You can recover a deleted website only if a usable backup is still available and the site’s domain or subdomain can be added to an active hosting plan. First check the site’s Backups area in hPanel; then follow the route for WordPress, another CMS or custom site, AI Builder manual mode, or a temporary-domain site. A restore rolls the site back to the selected backup date, so save current data first if you can.

Check backups and prepare the domain before restoring

  1. Sign in to the same account. Open the website’s dashboard in hPanel and check Backups for dates you can restore. Available snapshots vary by account; Hostinger’s public guides do not establish which dates remain available for your site. If no suitable backup appears, the documented backup restore routes cannot recover it. See Hostinger’s deleted-website recovery guide.
  2. Protect newer work. If the site is still accessible or you can otherwise download its current files and database, make a copy before restoring. A restore replaces or rolls back data to the selected backup state; changes made afterward may be lost. Hostinger recommends downloading current data as a safeguard in its backup restoration instructions.
  3. Make the domain available on the plan. Re-add the deleted domain to an active hosting plan. If the site was on a subdomain, recreate that subdomain before adding it. Follow the labels shown in your current hPanel because interface names can change.
  4. Confirm account scope. The general automated restore procedure applies within the same account. Moving a restore across accounts is a separate migration process, not the same backup workflow.

Choose the recovery route for your site

Site type Recovery route What is restored
WordPress Use Website backup if available; otherwise restore files and database separately. Website backup restores files and database together. Separate recovery requires available file and database backups.
Other CMS or custom code Restore site files and database separately. The selected directory or site files, plus the matching database backup.
AI Builder manual mode Contact support about a deleted site; if the site can be opened in the editor, restore a version there and publish it. A saved builder version, if available and recoverable.
Random temporary domain Create a new temporary domain and remap the recovered files to its directory. Files from a pre-deletion backup; dynamic sites may also need their database and domain references updated.

Restore a WordPress website

  1. In hPanel, open the site dashboard and select Backups.
  2. Choose the preferred Website backup date and select the restore control (shown as Restore website in Hostinger’s guide).
  3. Check the selected date and the overwrite notice. Proceed only if you accept that current files and database will be replaced by the backup state.
  4. Track progress in Restore History. Hostinger says restoration usually takes 10–15 minutes depending on site size; this is an estimate, not a guaranteed completion time. The process can continue in the background. Details are in the WordPress backup restoration guide.
  5. Open the site in a private or incognito browser window. If it still appears unchanged, clear the browser cache and check again.

If Website backup is missing or shows no backup, use separate file and database restoration only if the corresponding snapshots are available. The general backup restore guide covers that workflow.

Restore another CMS or a custom-coded site

Do not use the WordPress full-restore route for a non-WordPress website. Restore its files and database as separate parts, using backups from a matching date where possible.

  1. In the site’s Backups area, select Files backups, choose the appropriate date, and restore either the site directory or the specific directory or subdomain used by the site.
  2. Find the database name, username, and other connection details in the restored site’s configuration file. Hostinger’s deleted-site guide points to the domain’s public_html directory or the subdomain’s directory for this information.
  3. Recreate the database and database user with the credentials expected by the site configuration, then restore the matching database backup.
  4. Visit the site in an incognito window and check key pages and functions. If the files and database do not match, the site may show errors or outdated content.

Hostinger’s deleted-website guide describes the file and database steps. The automated restore guidance also notes that symbolic links (symlinks) are not recreated automatically; if your site depends on them, add them again manually.

Recover an AI Builder manual-mode site

For a deleted manual-mode AI Builder site, Hostinger directs customers to contact support for restoration assistance. Its AI Builder backup guide says manual-mode backups are created at first publication and after later updates, and retained for 30 days. Those backups do not guarantee that every deleted site can be recovered in every account state.

If you can open the site in the editor and see a saved version, restore that version there. Publish the site afterward to make the selected version live; restoring it in the editor alone does not put it online.

Recover a site that used a temporary domain

A randomly assigned temporary-domain address cannot simply be recreated with the same string. If an unexpired backup is available, create a new temporary domain, restore the old site’s files from a pre-deletion backup, and use File Manager to map the recovered directory to the new temporary-domain folder. Follow Hostinger’s temporary-website recovery steps.

For a dynamic site such as WordPress, restore the old database if needed and update any hardcoded references to the old temporary domain in the configuration and database. Test the new site before removing any empty folder left behind.

  • Check that the domain or recreated subdomain points to the recovered site directory.
  • For a general backup restore, recreate any required symlinks manually.
  • Use Restore History to check an ongoing WordPress restore rather than starting another restore while the first is processing.

Website files and email are separate recoveries

Restoring website files does not itself restore email accounts. Hostinger’s deleted-site guide says email may be recoverable if the website was removed less than 14 days earlier. Act promptly and follow the separate email recovery procedure linked from its deleted-website guide.
