There is no reliable winner yet because Xiaomi’s official material does not identify a REDMI Note 17 Pro+. It identifies the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G and a separate REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, but does not say that “Pro+” means “Pro Max.” The verified Pro 5G is positioned for casual gaming, with game-specific limits of up to 60 fps in PUBG and CODM, up to 90 fps in MLBB, and up to 60 fps in LOLM. Its 120Hz panel does not enable 120Hz high-frame-rate gaming. A fair Pro-versus-Pro+ verdict requires the exact second model, regional variant, and comparable sustained-performance testing.
The short answer
If a retailer or video calls a phone “REDMI Note 17 Pro+,” first check the exact model name in the phone’s settings and on Xiaomi’s regional product page. Xiaomi’s official material reviewed for this comparison names REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G and REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G; it does not verify a model called REDMI Note 17 Pro+ or equate that name with Pro Max.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has enough hardware for casual play and supports Xiaomi’s Game Turbo tools and wired or Bluetooth controllers. However, Xiaomi’s UK support FAQ says it “is suitable for casual gaming but may not be optimal for large games.” The same FAQ says 120Hz high-frame-rate gaming is not supported, despite the display being rated up to 120Hz. That distinction matters more than the refresh-rate number printed in a specification sheet.
The possible Pro Max model has a newer-named Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 platform, LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.1 storage and a 10,000mAh typical battery in Xiaomi India’s specification page. Those specifications do not establish game frame rates, thermal behavior or battery endurance. Until Xiaomi confirms that Pro Max is the phone meant by “Pro+,” declaring it the better gaming phone would be speculation.

Why the “Pro+” name must be confirmed
Two official names, not three
Xiaomi’s current official material provides two distinct identities:
| Phone name found in official material | Evidence and market | What is known for gaming |
|---|---|---|
| REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G | Xiaomi Global product information, India specifications and a UK support FAQ | Casual-gaming guidance, title-specific maximum frame rates, Game Turbo and controller support |
| REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G | Xiaomi India specification page | Hardware specifications are listed, but no equivalent game-by-game frame-rate table is established |
| “REDMI Note 17 Pro+” | No matching official model name is established in the material available for this comparison | Cannot be scored until the exact product and market are identified |
Names can vary by country, retailer inventory system or translation, but a family label alone is not enough to match processors, memory, software limits or cooling. A phone sold as “Pro+” could be a retailer’s shorthand, an unreleased regional name or a mistaken reference to Pro Max. The model number in Settings > About phone, the box label and the official regional specification page should agree before you compare performance.
What to record before comparing
- The complete marketing name, including “5G,” “Max” and the regional market.
- The processor designation shown on the official page, not only the product-family name.
- Physical RAM and storage capacity, because virtual memory does not replace physical RAM and storage types differ between configurations.
- The games you actually play and the frame-rate options those games expose on that exact software build.
- Whether a published result is a manufacturer limit, a short benchmark or a sustained session with temperatures and frame-time data.
REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G: the verified gaming hardware
Processor, display and touch response
Xiaomi lists a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 platform for the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G. Its display is a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with refresh up to 120Hz. Xiaomi also specifies 240Hz touch sampling and an instantaneous 3200Hz touch-sampling mode. The 3200Hz figure is conditional: Xiaomi describes it as available in gaming scenarios or when Game Turbo is activated, depending on the regional specification page.
Touch-sampling rate describes how often the phone can read touch input; it is not a frame-rate guarantee. A game can remain capped at 60 or 90 fps even when the panel refreshes at 120Hz and the touch system reports a much higher instantaneous rate. For competitive play, the practical questions are whether the title offers a high-frame-rate mode, whether frame pacing remains stable and whether touch latency stays consistent after the phone heats up.
Memory, storage and battery vary by region
Xiaomi India’s specifications list an Adreno GPU, LPDDR4X memory and several storage arrangements for the Pro 5G. The 256GB and 512GB configurations use UFS 3.1, while the 128GB configuration uses UFS 2.2. The same India-market page lists a 9000mAh typical battery and 67W charging.

