A 91mobiles comparison page displayed the vivo at ₹2,000 less, but that snapshot does not confirm current prices or matching storage variants.

Which phone has the better display?
The REDMI Note 17 5G has the clear advantage on the published display specifications. Its 2396 × 1080 OLED panel has substantially more resolution than the Y31t’s 1608 × 720 LCD, which should make fine text and detailed content easier to render sharply. Both are listed with refresh rates up to 120 Hz, so the refresh-rate figure alone does not distinguish them.

The brightness numbers are not directly interchangeable: Xiaomi cites 1800-nit multi-scenario peak brightness, while vivo cites 1250-nit HBM brightness. These are manufacturer-stated figures under different labels, not a controlled side-by-side brightness test.
Battery capacity and charging differences
Xiaomi lists an 8000 mAh typical battery and 45 W wired charging, plus 22.5 W wired reverse charging. vivo lists a 7200 mAh typical capacity (7060 mAh rated) and 44 W FlashCharge. The REDMI therefore has the larger stated capacity and a one-watt higher listed wired charging rate.

Capacity alone does not show which phone lasts longer in everyday use: display, software, signal strength, workload and other factors affect runtime. The cited specifications do not provide comparable battery-life test results.
Performance, cameras and storage
Processor
The REDMI lists a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, and the vivo lists a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. Those model names and clock speeds are useful for identifying the hardware, but the specification pages do not establish comparative speed, gaming quality, heat or sustained performance. Don’t treat the processor generation alone as a measured performance verdict.

Cameras
Both phones list a 50 MP main rear camera and an 8 MP front camera. The Y31t additionally lists a 2 MP bokeh rear camera. Megapixel counts and camera-module listings do not establish which phone takes better photos; no comparable camera test is provided by the cited pages.
RAM and storage
The REDMI page lists 6 GB or 8 GB RAM with 128 GB UFS 2.2 storage. vivo lists 4 GB or 6 GB RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB storage using UFS 3.1. The vivo’s listed storage specification is the newer UFS version, while the REDMI’s listed RAM options extend to 8 GB. Check the exact configuration offered before comparing prices.

Protection, software and network compatibility
vivo’s India page lists IP68 and IP69 protection. The cited Xiaomi India specifications page does not state an IP rating; that omission is not proof that the phone has no water resistance, and it does not support a tested head-to-head durability claim.
The pages list Xiaomi HyperOS 3 for the REDMI and Android 16 with OriginOS 6 for the Y31t. They do not establish a comparable duration for OS upgrades or security updates, so these specifications alone cannot identify a support-period winner.

Network-band support is market-specific. The cited India page lists the REDMI with LTE FDD bands 1/3/5/8/28, LTE TDD 40/41, and 5G SA/NSA bands including n1/3/5/8/28/40/78. vivo lists India 5G bands n1/n3/n5/n8/n28B/n40/n77/n78. If buying outside India, check the exact local model and your carrier’s supported bands rather than assuming these lists apply.
