Use an RBF solver in Blender when several pose-related inputs need to control several outputs together—for example, when a shoulder pose should blend corrective shapes across multiple properties. For a simple one-input-to-one-output relationship, an ordinary Blender driver is usually the easier choice. Brave Rabbit’s RBF Nodes add-on provides the solver; it is not built into Blender.
What does an RBF solver do in a Blender rig?
RBF means radial basis function. RBF Nodes records example poses and interpolates values between them, letting multiple inputs jointly drive multiple output properties through one solver. The product listing describes its purpose as “Drive multiple properties with multiple input values.” Brave Rabbit’s product listing describes the add-on’s capabilities; these are vendor claims, not results from an independent comparative test.
According to the RBF Nodes manual, inputs and outputs can involve objects, armature bones, shape keys, modifiers, shader properties, and Geometry Nodes values. The method is useful when the relationship depends on a combination of pose values rather than a single direct control.
When is RBF useful—and when is a driver enough?
Use RBF for interacting pose effects
Brave Rabbit cites corrective shapes for shoulders and hips, facial controls that blend several shapes according to controller positions, and shader or Geometry Nodes parameters driven by transforms or custom values. In such cases, several inputs may need to coordinate several outputs. The vendor also positions RBF Nodes as a way to reduce reliance on helper bones, long expressions, or scripts; those are product-stated use cases, not independently verified advantages.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep straightforward relationships as drivers
If one property simply follows one controller or value, a regular Blender driver is usually simpler and has fewer moving parts. RBF is most compelling when mapping combinations of sampled poses becomes cumbersome to express as separate drivers.
Which option fits your rig?
| Option | Best fit | Authoring and evaluation | Cost and compatibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary Blender drivers | Simple one-to-one relationships | Set up and evaluate drivers in Blender | Not stated in the cited RBF Nodes materials |
| RBF Nodes full version | Creating or editing multi-input, multi-output pose interpolation setups | Authors, edits, and evaluates setups | The Superhive listing reviewed 2026-10-07 showed $17.99 and 12 months of support and product updates; listing compatibility was Blender 4.2–5.2. Terms and availability can change. Check the current listing. |
| RBF Nodes Runtime | Evaluating an existing setup for playback or rendering | Evaluation only; it does not author or edit setups | Free, according to the product FAQ; confirm current license terms before redistribution. |
RBF Drivers is a separate Blender add-on project, not another name for RBF Nodes. It has its own interface and claims about scriptable setup and runtime behavior; do not assume it has the same features or Blender compatibility. Its project page provides its own details.

How do you plan sample poses?
The RBF Nodes FAQ recommends at least three poses: a rest pose and two additional poses. For a simple setup, three to five well-spread poses are a starting point, not a guarantee of coverage. Sample the extremes of the movement you need, since interpolation is most dependable within the range represented by the samples. An animation through the range of motion can help reveal those extremes.

Keep solver setups lean. Brave Rabbit says computational cost grows with the number of inputs, outputs, and poses, and recommends separate solvers for parts that do not influence each other. This is vendor guidance; no independent performance benchmark is established in the cited materials. The product page says weight solving occurs on activation and playback uses lighter interpolation calculations, also a vendor-reported description rather than an independent benchmark.

What do you need to install, and what does a client need?
RBF Nodes is a Brave Rabbit add-on, not a feature included with Blender. The vendor’s current materials say version 4 requires Blender 4.2 or later; the marketplace listing reviewed 2026-10-07 reported compatibility through Blender 5.2. Check the current listing and manual for the version you use, since support can change.

- Decide whether you need to author. If you will create or edit the solver, use the full RBF Nodes add-on. If you only need to evaluate an existing rig during playback or rendering, the free Runtime version may be sufficient.
- Install and enable the appropriate add-on. Use the package and installation directions provided by Brave Rabbit for the Blender version in use; the cited materials do not establish a single UI path or package procedure for every supported release.
- Confirm the add-on is enabled wherever the rig will run. A rig using RBF setups requires RBF Nodes or Runtime installed and enabled for evaluation. Plan for client machines and render nodes, not just the workstation where the rig was authored.
- Check redistribution terms before sharing. The vendor says Runtime may be distributed with a rig, but review current license terms before including it in a delivery.