These are India-market details, not universal specifications for every country. A different region may sell different memory, storage or battery configurations. Confirm the exact capacity before assuming that a phone has UFS 3.1 or a 9000mAh cell. Storage type can affect installation and loading times, but it does not by itself prove higher in-game frame rates.
Gaming software and accessories
Xiaomi’s UK FAQ says the Pro 5G supports Game Turbo, which prioritizes CPU and GPU performance and reduces background activity. The FAQ also says the phone does not support Wild Boost. Game Turbo can help reserve resources for a game, but it cannot turn a title that is capped at 60 fps into a 120-fps title.
The same FAQ documents controller connections through Bluetooth HID and USB-C OTG. A compatible Bluetooth gamepad can be paired through Android’s Bluetooth settings; a wired controller can be connected with an appropriate USB-C OTG arrangement. Compatibility, button mapping and power use can differ between controllers, so Xiaomi’s support statement should be read as connection support rather than a guarantee that every game accepts a controller.
What Xiaomi actually says about game performance
Manufacturer guidance, not an independent benchmark
Xiaomi’s UK support FAQ describes the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G as suitable for casual gaming but potentially not optimal for large games. This is manufacturer support guidance, not an independent laboratory test. It does not specify a sustained temperature, average frame rate, one-percent-low frame rate or play-session length.
The FAQ gives maximum figures for several named games:

| Game | Xiaomi-listed maximum for REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| PUBG | Up to 60 fps | A title-specific ceiling stated by Xiaomi; it is not a promise that every scene holds 60 fps |
| Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM) | Up to 60 fps | Actual output depends on the selected graphics and frame-rate settings |
| Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) | Up to 90 fps | The highest listed value is 90 fps, not 120 fps |
| League of Legends: Wild Rift (LOLM) | Up to 60 fps | The game-specific maximum is lower than the panel’s 120Hz refresh rate |
Xiaomi cautions that real frame rates vary with application optimization, graphics settings and background processes. A maximum in a support table is therefore best treated as a supported mode under suitable conditions, not as a guaranteed result during every match.
Why 120Hz does not mean 120 fps
A 120Hz screen can redraw up to 120 times per second when the software supplies matching frames. The Pro 5G’s support FAQ explicitly says that 120Hz high-frame-rate gaming is not supported. The panel specification remains useful for menus, scrolling and games that offer an intermediate high-refresh mode, but it does not override the game-specific limits above.
Touch sampling and display refresh are also separate from rendering performance. The 240Hz and conditional 3200Hz touch figures describe input sensing; the Snapdragon platform and game software determine how quickly frames are rendered. Reading those numbers as interchangeable is a common reason buyers expect 120-fps gameplay and then see a 60-fps cap.
REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G: the possible “Pro+” reference
What the official specification page establishes
Xiaomi India names a separate REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G. Its listed hardware includes a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 platform, up to 12GB of physical LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, a 6.83-inch 1.5K display with refresh up to 120Hz and a 10,000mAh typical battery.
| Specification | REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G listing | Gaming significance |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 | A newer product designation than the Pro 5G’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, but the name alone does not establish frame rates |
| Physical memory | Up to 12GB LPDDR5X | More memory bandwidth and capacity may help multitasking, but no direct game result is supplied |
| Storage | UFS 4.1 | Can influence loading and installation behavior; it is not a substitute for GPU testing |
| Display | 6.83-inch 1.5K, up to 120Hz | Same headline refresh ceiling as the Pro 5G; game support still has to be checked |
| Battery | 10,000mAh typical | Higher capacity on paper, but gaming endurance requires measured power and thermal results |
The page does not, by itself, say that this phone is called Pro+ in another market. It also does not provide a matching PUBG, CODM, MLBB or LOLM frame-rate table in the material used here. Consequently, the Pro Max specifications can describe a possible upgrade path but cannot support a definitive gaming ranking against the Pro 5G.

