In the Resident Evil 4 remake’s Chapter 8 Bindery, place the stones as follows: left—orange helmet in a hexagon; top—orange shield in a square; right—blue sword in a square; bottom—blue armor in a hexagon. Match the icon and border shape, not just the color. The door opens immediately when all four faces are correct.
Where the Lithographic Stone puzzle appears
You reach this puzzle in the Bindery during Chapter 8, after meeting Ada and while progressing toward the Castle Battlements. A wall contains four slots arranged as left, top, right and bottom positions. One stone can already be in the wall, while the other three must be recovered from the Bindery.

The puzzle blocks the route forward, but it has one final arrangement. Your difficulty setting or playthrough can change where loose stones appear, so use the symbols on the wall as the reliable guide rather than expecting every item to be in the same place.

Each Lithographic Stone has two faces. A piece is correct only when the visible face has the required icon and the required border. Color helps identify the face, but color by itself is not sufficient: an icon in the wrong border shape will not trigger the mechanism.

Step-by-step solution
- Enter the Bindery. Find the wall with four Lithographic Stone slots and inspect the symbols around the openings.
- Sweep the entire room for loose stones. Check the bookshelf, glass case, area near the fireplace, cupboard and the cloth-covered area at the rear of the room. The exact pickup locations can vary, so do not assume a stone is missing because it is not in one commonly pictured spot.
- Place a stone in a slot. If the displayed face does not match the required icon and border for that position, rotate or flip the piece to its opposite face before trying another slot.
- Complete the four positions. Put the orange helmet with the hexagonal border on the left; the orange shield with the square border at the top; the blue sword with the square border on the right; and the blue armor with the hexagonal border at the bottom.
- Confirm the mechanism. When every face matches, the wall door opens and the path through Chapter 8 becomes available again.
How to identify a correct face
Check the icon
The four required icons are helmet, shield, sword and armor. The icon must correspond to the wall position; simply finding the correct color does not identify the right piece.
Check the border
Two faces may share a color or a similar symbol but use different outlines. Verify whether the symbol is enclosed by a square or a hexagon before leaving the piece in place.

Use the other face
If a stone appears to be the right one but refuses to fit the pattern, flip it. Each stone can present a different icon-and-border combination on its reverse face.

- Bookshelf
- Glass case
- Near the fireplace
- Cupboard
- Cloth-covered area at the back of the Bindery
Search containers and furnishings from multiple angles. Reported placements are not identical in every playthrough or difficulty, so the checklist is more dependable than a single fixed-room diagram.

Troubleshooting the Bindery door
A stone looks right but the puzzle will not solve
Rotate it to show the opposite face, then compare both the icon and border with the table. A matching helmet, shield, sword or armor symbol in the wrong shape is still incorrect.
One of the three loose stones is nowhere to be found
Return to every listed location and inspect the glass case, cupboard, shelf and rear cloth area again. Because placement can vary, a guide image from another run may not match your room.

The door remains closed after arranging the stones
Check the wall position as well as the face: orange helmet belongs left, orange shield top, blue sword right and blue armor bottom. Once all four attributes match, the door should open without a separate switch or item.

The useful variables are the stone’s symbol, its border shape and the wall position. Guides may show different pickup locations, but they do not establish a second valid final arrangement. Treat location differences as search guidance, not as alternate puzzle answers.
