Resident Evil is moving from the original Switch’s cloud-streaming model to native Nintendo Switch 2 releases. Capcom’s first wave—Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil Requiem—launched on February 27, 2026. On October 16, 2026, Capcom’s Resident Evil Portal listed native Switch 2 editions of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4.
What “native” means for Resident Evil on Switch 2
A native Switch 2 game runs locally on the console rather than streaming gameplay from a remote server. That removes the internet connection requirement and latency that accompany cloud versions, while allowing the game to use Switch 2 hardware directly. The official announcements establish the native editions and their release timing, but they do not provide a complete, independently measured comparison of resolution, frame rate or visual settings across platforms.
This is a change from the way several modern Resident Evil games reached the original Nintendo Switch. A Switch 2 edition is a separate native release, not merely the older cloud-delivery version running unchanged.

The first three Switch 2 releases
Resident Evil 7 biohazard
Resident Evil 7 biohazard is part of the February 27, 2026 native launch wave. If you previously saw it described as a cloud game on the original Switch, look specifically for the Switch 2 edition when purchasing; the official announcement identifies this release as native.
Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil Village also received a native Switch 2 edition on February 27, 2026. The announcement confirms the platform and date, but does not establish a full technical specification or whether every previously sold add-on is included in a particular package.

Resident Evil Requiem
Capcom describes Resident Evil Requiem as “the ninth main installment in the series.” Its release statement says it would also launch on Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo lists the game as a Switch 2 title with a Deluxe Edition. That makes Requiem the clearest starting point for someone who wants the newest mainline entry in a native format, although newcomers may prefer an earlier game’s standalone story and setting.
Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 on Switch 2
Capcom’s Resident Evil Portal lists Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 for Switch 2 on October 16, 2026. A TechRadar review dated October 14, 2026 also confirms the Switch 2 edition release for Resident Evil 2. The available announcements identify the games and timing, but do not state a single shared resolution, frame-rate target, graphics mode, save-transfer policy or bundle structure for all three.

Do not assume that a Switch 2 listing automatically includes the original Switch cloud purchase, a remake’s downloadable content or a season pass. Confirm the exact product page and included content for your region.
Which Switch 2 Resident Evil should you buy first?
- Choose Resident Evil Requiem if you want the latest mainline chapter and a current Switch 2 release. Nintendo’s Deluxe Edition is available, so compare its contents with the standard edition before checkout.
- Choose Resident Evil 7 biohazard if you want to begin with the game that introduced the modern first-person direction; buy the native Switch 2 listing rather than an older cloud listing.
- Choose Resident Evil Village if you want to continue after 7 and prefer its broader action-horror structure.
- Choose Resident Evil 2, 3 or 4 if you specifically want those remake-era campaigns and can buy the Switch 2 editions listed on October 16, 2026.
There is no official performance table yet that supports declaring one of these versions the fastest or sharpest. Base your first purchase on the campaign you want, the edition’s confirmed contents and whether the listing is explicitly for Switch 2.

What to check before purchasing
- Open the Nintendo eShop or a retailer serving your country and verify that the product is labeled for Nintendo Switch 2.
- Check whether you are buying a physical card, a download code or a digital license, and note any required storage space shown on the listing.
- For Resident Evil Requiem, compare the standard and Deluxe Edition descriptions; the official listing confirms the Deluxe Edition but the supplied release information does not enumerate its contents.
- Confirm regional price, stock and any upgrade or ownership requirements. None of those commercial terms is established by the release announcements.
What is still unknown
Capcom and Nintendo have confirmed availability and dates, not a complete cross-platform technical audit. Public information supplied for these releases does not establish consistent frame-rate numbers, output resolutions, graphics presets, loading-time measurements, cartridge capacity, save compatibility or DLC inclusion across all six games. Those details should be treated as title- and edition-specific until each product page or a measured technical analysis states them.
