Repairo is an open-source project for detecting API contract changes and preparing code repairs for review. Its current README describes scanning OpenAPI specifications, mapping changes to affected call sites, validating targeted edits, and opening a pull request; it does not describe an automatic merge. Those repository-documented capabilities are more specific than the original launch post’s broader description of request-time API repair.
What Repairo is—and what the launch post says
A DEV Community post introduces Repairo as a free, open-source tool intended to detect and repair API issues. The author frames the problem as schema changes, breaking updates, and mismatched payloads causing requests to fail. That is the author’s description of the problem, not a measured claim about how often such failures happen. Read the launch post on DEV Community.
The post describes intercepting failing requests, analyzing schema divergence, and applying corrections. The project README presents a different, more concrete workflow: detect changes in OpenAPI specifications and repair affected consumer code. Treat these as two descriptions, not as proof that the README documents the same request-time behavior. The project’s stated tagline is, “Dependabot bumps the package. Repairo fixes the call sites that break.” That is project positioning, not an independent comparison or test.

- Compare API specifications. Repairo’s README says it can watch vendor OpenAPI documents or use pinned specification files to detect structural changes.
- Map changes to code. It then identifies consumer call sites that may be affected by a change.
- Prepare targeted edits. Where the mapping is clear, the README says it uses deterministic AST or token transformations. Ambiguous enum mappings can optionally use an agent-assisted feature, which the README says is off by default.
- Validate and request review. The documented flow validates the proposed changes and prepares a pull request for a person to review. The README says Repairo does not auto-merge.
The project lists watch support for Stripe, OpenAI, Anthropic, Supabase, Gemini, and GitHub REST, as well as user-provided OpenAPI files. These are repository claims; they do not independently verify every integration in production. See the Repairo repository and its current README.
How to try the CLI
The README’s sample scan command is:
npx repairo-cli scan ./src --vendors stripe,openai,supabase
The repository documents Node.js 22 or newer for global installation. It also describes a GitHub Actions workflow and a hosted beta. A GitHub token is needed when creating pull requests. Because these details come from live project documentation, check the README for current setup steps and availability before adopting them.
Languages, execution, and data handling
The README identifies TypeScript and JavaScript as the project’s strongest paths. It says Python and Go support exists, but may have rough edges with untyped or dynamic code. Teams using those languages should review generated changes carefully rather than assume equivalent coverage.
Rank #2
The project says the CLI runs locally and computes repairs in process. It describes the hosted and GitHub App path as limited to configured OAuth scopes and webhooks. If optional agent resolution is enabled, the README says minimal structured context is sent. Confirm the current implementation and data-handling terms before enabling hosted features or agent assistance.

- Use it as a proposed repair, not an unattended fix. Its documented endpoint is a reviewable pull request, so retain normal code review and CI checks.
- Check whether your API contracts are available as OpenAPI documents. The documented change-detection workflow is grounded in those specifications.
- Inspect the mapping and validation for your codebase. The README distinguishes deterministic edits for clear mappings from optional agent assistance for ambiguous enum cases.
- Match expectations to your language. The project describes JavaScript and TypeScript as its strongest paths and cautions about rougher edges in Python and Go.
- Separate project claims from evidence of results. The launch post and README document intended behavior, but the reviewed material provides no independent customer study, verified outcome metric, or comparative test establishing that Repairo prevents production failures.
The repository displays an Apache-2.0 license. Its documentation also cautions that the project is early; stars or downloads should not be read as a customer count.
