To remove the Samsung Wallet tab that appears at the bottom of a Galaxy screen, open Samsung Wallet and go to Menu > Settings > Quick access > Swipe up gesture. Turn off Home screen; disable Lock screen and Screen off there as well if you do not want the shortcut available in those locations. The Wallet app remains installed and can still be opened from its app icon.

What the Samsung Wallet “tab” actually is

The small handle or tab at the bottom of a Galaxy display is part of Samsung Wallet’s Quick access feature. When the gesture is enabled for a particular screen, swiping up from the bottom opens Wallet’s Quick access panel. It is not a separate app, widget, or physical element that needs to be removed.

Samsung provides separate switches for three locations: the Home screen, the Lock screen, and the screen while the phone display is off. This means the handle can disappear from one location while remaining available in another. For example, turning off Home screen stops the most common bottom-edge prompt without changing a shortcut you still use from the Lock screen.

The current Samsung instructions are documented in Samsung’s Galaxy phone support guide. Samsung’s labels can change slightly with software updates, so the wording on your phone may not be identical even though the setting serves the same purpose.

Remove the tab from the Home screen

  1. Open Samsung Wallet. Launch it from the Wallet app icon in your app drawer or on a Home-screen page.
  2. Open the Wallet menu. Tap Menu, then tap the Settings gear.
  3. Open Quick access controls. Tap Quick access, followed by Swipe up gesture.
  4. Disable the Home-screen gesture. Turn off Home screen. This is the switch that controls the tab and swipe-up action on the regular Home screen.
  5. Test the result. Return to the Home screen and swipe up from the bottom edge. The Wallet Quick access panel should no longer open from that screen.

The change affects the gesture, not your Wallet account, payment cards, passes, or the Wallet application itself. You do not need to uninstall Wallet to remove this tab.

Disable the shortcut on other screens

Home screen, Lock screen, and Screen off are independent controls. Choose only the locations where you want the gesture unavailable.

Setting What it controls When to turn it off
Home screen The swipe-up Wallet tab while you are using the unlocked Home screen Turn this off to solve the usual “Samsung Wallet at the bottom of my home screen” complaint.
Lock screen The swipe-up Wallet shortcut shown before the phone is unlocked Turn this off if you do not want Wallet appearing while the phone is locked.
Screen off The gesture behavior when the display is otherwise off Turn this off if an edge swipe while the screen is off can launch Quick access on your device.

To remove every Quick access entry point, switch off all three options. If you only dislike the visible tab on the Home screen but still want quick payment access from the Lock screen, leave the other switches enabled.

What changes after you disable Quick access

Wallet is still available

Disabling the swipe shortcuts does not uninstall Samsung Wallet or delete anything stored in it. Samsung’s Samsung Wallet FAQ explains that Wallet can still be opened through its app icon after Quick access shortcuts are disabled. Use that icon whenever you need cards, passes, tickets, or other Wallet features.

The handle and the gesture are related

Samsung also documents a handle-transparency control. Transparency changes how visible the handle is; it is a display adjustment, not the per-screen switch that disables the swipe-up action. If your goal is to stop Wallet from opening accidentally, turn off the relevant screen switch rather than relying only on transparency.

Only selected screen locations are affected

Turning off Home screen does not automatically turn off Lock screen or Screen off. Check each switch deliberately so the result matches how you use the phone.

Hide the handle without removing access

If you want to keep the swipe gesture but make the visual handle less noticeable, use the handle-transparency slider in the same Quick access settings area. A more transparent handle can reduce visual clutter, but it does not represent a complete shutdown of Quick access. The supported controls for preventing Wallet from launching in a location are the Home screen, Lock screen, and Screen off switches.

This distinction is useful when two people describe different solutions: one may have reduced the handle’s visibility, while the other disabled the gesture entirely. Decide whether you want a cosmetic change or a functional one before changing the setting.

