A Reddit poster says their MSI prebuilt’s RTX 5090 stopped appearing and that MSI arranged a replacement card imported from Taiwan. The poster also says they were told their AI software had burned a chip. Those details are an unverified personal account: the replacement and the reported diagnosis have not been independently confirmed, and MSI has not commented on this specific case.
What the Reddit poster says happened
The indexed Reddit excerpt says the poster’s RTX 5090 stopped appearing in their system. The poster says MSI told them their AI software had burned a chip, and that MSI imported an RTX 5090 from Taiwan because local stock was unavailable. The excerpt does not establish the exact card variant, the poster’s service region, or the terms under which MSI handled the claim.
The Reddit page could not be retrieved directly, so these details are limited to the indexed excerpt. They should be read as the poster’s account, not as an independently verified report of MSI’s actions or a technical finding about the failure.

Did AI software cause the GPU failure?
That cause is not established. The poster attributes the explanation to what they say MSI told them, but no independent diagnosis or MSI statement about this RMA was located. MSI’s general customer-induced-damage guidance does not identify AI software or AI workloads as a cause of GPU damage.

In its guidance dated December 26, 2024, MSI says examples of customer-induced damage include foreign objects or oxidation on a PCB, mechanical damage, and PCB damage. It says the examples are not exhaustive and that the service center makes the actual assessment. The article says improper use may lead to an additional repair estimate or warranty being voided; it does not validate the reported explanation in this case. MSI customer-induced-damage guidance.
What the Taiwan import does—and does not—tell us
The poster says the replacement was imported from Taiwan because the card was unavailable locally. That does not identify where the poster sought service, whether the original card was an authorized local purchase, or which warranty terms applied. An import source alone cannot establish warranty eligibility.

MSI’s October 15, 2025 statement about non-authorized parallel-import RTX 5090 cards applies specifically to China: MSI said it did not officially sell or distribute the RTX 5090 there and that such units were not covered by MSI warranty, repair, or technical support in China. That policy cannot be applied to the poster’s situation without confirming the service region and purchase channel. MSI’s China-specific RTX 5090 statement.
How RTX 5090 owners can check their support options
MSI’s support pages provide routes for checking warranty status, requesting service, tracking an RMA, and finding graphics-card support materials. These are starting points, not a promise that a particular claim will be accepted.

- Identify the exact card. Record the model and serial number from the card, packaging, or purchase documents; the poster’s account does not specify the replacement’s board variant.
- Use the support route for the relevant region. MSI’s Global graphics-card support page links to warranty-status, service/RMA, downloads, support articles, and contact options. MSI also lists warranty information, warranty-status lookup, RMA tracking, online RMA requests, and graphics-card articles on its MSI USA graphics-card support page.
- Ask about the purchase channel and service terms. If the card was imported or bought through a parallel-import seller, confirm the policy for the country where service is requested rather than assuming that another region’s rules apply.
- Keep the service center’s findings. If MSI attributes damage to use or handling, request the assessment and any repair estimate from the service center; general policy examples do not determine an individual claim.
What remains unconfirmed
- Whether MSI actually supplied the replacement described in the indexed post.
- Whether a service center diagnosed a burned chip, and what evidence supported that finding.
- Whether AI software or an AI workload contributed to the reported failure.
- The poster’s location, original purchase channel, warranty status, and the terms of any replacement.
