Yes—the Razer Viper Ultimate is a strong FPS mouse, with low click latency in wired and wireless use and excellent sensor performance, according to RTINGS. The main question for most players is whether its shape suits their grip, particularly if they have larger hands and prefer palm or claw grip.
How well does it perform in FPS games?
RTINGS describes the Viper Ultimate as excellent for FPS games. Its review reports very low click latency in both wired and wireless modes, good sensor performance, and a relatively low weight. RTINGS says competitive players are unlikely to notice in-game delays.
Razer specifies a Focus+ optical sensor rated for up to 20,000 DPI, tracking speeds up to 650 inches per second, and acceleration up to 50 G. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a measure of how much better a player will perform. In practice, the RTINGS assessment supports the mouse as responsive enough for competitive play; it does not establish a performance advantage over other capable FPS mice. Razer’s Viper Ultimate specifications and the RTINGS review provide the underlying details.
Will the shape work for your hand and grip?
The Viper Ultimate has a true ambidextrous shape. RTINGS finds it suitable for fingertip grip across nearly all hand sizes. Grip fit is less universal for palm and claw: small and medium hands are more likely to find those grips comfortable, while larger hands may run into fit issues.
#1 Best Overall
- 25 percentage Quicker Than Competing Wireless Mice: Razer HyperSpeed wireless technology brings together extreme low-latency and interference reduction for true wireless freedom
- The Lightest, Zero-Compromise Wireless Esports Gaming Mouse at 74g: The Razer Viper Ultimate includes a 20K DPI optical sensor befitting the most serious gamers without the need for drilled holes
- Faster Than Traditional Mechanical Switches: New Razer optical mouse switches uses light beam-based actuation, registering button presses at the speed of light
- Ambidextrous Design: Created for left and right-handed users with accessible, programmable buttons on both sides
- 8 Programmable Buttons: Allows for reconfiguration and assignment of complex macro functions through Razer Synapse 3. Max Speed (IPS)-650
- Fingertip: The most broadly suitable grip for this shape, including across hand sizes.
- Palm or claw: More likely to work comfortably for small or medium hands; larger hands may find the fit less comfortable.
What do wireless, weight, and controls add?
You can use the mouse wired or connect through its 2.4 GHz wireless dongle. Razer lists a weight of approximately 74 g, excluding the cable, and eight independently programmable buttons. The relatively low weight and wireless option may suit players who want less cable drag, while the wired mode remains available when charging or when you prefer a cable.
Razer estimates approximately 70 hours of battery life with lighting off and says runtime depends on usage settings. Treat that as a manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed runtime for a particular FPS setup or session length. The official support specifications also identify the charging cable and compatibility with a Razer Mouse Charging Dock.

Does its polling rate matter for competitive play?
RTINGS lists the Viper Ultimate at up to 1000 Hz. Its comparison with the wired Viper 8KHz lists that model at up to 8000 Hz and says the higher rate produces more fluid cursor movement, but RTINGS notes that it has not tested that effect. The comparison therefore does not establish a measurable competitive advantage from 8000 Hz polling. The supported tradeoff is simpler: the Viper Ultimate offers wireless convenience, while the Viper 8KHz is wired and supports a higher maximum polling rate. See the RTINGS comparison.
What should you check before buying?
Package contents vary by version. RTINGS says its tested black version included a charging dock, and identifies black without the dock, Quartz Pink, Mercury White, and a Cyberpunk 2077 version as variants. Razer’s support material lists dock compatibility, but that does not mean every package includes one. Check the specific listing for the version and accessories you intend to buy; availability and package details can change.