The table shows why a simple “higher number wins” conclusion is unsafe. The Pro Max listing has stronger-looking memory and storage specifications, but the Pro 5G is the only one with published game-specific limits and explicit gaming guidance. Neither set of specifications supplies sustained frame-time measurements.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare the phones once the second model is confirmed
1. Match the exact market and configuration
- Open Settings > About phone and record the complete model name and model number.
- Match that identity to Xiaomi’s official page for the country where the phone will be purchased.
- Record physical RAM, storage capacity and storage type. Do not treat “extended RAM” as equivalent to installed LPDDR memory.
- Check whether the quoted battery capacity is typical or rated and whether charging figures are specified for that region.
2. Check support for your actual games
Open each game’s graphics and frame-rate menu after installing it on the intended phone. Look for the highest selectable frame-rate mode, then note which graphics presets disable that mode. A 120Hz display is relevant only if the game and device software expose a matching mode. The Pro 5G’s published limits demonstrate how different titles can be capped at 60 or 90 fps on the same handset.
3. Test sustained performance, not only the first match
A short benchmark can hide heat-related throttling. For a meaningful comparison, use the same game version, graphics preset, brightness, network type and controller arrangement on both phones. Play for a repeatable period long enough for temperatures to stabilize, then record average frame rate, frame-time consistency and low-percentile results. Also record surface temperature and battery percentage before and after the session. No comparable independent sustained-performance test for this exact Pro-versus-Pro+ pairing is established here.
4. Separate loading speed from rendering speed
UFS 4.1 or UFS 3.1 can affect app installation and level loading, while GPU capability, game optimization and thermal limits affect rendered frames. A faster storage specification should not be used as evidence that a game will run at a higher frame rate. Likewise, extra RAM can help keep apps resident but cannot remove a title’s built-in frame cap.

5. Evaluate comfort and input
Both listed phones use a large 6.83-inch display, so hand size, weight and grip matter during long sessions. Check brightness behavior, touch consistency and whether your preferred controller works over Bluetooth HID or USB-C OTG. The Pro 5G’s support for those connection methods is documented; equivalent support for the possible Pro+ device must be verified from its own manual or support page.

Getting the best gaming experience from the Pro 5G
Use Game Turbo deliberately
Open Xiaomi’s Game Turbo panel from the phone’s gaming tools; the exact location and label can vary by regional software version. Add the game, enable the performance controls you need and close unnecessary background activity. Game Turbo is intended to prioritize CPU and GPU resources, but it does not change the title-specific limits in Xiaomi’s FAQ. If a game becomes unstable after an aggressive performance setting, return to the default profile and compare frame pacing again.
Choose a realistic frame-rate target
For PUBG and CODM, begin with the highest mode Xiaomi lists—up to 60 fps—and then select the graphics preset that keeps frame delivery stable. MLBB is listed up to 90 fps, so a 90Hz-or-higher refresh setting can be useful when that mode is actually available in the game. LOLM is listed up to 60 fps. Do not select a lower graphics quality solely to chase 120 fps when the phone’s support information says 120Hz high-frame-rate gaming is unavailable.
Connect a controller when touch controls are the limitation
For Bluetooth, put the controller into pairing mode, open Android Bluetooth settings and select the controller’s name. For a wired connection, attach the controller through a compatible USB-C OTG setup. The game must recognize the controller separately; Android pairing alone does not guarantee that every title accepts external input.
What cannot be concluded from the available evidence
- The Pro 5G’s 120Hz panel does not prove 120-fps gaming.
- The Pro Max’s 10,000mAh battery does not prove longer gaming endurance without power measurements.
- Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 versus Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 naming does not provide a direct, apples-to-apples performance result without device-level testing.
- Higher memory or storage specifications do not establish better frame pacing.
- A manufacturer-listed maximum is not the same as an independently measured average or low-percentile frame rate.
Verdict
For the verified REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, expect a casual-gaming phone rather than a guaranteed high-frame-rate gaming device. Xiaomi’s own figures put PUBG and CODM at up to 60 fps, MLBB at up to 90 fps and LOLM at up to 60 fps, with results affected by settings, optimization and background activity. The 120Hz screen and high touch-sampling figures improve the display and input specification but do not unlock 120-fps gameplay.
If “REDMI Note 17 Pro+” is intended to mean REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, its listed Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 platform, LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.1 storage and 10,000mAh battery make it the more ambitious specification on paper. That still is not a gaming verdict: Xiaomi has not established the name equivalence or supplied comparable game limits and sustained testing in the material available. Confirm the model and obtain equivalent frame-rate and thermal results before choosing one as the better gaming phone.
