If you only need to reinstall Langflow, replace the application—not the server’s operating system. Reimaging a server is a host-level operation that may erase data, while reinstalling Langflow changes the application. Before reimaging, confirm exactly what your provider will erase, back up Langflow’s database and files outside the affected storage, and verify that you can restore them.
First decide whether you need an application reinstall or a server reimage
These are different operations with different risks. Langflow offers installation routes including Docker and Python packages; its remote-server guide shows a Docker and Compose deployment. Replacing a Langflow package or container does not, by itself, reinstall the server’s operating system. Conversely, a provider’s server reimage is not a Langflow reinstall: it may replace the OS and erase data on affected disks.

If your goal is to repair or update Langflow, follow the relevant application installation or deployment instructions instead of starting with a server reimage. For the Python package installation route, Langflow documents uv pip install langflow --force-reinstall as a way to reinstall the package and dependencies. That command does not reimage a server and does not apply to every installation method.

Confirm what the reimage will erase before you start
The provider, operating system, and storage layout determine what a server reimage affects. Check the provider’s current control-panel warnings and documentation for the exact server and operation. Do not assume that Docker named volumes, bind-mounted directories, attached storage, or a database will survive. A container’s persistent storage is distinct from the host’s disks: preserving data during a container replacement does not guarantee it will survive a server reimage.

- Identify which disk or disks the reimage targets, including the OS disk.
- Check whether attached volumes and snapshots are retained, detached, or deleted—and whether they need to be reattached afterward.
- Locate Langflow’s actual database, configuration, and flow or file data; do not infer their locations from the container image alone.
- Do not proceed until you know how to restore the data if the reimage removes it.
Back up Langflow and record how it is deployed
For a Docker deployment, Langflow’s documented container-upgrade approach relies on persistent volumes outside the replaced container. Data can remain available when the same volumes are preserved and reattached. This describes container replacement, not a server reimage. Before changing the host, place backups somewhere outside any storage the reimage may affect and verify that they can be restored.

- Compose file and environment variables.
- Langflow image tag or digest, plus the image profile in use.
- Volume mounts and the locations of the database, configuration, and user data.
- Domain, reverse-proxy, and TLS configuration.
- Provider credentials and other secrets needed by flows.
Keeping or downloading a container image is not a backup of your flows or database. Before moving to a newer Langflow version or changing image profiles, back up the database, record the image digest and configuration, and test the candidate version using a copy of production data. If a newer version has migrated the database, a rollback requires restoring the pre-upgrade database backup; do not assume an older application can safely use the migrated database.

Reinstall Langflow using the route that fits the server
Langflow’s installation documentation lists Docker, Python package, source, and desktop options. For a remote server, its documented example uses SSH, Docker, Compose, and optionally Caddy as a reverse proxy. The example uses a Hetzner cloud server; its provider-specific steps should not be treated as universal instructions for other hosts.

Langflow’s remote-server guide gives a baseline of a dual-core CPU and at least 2 GB of RAM. Treat that as the guide’s example baseline, not a capacity guarantee for your workload. Follow the current Langflow installation and deployment documentation for your chosen route and version; the documentation labels its current installation and deployment guidance as version 1.12.x, but version and image tags can change.
For Docker, configure the intended persistent storage before starting the service. Official Langflow Docker images set LANGFLOW_AUTO_LOGIN=false. Set LANGFLOW_SUPERUSER_PASSWORD before startup unless you deliberately choose a different authentication configuration. Langflow recommends authentication for shared or public instances. If the server will be publicly accessible, configure HTTPS and verify the hostname and reverse proxy; Langflow’s remote-server guide describes Caddy and recommends enabling HTTPS.

Verify the restored or redeployed instance
After reinstalling or restoring, test the service before treating the migration as complete. Langflow’s image-change guidance calls for smoke tests of core access and flow behavior.

- Sign in and confirm the expected authentication behavior.
- Open existing flows and confirm they load.
- Run a flow and check that it executes as expected.
- Check access to files used by flows.
- Confirm provider credentials still work; secrets may need to be restored or re-entered.
- From outside the server, verify the hostname, HTTPS, and reverse-proxy access if the instance is public.
