To reply to a video comment in YouTube Studio, open Community, find the comment under Published (on desktop) or View all (in the mobile app), then select Reply, write your response, and submit it.
Reply to a video comment on a computer
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Community in the left menu.
- Open Published to see public comments. If you need to narrow the list, use the filter bar; desktop options include search, questions, and response status.
- Select REPLY beneath the comment, type your response, and submit it. YouTube’s computer instructions describe search as a way to find comments to moderate or engage with.
Reply in the YouTube Studio mobile app
- Open the YouTube Studio app and select Community from the bottom menu.
- Select View all. Published comments are shown by default.
- Tap Reply on the comment, write your response, and submit it.
The mobile response-status filter includes Unresponded, Responded, and New replies to your response. See YouTube’s Studio app comment instructions.
Find comments that need attention
Use response-status filters to distinguish comments you have not answered from those already answered. On desktop, the filter bar also offers search and question filters; in the mobile app, select the relevant response status. These options help locate comments without scrolling through the entire list.

A comment that is not visible under Published may be in Held. YouTube’s held-comment guidance says automatically held comments identified as likely spam can remain in the combined Held for review tab for up to 60 days. From that area, you can approve or remove a comment, report it, or hide the user. Held comments have a review workflow separate from replying to public comments.

Reply to a comment on a Community post
For a comment on one of your posts, use the post’s comments rather than the video-comment list:
- Sign in to Studio and select Content.
- Open Posts, then open the post’s comments.
- Select Reply beneath the comment, write your response, and select Reply to submit it. YouTube documents this route in its Community post instructions.
When comment settings or controls are unavailable
YouTube says comment settings cannot be changed when a channel or video is designated made for kids, when a video is private, or when the account is a supervised experience. Also, default comment settings affect new videos and posts, not existing ones. See YouTube’s comment settings guidance.

Those documented restrictions concern changing comment settings; they do not establish every possible reason a reply control might be unavailable. If the comment is not in Published, check Held first, then confirm the content and account context.
