As of October 9, 2026, the ASUS ROG Phone 9 is the more evidence-backed phone to evaluate if you need to buy now—but there is not enough confirmed information to name it the overall winner. REDMAGIC has scheduled the 12 Pro+ launch event for October 15, 2026, and has not yet confirmed its full retail specifications, price, or regional sale date. If you can wait, compare the final REDMAGIC listing and independent reviews with the ROG Phone 9 before choosing. This comparison is specifically with the ROG Phone 9, the latest ROG model with a full official specification page identified here—not the ROG series in general.
What is confirmed about each phone?
REDMAGIC 12 Pro+: launch date announced, retail details pending
REDMAGIC’s official notice, dated October 8, 2026, schedules a new-product event for October 15 at 14:30. The notice does not establish the 12 Pro+’s complete final specifications, price, first-sale date, or country-by-country availability. Those details remain pending until REDMAGIC publishes them. REDMAGIC’s announcement
In a separate September 23 announcement, REDMAGIC named the phone’s chipset as the “第六代骁龙8超级至尊版,” translated by the manufacturer as a sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition. That is a manufacturer announcement, not an independent performance test; it does not show how the phone performs in games or compares with the ROG Phone 9.

ASUS ROG Phone 9: published specifications
ASUS lists the ROG Phone 9 with Android 15, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, Adreno 830 GPU, 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Its listed screen is a 6.78-inch FHD+ Samsung Flexible AMOLED panel with 2400 × 1080 resolution and LTPO refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz. ASUS specifies up to 165Hz in system settings or 185Hz in Game Genie. The page also lists IP68, a weight of 227g, and dimensions of 163.8 × 77 × 8.9mm. ASUS ROG Phone 9 specifications

ASUS lists a 5800mAh battery and HyperCharge, and identifies the AeroActive Cooler X Pro as an optional accessory with a subwoofer. Battery capacity alone does not establish real-world battery life, and an external cooler is a feature to consider—not proof of better sustained gaming performance. ASUS ROG Phone 9 product page
ASUS notes that specifications and certifications may vary by regional SKU. Check the official page for your country and the exact local model before relying on a specification or certification.

How to choose between them
If you need a phone now: check local price and availability
The ROG Phone 9 has a published specification page, but that does not confirm current local stock or street price. The REDMAGIC event notice likewise does not confirm pricing or availability. Compare the price and exact configuration available where you live; do not treat an unannounced 12 Pro+ price or release date as settled. Check REDMAGIC’s regional listings after the October 15 event.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf gaming performance is your priority: wait for independent testing
The published chipset names do not make a fair head-to-head performance verdict. Look for independent reviews of the final retail 12 Pro+ and ROG Phone 9 that test the games you play, sustained frame rates, temperatures, and performance over longer sessions. No comparative benchmark or thermal result is established here.

For availability on select networks, please consult your service provider. Note: This device is not compatible with AT&T/Cricket or CDMA networks like Verizon and Sprint.
- Two Screens, More Control: Large 6.78” curved main display for streaming, gaming, and browsing, plus a smaller, rear screen for quick selfies, messages, and music controls.
- Smooth Performance: Handles your favorite apps, games, and multitasking without slowing down, with plenty of space for all your photos and videos.
- Capture Your Best Moments: Triple rear camera and high-quality selfie camera for bright, detailed photos and 4K videos.
- All-Day Battery: Stay powered all day with our 5,000mAh battery, and recharge in a flash with our 66W quick charge technology that tops you up from 0 to 100% in just 20 minutes.
If display and controls matter: compare the final REDMAGIC feature sheet
The ROG Phone 9’s officially listed display reaches 185Hz through Game Genie. The 12 Pro+’s final display specifications, shoulder controls, and touch features have not been established by the launch notice. Compare those details only after REDMAGIC publishes the retail specifications; earlier REDMAGIC models are not a reliable substitute for this model’s confirmed spec sheet.
If you play for long sessions: weigh cooling, comfort, and noise
The ROG Phone 9 supports the optional AeroActive Cooler X Pro. Before buying an external accessory, check its compatibility and local availability, then consider its cost, noise, and comfort alongside independent sustained-gaming tests. The 12 Pro+’s model-specific cooling claims and real-world thermals still need post-launch verification.

If you use your gaming phone every day: check durability and broader reviews
ASUS lists an IP68 rating for the ROG Phone 9. The REDMAGIC event notice does not establish a comparable rating for the 12 Pro+, so wait for its final certification before comparing water and dust resistance. For either phone, use reviews of the final retail model to assess cameras, software support, ergonomics, and actual battery life; the listed capacity is not a runtime test.

What to verify before paying
- Identify the exact regional model. Confirm the memory and storage configuration, specifications, and certifications on the local product page.
- Compare current local prices and stock. Check authorized regional listings for both phones; neither an official specification page nor a launch announcement guarantees availability at a particular price.
- For the REDMAGIC 12 Pro+, read the post-event retail listing. Confirm its full specifications, first-sale timing, and availability in your country rather than relying on pre-launch claims.
- Read independent reviews before choosing on performance. Prioritize sustained gaming, temperature, battery-life, and camera tests on final retail devices.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
