The Razer Viper V4 Pro is a strong fit for competitive players who want a very light, low-profile symmetrical wireless mouse and prioritize responsive performance. Its main compromises are loud clicks, no Bluetooth, a right-handed-only design, limited onboard controls, and a premium price. For most buyers, shape and connectivity matter more than its headline 8,000 Hz polling ceiling or 50,000 DPI maximum.

Razer Viper V4 Pro pros and cons at a glance

Pros Cons
Very light: Razer lists 49 g for black and 50 g for white, excluding cable and dongle. Loud main clicks, which can be distracting in quiet or shared rooms.
Strong competitive performance: RTINGS reports exceptional raw performance and low, consistent click latency. No Bluetooth; connectivity is wired or Razer HyperSpeed wireless.
Low-profile symmetrical shape that RTINGS found comfortable and accommodating across hand sizes and grip types. Right-handed design only; there is no left-handed version.
Up to 8,000 Hz polling in wired and wireless modes, according to Razer. Battery estimates vary substantially with polling rate: up to 180 hours at 1,000 Hz versus up to 45 hours at 8,000 Hz.
Optical scroll encoder and Gen-4 optical switches rated by Razer for 100 million clicks. Six programmable controls and one onboard profile; no tilt-scroll or secondary scroll wheel.
Excellent build quality, according to RTINGS. Premium launch pricing, and the V3 Pro-to-V4 Pro changes are iterative rather than a dramatic redesign.

What the Viper V4 Pro does well

Its low weight suits quick, precise movement

Razer specifies a weight of 49 g for the black model and 50 g for the white model, not including the cable and dongle. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a third-party measurement. TechRadar also reported weighing its own review unit at 49 g. A light mouse can feel easy to reposition during fast play, although some players prefer a heavier or differently balanced design.

Competitive performance is its clearest strength

RTINGS’ independent testing describes exceptional raw performance, strong sensor performance, and low, consistent click latency. It reports support for polling rates up to 8,000 Hz in both wired and wireless use. These findings make the mouse appealing to players who value responsive input; they do not mean every player will notice a practical benefit from the maximum polling rate.

The shape favors low-profile claw and fingertip grips

Razer describes the Viper V4 Pro as a right-handed symmetrical mouse optimized for claw and fingertip grips. RTINGS found it comfortable and accommodating across hand sizes and grip types. Shape is personal: if possible, compare its low profile with a mouse you already find comfortable before buying. A fuller ergonomic design, such as the DeathAdder V4 Pro, has a different fit.

Its scroll and switch designs are updated

RTINGS notes that the V4 Pro replaces the Viper V3 Pro’s mechanical scroll encoder with an optical encoder, a design intended to improve long-term durability. Razer specifies Gen-4 optical switches rated for 100 million clicks. The click rating is a manufacturer lifecycle specification, not an independent durability test or a guarantee of how long an individual mouse will last.

It offers long advertised battery life at 1,000 Hz

Razer advertises up to 180 hours at 1,000 Hz. That is a manufacturer maximum, not a promised runtime: settings and actual use affect battery life. The lower polling setting is worth considering if longer time between charges matters more to you than running the mouse at its maximum rate.

Where the Viper V4 Pro falls short

The clicks are loud

RTINGS and TechRadar both call out the main clicks as loud. That is a meaningful drawback for shared workspaces, late-night gaming near other people, or anyone who prefers quiet peripherals. If sound matters, try the mouse in person or consider a quieter click design; RTINGS contrasts it with the Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE’s inductive, haptic clicks.

There is no Bluetooth mode

The Viper V4 Pro supports wired and Razer HyperSpeed wireless connectivity, but not Bluetooth, according to the reviewed specifications; RTINGS and Macworld also identify Bluetooth’s absence as a limitation. If you need Bluetooth to switch easily among devices or to connect without the included wireless setup, this is a concrete reason to choose another mouse.

  • PRO-LEVEL SPEED WITH ULTRA-LIGHT CONTROL — Weighs just 56g with re-engineered ergonomic shape, enabling faster swipes and precise tracking for FPS, esports tournaments, and competitive gaming performance

  • MORE CONTROL WITH OPTICAL SCROLL AND SWITCHES — Optical scroll wheel and Gen-4 optical switches provide tactile feedback and durability up to 100 million clicks for consistent control during intense matches
  • LONG-LASTING BATTERY FOR EXTENDED PLAY — Up to 150 hours at 1000 Hz lets you game longer without interruptions, ideal for long sessions or tournament play

Its controls are gaming-focused, not productivity-focused

Razer lists six programmable controls and one onboard memory profile. The mouse has no tilt-scroll wheel or secondary scroll wheel, features RTINGS flags as drawbacks for work use. It can handle ordinary desktop pointing, but users who rely on extra wheel inputs or multiple stored profiles may find its controls restrictive.

8,000 Hz polling has a battery cost and is not essential for most buyers

Razer’s maximum battery estimates drop from up to 180 hours at 1,000 Hz to up to 45 hours at 8,000 Hz. TechRadar considers 8K polling unnecessary for most PC gamers. The maximum rate is best treated as an option for players who specifically value it, rather than a reason by itself to pay a premium.

Is the Viper V4 Pro worth buying?

It makes sense if you want a lightweight competitive mouse

  • You prefer a low-profile symmetrical shape and typically use a claw or fingertip grip.
  • Low weight and responsive performance matter more to you than quiet clicks or Bluetooth.
  • You are comfortable paying a premium for a specialist gaming mouse.
  • You can choose a polling rate that balances responsiveness with battery life.

Look elsewhere if the tradeoffs conflict with your needs

  • You need Bluetooth, a left-handed model, or quieter main clicks.
  • You prefer an ergonomic shape, more productivity controls, or multiple onboard profiles.
  • You would not use high polling rates and do not value the V4 Pro’s low weight enough to justify its cost.

Current Viper V3 Pro owners should weigh the incremental changes

RTINGS describes the V4 Pro as an iterative update to the V3 Pro, with modest sensor and motion-performance gains alongside lower weight, longer advertised battery life, and the optical scroll encoder. If you already own the V3 Pro, decide whether those specific refinements justify the cost of replacing a mouse that still meets your needs. A new buyer can judge the V4 Pro on its fit, features, and current local price instead.

Price and alternatives

TechRadar reported launch pricing of $159.99, £159.99, and AU$279.95. These are launch figures, not a guarantee of current prices or availability; check local retailers for the price and color options in your region before deciding. RTINGS notes that less expensive alternatives can approach the Viper’s performance, so compare fit and features as well as headline specifications. For example, the DeathAdder V4 Pro has a more ergonomic shape, while the Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE uses a different hump and click approach. Warranty and customer-service experience can also vary, so check regional support terms before purchase.
