To change a TV’s name, first identify which name you mean: the TV’s device identity, an HDMI or other input label, or a separate streaming device’s name. The settings are different, and changing one name does not necessarily update every app, casting screen, or network list. Use the platform-specific steps below.
Before you start: identify the name you want to change
- TV device name: The identity assigned to the television itself. The available menu path depends on the TV model or software version.
- Input label: The name shown for a connected device in the TV’s input list. This changes how the input is labeled in the TV interface, not necessarily the TV’s identity elsewhere.
- Streaming-device name: A name for a separate player or Roku TV managed through a device account or app.
If your goal is to find a particular screen or device in a discovery list, check where that list gets its name. A setting may affect one place without changing names in other services.
Change the device name on a Samsung TV
Samsung’s menu path varies by model generation. Follow the route that matches your TV, then look for Device Name or Edit Name. Samsung cautions that menus can vary by model and software version in its India support guide.

- 2025 models: Settings > All Settings > Support > About TV > Edit Name.
- 2022–2024 models: Settings > All Settings > Connections > Device Name.
- 2017–2021 models: Settings > General > System Manager > Device Name > User Input.
- 2016 models: Settings > Network > Device Name.
- 2014–2015 models: Menu > Network > Device Name.
The older-generation paths are also listed in Samsung Australia’s support guidance. If the labels do not match your screen, consult the manual or support page for your exact model rather than selecting an unrelated naming option.

Change the device name on a Sony Android TV or Google TV
Sony describes this name as one that usually appears on the TV’s Wi-Fi Direct settings screen. It can help distinguish multiple Sony TVs linked to a phone or computer; it does not guarantee that third-party apps will show the same name. The menu depends on the Android version, according to Sony Support.
- Open Settings.
- On Android 9 or later, choose System or Device Preferences > About > Device Name > Change.
- On Android 8 or earlier, choose About > Device Name > Change.
- Select a preset name or choose the option to enter a custom name, then confirm it.
Rename an input label on an LG TV
These LG instructions rename the label for an external device connected to the TV; they are not a general procedure for changing the TV’s own network identity. To update the label shown under Inputs, follow LG’s external-device instructions:
