The Reany C1 2027 is a compact city e-bike built around a clean, low-maintenance belt drive and a single-speed transmission. That simplicity is the bike’s appeal—and its main limitation: steep hills demand more from the motor and rider, while the absence of a supplied luggage rack means panniers require an accessory retrofit. Notebookcheck reported a price of €2,299 and direct manufacturer availability in Germany and other European markets.
What the Reany C1 2027 is
Reany positions the C1 2027 for routine urban travel rather than off-road riding or long-distance touring. Its compact 20-inch wheels, 18.3 kg stated weight and rigid front fork keep the format relatively light and easy to maneuver through city traffic. Integrated lights, mudguards and a kickstand are included.
The drivetrain uses a belt instead of a conventional chain and abandons derailleur gears in favor of a single-speed layout. Silvio Werner described the defining compromise in his October 15, 2026 Notebookcheck report: “A notable trade-off is the single-speed setup: instead of standard gears, the e-bike uses a low-maintenance belt drive.” A belt stays visually tidy and avoids routine chain lubrication, but a single ratio cannot be shifted to make a climb easier.

What is the catch with the belt drive?
Single-speed climbing
The belt itself is not the problem. Its low-maintenance operation is the convenience feature. The catch is that it is paired with only one gear. On flat streets, the arrangement can feel direct and uncluttered. On a steep incline, the rider cannot select a smaller rear gear to maintain cadence, so the motor and legs must supply more force. The 38 Nm rear-hub motor should smooth acceleration, but the report characterizes steep-incline performance rather than documenting an independent hill-climb test.

Less flexibility across routes
Commuters whose journeys are mostly level may value the reduced adjustment and cleaning. Riders facing sustained grades, frequent stop-start climbs or heavy loads should treat the single-speed design as a route constraint. No measured hill-performance data or standardized range test is reported, so a buyer should not infer a guaranteed grade capability from the torque figure alone.
Can you carry panniers?
Not immediately with standard rear panniers. The C1 2027 does not include a luggage rack, despite including mudguards and a kickstand. A rack-compatible mounting system is therefore an extra purchase rather than an out-of-the-box feature.

The report says both front and rear racks can be retrofitted. Before ordering, verify the rack’s mounting points, axle and brake clearance, maximum load rating and compatibility with the particular C1 frame. Add the rack—and panniers if needed—to the €2,299 purchase budget. A front rack can distribute cargo, while a rear rack is usually the simpler choice for everyday bags, but neither option is included in the stated price.

How the compact hardware affects daily riding
20-inch wheels and rigid fork
The small wheels support the C1’s compact city profile and can make storage and low-speed maneuvering easier. The rigid fork removes suspension weight and maintenance, but it does not absorb impacts the way a suspension fork does. Expect a firmer ride over potholes, cobbles and broken asphalt; tire pressure and tire choice will matter more because the fork supplies no damping.

Braking and weather equipment
Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors provide the reported stopping hardware. Integrated lights and mudguards are already fitted, reducing the number of commuting accessories to add. Those inclusions do not change the need to check local lighting, reflector and cargo regulations before riding.