Why the tab may still appear

A second screen switch is still enabled

If the handle disappears from the Home screen but remains visible on the Lock screen, that is expected when only Home screen was disabled. Reopen Menu > Settings > Quick access > Swipe up gesture and review the remaining switches. Disable Lock screen and Screen off if you want no Wallet swipe shortcut in those places.

The setting was changed in a different Wallet installation

Make sure you opened the Samsung Wallet application that is active on the phone and changed its own Quick access settings. The control is inside Wallet, not in a general Android gesture menu.

Your software uses different wording

Samsung updates its phone and Wallet software, and labels can vary by model, software version, or region. The cited support instructions establish the Quick access and Swipe up gesture path, but they do not provide one universal alternate path for every Galaxy model. If a label or switch is missing, check for available updates for Samsung Wallet and the phone software, then look again in Wallet’s settings for Quick access or swipe-up controls.

The gesture was tested from the wrong location

Each switch is location-specific. Test from the exact screen you changed: use the unlocked Home screen for Home screen, the Lock screen for Lock screen, and the display-off state for Screen off. A successful test in one location does not prove that the other two are disabled.

A practical decision guide

  • You only see the tab while using the phone normally: disable Home screen.
  • You see it before unlocking: disable Lock screen.
  • You want no Wallet swipe shortcut anywhere: disable all three switches.
  • You want the shortcut but dislike the visual handle: adjust handle transparency instead of disabling the gesture.
  • You want Wallet gone completely: this setting does not uninstall it; use the phone’s normal app-management options separately, recognizing that removing an app is a different action from disabling Quick access.

Samsung Pay versus Samsung Wallet terminology

Older questions often call the feature “Samsung Pay,” including descriptions such as “remove Samsung Pay from the bottom of the home screen.” Samsung Wallet is the current name used for the app and its Quick access controls. If an older forum post uses Samsung Pay terminology, look for the equivalent Wallet menu rather than searching for a separate Samsung Pay tab.

How to confirm the change safely

  1. After changing a switch, return to the target screen instead of judging from inside the Wallet app.
  2. Perform the same bottom-edge swipe that previously opened Quick access.
  3. If Wallet no longer opens there, the corresponding shortcut is disabled.
  4. Repeat on the Lock screen and with the display off only if you also changed those controls.
  5. Open Wallet from its app icon to verify that the application itself remains available.

These checks distinguish a disabled gesture from an unavailable Wallet app. They also prevent a common mistake: assuming that removing the Home-screen handle has disabled every Wallet entry point.

When you should leave one shortcut enabled

Some users intentionally keep Quick access on the Lock screen because it provides a fast way to reach Wallet without navigating through the Home screen. Others find a bottom-edge swipe too easy to trigger while scrolling or switching apps. Samsung’s separate switches let you choose a compromise: disable Home screen while retaining Lock screen, or disable only the locations where accidental launches occur.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no requirement to choose the same setting for every screen. The appropriate configuration depends on whether convenience or avoiding unintended Wallet launches matters more in each location.

Limits of the setting

The Swipe up gesture controls Samsung Wallet’s Quick access shortcut. It does not remove unrelated bottom-edge gestures supplied by the phone’s navigation system, change another app’s swipe behavior, or alter Wallet content. If a different panel appears after you disable Wallet’s switches, identify which application or system gesture opened it before changing additional settings.

Samsung’s support material does not establish one device-by-device list of interface variations, nor does it promise that every Galaxy model and region exposes identical labels. Use the documented Quick access controls as the reference point and rely on the options actually shown in your installed Wallet version.

Quick checklist

  • Open Samsung Wallet.
  • Tap Menu, then Settings.
  • Choose Quick access and Swipe up gesture.
  • Switch off Home screen to remove the usual Home-screen tab.
  • Switch off Lock screen and Screen off if those shortcuts are also unwanted.
  • Test each affected screen.
  • Use the Wallet app icon when you still need Wallet after disabling Quick access.
