PS5 is the best-looking version of Resident Evil 4 Remake. Switch 2 is the most appealing console option for handheld play and targets 60 frames per second, but its resolution and effects are reduced and demanding scenes can fall into the 50s or 40s. Steam Deck is the most flexible version: a tested configuration prioritizes a consistent 30 FPS, while PC settings let you trade image quality for performance.

Why PS5 sets the visual baseline
Capcom built the remake on RE ENGINE and announced the PS5 and PC versions in 2022 for release on March 24, 2023. In this comparison, PS5 is the reference point for image quality because the Switch 2 analyses document several reductions from that presentation: lower internal resolution, missing screen-space reflections, less foliage, more aggressive level-of-detail changes, and compromises to lighting and materials.

Those differences matter most in reflective surfaces, foliage-heavy locations, shadowed interiors and scenes with several light sources. PS5 therefore remains the right choice if your priority is the clearest image and the fullest lighting and environmental effects.

What cannot be claimed about PS5 performance
A single controlled, same-scene frame-time chart for PS5, Switch 2 and Steam Deck is not available in the cited material. Do not treat PS5 as having a measured frame-rate advantage here, and do not assign it an exact FPS figure from this comparison.

Switch 2: portable play with a 60-FPS target
Resolution and visual compromises
Digital Foundry’s analysis, as summarized by Nintendo Everything, reports approximately 520p internal resolution in docked mode and 360p in handheld mode. The analysis also identifies no screen-space reflections, reduced local-light shadowing, more aggressive level-of-detail scaling, sparser foliage and texture downgrades in some scenes. Lighting and material quality are consequently below the PS5 presentation, especially when the camera is close to surfaces or when scenes contain many objects.
How close it gets to 60 FPS
A separate report on the same analysis says the port targets 60 FPS and commonly reaches that target. Performance falls into the 50s in some areas and into the 40s during dense combat, while cutscenes can run at a variable rate. The accurate description is therefore “60-FPS target with situational dips,” not “locked 60 FPS.”

The published 30-FPS configuration
SteamDeckHQ marked the game Deck Verified in an April 6, 2023 test. Its profile used 1152×720 output, FSR 2 Quality, medium mesh and shadow settings, ambient occlusion, screen-space reflections and a 30-FPS cap. That profile is useful as a stability-oriented starting point rather than evidence that every Deck configuration will perform identically.

Why Capcom’s PC targets do not promise Deck performance
Capcom’s official PC support specification lists 1080p at 45 FPS for performance-oriented settings and 1080p at 60 FPS for quality-oriented settings on suitable PC hardware, with possible drops in demanding scenes. Those figures describe supported PC configurations, not a Steam Deck guarantee. Deck owners should expect to adjust resolution scaling, FSR quality, shadows, mesh detail and frame-rate caps to match their preferred balance.
What Deck adds
Unlike the console releases, Steam Deck exposes PC graphics controls and supports the wider Steam ecosystem, including desktop tools and mods where compatible. That flexibility is its main advantage; the cited tested profile deliberately chooses a stable 30 FPS instead of matching console-style image quality or promising 60 FPS.

Which version should you buy?
Choose PS5 when visuals come first
- Best choice for maximum image clarity, lighting, reflections, foliage and material quality.
- Most suitable for a TV-based playthrough where handheld access is not important.
Choose Switch 2 when handheld console play comes first
- Best fit for native handheld play and a console profile aimed at 60 FPS.
- Accept approximately 520p internal resolution docked, 360p handheld, reduced effects and dips below 60 FPS in demanding scenes.
Choose Steam Deck when control and tuning matter
- Best for PC controls, adjustable settings, mods and access to an existing Steam library.
- Use a 30-FPS-oriented profile if consistency matters more than resolution; do not assume Capcom’s generic 1080p/45 or 1080p/60 PC targets will hold on Deck.
Switch 2 release timing and editions
Capcom announced the digital Switch 2 release for October 16, 2026. Capcom France lists boxed versions, including Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition, for January 29, 2027. Retailer inventory, pricing and regional availability are separate questions and are not established by those announcements.
