable for both characters. Select the view that gives you the clearest information and the most comfortable control.

What is confirmed, and what remains edition-dependent

The official PlayStation and Nintendo descriptions confirm Grace’s limited supplies, enemy analysis and infected-blood crafting, as well as Leon’s firearms, hatchet, melee, parries, confiscated weapons, attaché-case organization and customizable weapon parts. They also confirm first- and third-person play for both characters. The Windows Central review adds observations about Grace’s stealth, light, limited inventory, corpse threats and Classic saves with Ink Ribbons.

The available material does not establish exact inventory capacities, recipes or crafting costs, enemy-specific weaknesses, damage thresholds, difficulty scaling, route-by-route solutions or a best upgrade order. Those details can vary by edition or change through post-launch support. Use the system guidance above, then verify any precise mechanic in the in-game menus and the update version you are playing.
