The UK REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is the newer phone, with a larger display and a much higher rated battery capacity. The older Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G has faster rated wired charging and a higher-resolution main camera on the reviewed configuration. There is no matched independent test here to establish which lasts longer, takes better photos or performs faster in real use, so the choice comes down to your priorities and the price of the exact configurations available.
What is the difference between the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ and Note 17 Pro 5G?
This comparison uses Xiaomi’s UK specifications for the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G and the international Note 14 Pro+ 5G specifications reviewed by TechRadar. The Note 17 is the later generation: Xiaomi announced the international Note 14 series on 10 January 2025, while the UK Note 17 series promotion began on 17 September 2026.

The Note 17 Pro 5G has the larger screen at 6.83 inches, compared with 6.67 inches on the Note 14 Pro+. The Note 14 review specifies a 2712 × 1220 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate; Xiaomi’s UK Note 17 specification describes a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display. These listed details establish a size difference, not an overall display-quality winner: there is no matched test here comparing brightness, colour, viewing outdoors or refresh behaviour.

Which phone is faster?
The Note 14 Pro+ review lists a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, while Xiaomi UK lists a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 for the Note 17 Pro 5G. Chipset names alone do not show which phone is faster in everyday tasks, games or sustained workloads. No matched performance results are available here, so choose based on a direct benchmark or review of the precise models if speed is decisive.
Which has better battery life and charging?
On rated capacity, the UK Note 17 Pro 5G leads: Xiaomi lists an 8,340mAh typical silicon-carbon battery, compared with the 5,110mAh battery in TechRadar’s Note 14 Pro+ review. Capacity is not the same as runtime; screen size, software, network conditions and workload affect how long a phone lasts. No matched battery-life test establishes the winner.

The Note 14 Pro+ has the higher rated wired charging speed at 120W, while the Note 17 lists 67W HyperCharge. Those figures do not establish how long either phone takes to charge under the same conditions. Xiaomi says the Note 17 UK package does not include a power adapter and recommends a 67W adapter. For the Note 14 Pro+, Xiaomi’s global specification recommends a 100W PD adapter or its official 120W adapter. Check the box contents and charger compatibility for the exact regional SKU before purchase.

The reviewed Note 14 Pro+ configuration has a 200MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide; Xiaomi UK lists a 50MP optical image stabilization (OIS) main camera and an 8MP ultrawide on the Note 17 Pro 5G. Megapixel counts do not by themselves predict photo quality. TechRadar reviewer Dashiell Wood, writing after testing the Note 14 Pro+ for over a month, praised its display and charging but described its camera results as inconsistent. That observation applies to the reviewer’s test unit; there is no equivalent matched Note 17 review here to establish a camera-quality winner.

How much more does the Note 17 Pro 5G cost in the UK?
The available UK figures are not a like-for-like price comparison. Xiaomi’s launch promotion listed the Note 17 Pro 5G at £429 for 6GB/256GB and £469 for 8GB/512GB during 17 September through 16 October 2026 GMT, with offers potentially ending earlier if stock ran out. A Xiaomi UK Store snapshot accessed on 7 October 2026 showed the Note 14 Pro+ at £289 for 8GB/256GB. RAM and storage differ for the Note 17 prices, and a dynamic store price can change; these figures do not establish a general or like-for-like price premium.
For a current comparison, check both live listings on the same day and match RAM, storage, seller, warranty and included accessories. Xiaomi’s original Note 14 launch terms listed £399 for 8GB/256GB and £449 for 12GB/512GB in January 2025; those are historical launch prices, not current offers.

Check the regional model before buying
Do not assume every phone called REDMI Note 17 Pro has the UK specification. Xiaomi’s UK model lists an 8,340mAh typical battery, 50MP OIS main and 8MP ultrawide cameras, and a 16MP selfie camera. A 15 July 2026 report by Cinco Días describes a China-market Note 17 Pro with a 9,000mAh battery and different camera details. Those China-market specifications and prices should not be substituted for the UK model. Confirm the product model number, local network bands, warranty and package contents with the seller. Which one should you choose?
Choose the UK Note 17 Pro 5G if
- You want the newer generation and a larger 6.83-inch screen.
- The higher listed battery capacity is a priority, while recognizing that capacity alone does not prove longer real-world runtime.
- You are comparing current UK offers and can find a configuration and price that suit you.
Choose the Note 14 Pro+ 5G if
- You value its higher rated 120W wired charging over the Note 17’s 67W rating.
- You prefer the reviewed model’s 200MP main-camera specification, without treating megapixels as a guarantee of better photos.
- A suitable 8GB/256GB offer is available at a price that makes sense against the newer phone.
TechRadar’s Note 14 Pro+ review also criticized software bloat, while its camera assessment was mixed. Those are reviewer observations, not a guarantee of every buyer’s experience.
