RealPlayer Downloader can fail on Windows 10 for several different reasons. It may be out of date, blocked from updating, unable to detect a compatible video, or affected by an incomplete RealPlayer installation. A browser extension or a missing system-tray process can also leave the downloader stuck at Waiting to download.

Start by updating RealDownloader to version 2026.2.26.0. RealPlayer’s current Windows software supports Windows 10 and lists Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge/Edge Chromium as supported browsers.

1. Update RealDownloader first

RealPlayer acknowledged a Windows downloader problem reported during January and February 2026. Symptoms included downloads remaining at Waiting to download, changing to unable to download, stopping shortly after starting, or failing to detect YouTube videos. The listed fix is RealDownloader version 2026.2.26.0.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open RealPlayer.
  2. Click the RealPlayer logo in the upper-left corner.
  3. Click Check for Update.
  4. If the Message Center window appears, select Other Software to obtain the latest RealDownloader.

If you use a paid copy of RealPlayer 20/20, RealPlayer 22, or RealPlayer 24, there is an extra option. Uncheck New RealPlayer 25, then click Other to install the latest Video Downloader. This is the update path specified by RealPlayer for those paid versions.

2. Check the installed downloader version

If RealPlayer reports that it is current but downloads still fail, check the executable directly:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Go to C:Program Files (x86)RealRealPlayer.
  3. Find the file named videodl.
  4. Right-click it and select Properties.
  5. Open the Details tab and read the file version.

The current target version is 2026.2.26.0. Do not use the older 2022.10.6.0 number as a current target; that version was associated with an older 2023 update problem.

If the file is still old, Windows may be preventing the updater from replacing it. Close RealPlayer and the browsers, restart Windows, and run the update again. If it still cannot update, proceed to the reinstall section below.

3. Restart RealDownloader from the system tray

A browser can remain open while the downloader process is stopped or stuck. When a page reports No videos to download on this page, RealPlayer’s documented restart procedure is:

  1. Click the small arrow near the lower-right corner of the Windows taskbar to open the system tray.
  2. Click the RealPlayer icon.
  3. Select Restart RealDownloader.
  4. Close the browser completely and open it again.

Try the same video after the restart. This message does not automatically mean that RealDownloader is damaged. RealPlayer says it can indicate that the specific video or website is incompatible with the downloader used through Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.

4. Test a different video and browser

Do not diagnose the whole installation from one page. A video may be embedded in a way RealDownloader cannot read, may require an account, or may use a delivery method the downloader does not support.

Test What the result indicates
Download a known compatible test video If it works, RealDownloader is operating and the original site or video is the likely problem.
Try the same public video in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox Success in one browser points to a browser-specific detection issue.
Try another video on the same website If other videos work, the original video format or embed is likely unsupported.
Test a page that requires signing in RealPlayer does not support Download This Video for sites where a user must log in to watch the video.

Use only videos you are allowed to save, and follow the website’s terms. A successful test download does not mean every video on the internet is supported.

5. Understand the “No videos to download” message

RealPlayer specifically lists incompatible videos and websites as common causes of this message. It is especially likely when:

  • The video is available only after signing in.
  • The page contains an unsupported embedded player.
  • The site has changed how it delivers or protects video.
  • The browser page has not been reopened after RealDownloader was restarted.

After restarting the downloader and browser, test an unrelated public video. If the test video downloads but the intended video does not, reinstalling RealPlayer is unlikely to solve that particular failure.

6. Deal with the old Discover-tab workflow

The old RealPlayer Discover-tab downloader button is not the current browser workflow. RealPlayer says Microsoft’s discontinuation of Internet Explorer support required changes for Edge/Chromium, which is why the old Downloader button no longer appears in the Discover tab.

For current Windows 10 use, work from a supported browser—Chrome, Firefox, or Edge/Edge Chromium—and use the current RealDownloader integration. Do not treat instructions written for the old Discover tab as evidence that the current installation is broken.

7. Try the legacy RealPlayer browser workaround only for an old installation

RealPlayer documents a browser-engine workaround under its legacy instructions. It is not the normal current browser procedure, but it may be relevant when using an older RealPlayer installation with its built-in browser features.

  1. Open RealPlayer.
  2. Click the RealPlayer logo in the upper-left corner.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Under Content, select Media Types.
  5. Clear Use the latest browser engine for HTML pages in RealPlayer.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the computer.

RealPlayer warns that this may require you to sign in again. The related legacy navigation is RealPlayer logo → File → Open. Enter the website address, play the video, move the pointer over the video’s upper-right corner, and select Download This Video. If that button is disabled, right-click the video and select Download This video.

