Back up your old phone first, then use the new phone’s first-time setup to copy apps and data over cable or Wi-Fi. The transfer is not a complete clone: check downloads, hidden folders, and app-specific backups separately. After setup, check for a routine system update. Exact screens and firmware for the REDMAGIC 12 Pro+ depend on the device’s software and market, so confirm model-specific instructions with REDMAGIC support before attempting a manual ROM installation.
Before you start: back up and prepare both phones
Keep the old phone available and unlocked, charge both devices, and connect the new phone to Wi-Fi during setup. Sign in with the Google Account used for the old phone’s backup. Check that the new phone has enough storage; Google’s transfer flow lets you choose what to copy if space is limited. Google recommends preparing and backing up the old phone before switching (Google’s switch guide).
REDMAGIC documents this Google Drive backup path: Settings > System > Backup > Back up to Google Drive. Menu names can differ by software version, so use the closest backup option shown on your device. See REDMAGIC’s backup instructions. A backup gives you a recovery option; it does not guarantee that every app or file will transfer.

Transfer data and apps during first-time setup
Start copying during initial setup if possible. Google says the transfer option may not be available after setup is complete. The exact labels can vary, but look for an option such as Copy apps and data and follow the prompts on both phones. REDMAGIC’s general FAQ describes a similar setup flow; it does not establish the precise screens for every 12 Pro+ market or software build (REDMAGIC FAQ).

- Turn on the new phone, connect it to Wi-Fi, and begin setup.
- When prompted, choose to copy apps and data from an old device.
- Choose a wired or wireless transfer and follow the instructions on screen.
- Review the items selected for transfer and leave both phones connected until copying finishes.
- Sign in to apps that need their own credentials or restore process.
Android supports both cable and wireless transfers. For a wired transfer, the cable must fit both phones and support data; an adapter may be needed depending on their ports. The exact connector on the 12 Pro+ has not been established here, so check both devices before buying a cable. Wireless is an alternative. Follow Google’s Android transfer instructions.
What usually transfers—and what to check yourself
Google says the setup transfer can copy apps and certain app data, music, photos, videos, contacts stored on the phone or SIM, text messages, most phone settings, wallpaper, and call history. These categories do not mean that every app’s contents or every file is included.

Check these separately after setup:
- Downloads and documents: PDFs and other files in Downloads may not transfer automatically.
- Hidden-folder media: photos and videos in hidden folders may be left behind.
- App-specific data: some apps do not use Android backup, and apps outside Google Play may not copy through the standard flow.
- Accounts and synced information: non-Google accounts and their data, as well as contacts or calendars synced elsewhere, may need their own sign-in or export process.
- Other preferences: ringtones and some settings may not carry over.
- WhatsApp: chats and data restore from cloud only if a backup was enabled on the old device.

Choose the iPhone or Apple-device option when the new phone’s setup flow asks which device you are moving from, then follow the prompts. Keep the phones connected until setup finishes. Do not assume every iOS app or item has an Android equivalent or will transfer. REDMAGIC’s FAQ specifically advises switching off iMessage so you can continue receiving texts and moving iCloud photos and videos to Google Photos. If you no longer have the old phone
During setup, choose the option to restore from an existing Android backup and sign in to the Google Account that holds it. You need access to that account and an available backup; setup may also request the old phone’s PIN, pattern, or password. The restore can only bring back data included in that backup. See Google’s instructions for switching phones.
Check for a routine software update
Once setup is complete and the phone is connected to Wi-Fi, look in Settings for the system update option and follow the on-screen instructions. REDMAGIC’s general support guidance points to Settings > System > About phone to inspect the build number and Settings > System update for its described update flow. Those paths are general guidance, not confirmation of the exact 12 Pro+ labels or currently available build. REDMAGIC’s published policy lists “2 Generations of Android OS Updates” and “3 years from the product launch date” of security updates for “REDMAGIC 11 Pro & Newer.” The policy says timing, version, and frequency can vary by region, carrier, and model, and that OTA updates roll out in batches. It does not establish a specific 12 Pro+ patch date or regional schedule. Check the current terms and applicability on REDMAGIC’s software update policy.

A local ROM installation is not the same as accepting a normal over-the-air update. REDMAGIC’s manual global-ROM instructions say installation requires a complete wipe, recommend backing up first, and specify a charge of at least 50%. The instructions also warn that flashing incorrect software can void the warranty.

Do not install a package simply because it is labeled “global” or appears to match a similar phone. Confirm the exact model, region, and package with official REDMAGIC support before proceeding. The general instructions describe a local update route, but do not verify the correct package or exact menu wording for the 12 Pro+ in every market.