These instructions are documented specifically for RealPlayer 18 and should not be confused with the current Chrome, Firefox, and Edge workflow. RealPlayer 18 and earlier have reached end-of-life support.

8. Reinstall RealPlayer if the update cannot complete

A reinstall is appropriate when the updater cannot replace videodl, RealDownloader is missing from the installation, or RealPlayer is not behaving normally in every supported browser.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Remove the existing installation

  1. Close RealPlayer, browsers, and other applications.
  2. Type Control Panel into Windows Search and open it.
  3. Open the installed-programs list.
  4. Locate RealTimes or RealPlayer.
  5. Select it and click Uninstall on the toolbar.
  6. Follow the uninstall dialog and remove the available components.

Removing the RealPlayer Library does not delete the underlying music files, according to RealPlayer’s Windows instructions. However, playlists may need to be created again.

Install the current RealPlayer software from RealPlayer’s official website, then run the downloader update path again and verify the videodl version. Avoid third-party download sites that may bundle unrelated software.

If RealPlayer is missing from Programs and Features

RealPlayer says that an entry missing from Control Panel usually means the installation did not complete correctly. In that case, over-install the latest RealPlayer over the existing files. Once the installation has repaired the program, uninstall it if necessary and perform a clean installation.

9. Check the Windows 10 requirements

Current RealPlayer desktop software lists these minimum requirements:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Requirement Minimum listed specification
Operating system Windows 10 is supported
Processor Intel i5 5th Generation CPU or newer
Memory 4 GB RAM
Free storage 1.5 GB
Supported browsers Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Edge Chromium

If the computer falls below these specifications, installation and playback can be unreliable. Lack of disk space can also cause a download to stop shortly after it begins.

10. Do not use playback-crash fixes for downloader problems

A message such as RealPlayer has stopped working is a different problem from RealDownloader failing to detect a browser video. RealPlayer’s old Windows 10 crash article discusses a historical conflict involving Windows update KB4013429 and Microsoft’s correction, KB4015438, released March 20, 2017.

Instructions involving 16-bit color, Windows XP/Vista display settings, DirectX, or the Hardware → Video Card Compatibility slider concern legacy playback crashes. They are not current fixes for browser-based video-download detection. Updating or restarting RealDownloader is the correct first response to a downloader-specific failure.

Recommended troubleshooting order

  1. Update RealDownloader to 2026.2.26.0.
  2. Restart it from the Windows system tray.
  3. Close and reopen Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
  4. Test a different public video that does not require login.
  5. Try another supported browser.
  6. Check the videodl executable version.
  7. Reinstall RealPlayer if the updater cannot install the current downloader.

FAQ

Does RealPlayer Downloader work on Windows 10?

Yes. RealPlayer lists Windows 10 as supported by the current desktop software. It lists Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge/Edge Chromium as supported browsers, with minimum hardware of an Intel i5 5th Generation processor or newer, 4 GB RAM, and 1.5 GB of free disk space.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the current RealDownloader version?

RealPlayer’s current update article lists version 2026.2.26.0. Open RealPlayer, click the RealPlayer logo, choose Check for Update, and use Other Software in the Message Center if it appears.

Why does RealDownloader stay at “Waiting to download”?

This was one of the symptoms in a January–February 2026 downloader failure acknowledged by RealPlayer. Update RealDownloader to version 2026.2.26.0, then restart the downloader and browser.

Why does RealPlayer say there are no videos to download?

The video or website may be incompatible, even if the installation is working. The message can also appear when the downloader process needs restarting. From the system tray, select the RealPlayer icon, choose Restart RealDownloader, and reopen the browser. Videos that require a login are explicitly unsupported.

How can I check the RealDownloader version installed on my PC?

In File Explorer, open C:Program Files (x86)RealRealPlayer. Right-click videodl, choose Properties, and open Details. The file version is shown there.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I use the old Internet Explorer or Discover-tab instructions?

Usually not. The old Discover-tab Downloader button disappeared after Microsoft discontinued Internet Explorer support and RealPlayer changed its Edge/Chromium handling. Current troubleshooting should use Chrome, Firefox, or Edge with the current RealDownloader.

Will reinstalling RealPlayer delete my music files?

RealPlayer says deleting the RealPlayer Library does not delete the underlying music files. Playlists may need to be recreated after removal.

The Bottom Line

For most Windows 10 failures, update RealDownloader first, restart it from the system tray, and test a different public video in a supported browser. If a test video works, the original website or video is probably unsupported—particularly if it requires sign-in. If every browser fails and videodl is not version 2026.2.26.0, repair or reinstall the current RealPlayer installation.
