The Razer Viper 8KHz is a wired gaming mouse whose manufacturer specifies a maximum polling rate of 8,000 Hz. That setting can send up to 8,000 reports per second, but it does not guarantee a noticeable gameplay improvement on every computer or for every player. You can select six polling stages in Razer Synapse 3, and Razer recommends connecting the mouse directly to a USB port rather than through a hub or extender.
What the Razer Viper 8KHz is
Razer identifies the mouse as model RZ01-03580. It has an ambidextrous design, a wired connection, eight independently programmable buttons, and a 1.8 m (6 ft) Speedflex cable. Its Focus+ optical sensor is rated up to 20,000 DPI, 650 inches per second, and 50 G acceleration. Razer also lists a tactile scroll wheel and second-generation optical switches rated for 70 million clicks. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. What an 8,000 Hz polling rate means
Polling rate describes how often a mouse reports data to the computer. Razer describes 8,000 Hz as up to 8,000 reports per second, corresponding to a 0.125 ms interval between reports. A higher reporting frequency reduces the interval between reports on paper; it does not by itself establish that a person will see or feel a difference in a particular game, display, or computer setup. Razer’s published specifications do not provide independently verified, game-by-game comparisons of real-world performance.
Razer announced the mouse in 2021, with Senior Vice President Alvin Cheung arguing that latency had been overlooked by companies focused on increasing DPI. That is Cheung’s view in the company’s announcement, not independent evidence that the Viper 8KHz produces a universal gameplay advantage. Razer Newsroom announcement, January 28, 2021

Polling-rate stages you can choose
Razer lists six stages for the Viper 8KHz. Its product FAQ identifies 8,000 Hz as the default setting. Razer Viper 8KHz product page and FAQ

The intervals are calculated as 1,000 milliseconds divided by the polling rate; they describe the nominal spacing between reports, not a promise about end-to-end input latency.

How to configure the mouse
- Connect the Viper 8KHz to a USB port on your computer.
- Open Razer Synapse 3 and select the Viper 8KHz in the device list.
- Use the available Synapse controls to set a polling-rate stage, remap buttons, create macros, and configure lighting effects. The exact controls may depend on the installed Synapse version.

USB connection guidance and troubleshooting
Razer’s product guide recommends a direct connection to a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port to optimize polling. It warns that a USB hub, switch, or extender may affect performance. - If the mouse is connected through a hub, switch, or extender, connect it directly to the computer and check the setting again.
- Confirm the intended polling stage in Synapse 3 rather than assuming the mouse is using the default.
- If you are troubleshooting a reported rate, follow Razer’s direct-USB guidance; the published product materials do not establish that every computer or measurement tool will report identical results.
What the specifications do—and do not—tell you
The specifications establish what Razer claims about the model’s sensor, switches, buttons, cable, software support, and selectable polling rates. They do not establish present-day retail stock or price, nor do they prove that 8,000 Hz will produce a perceptible advantage in your particular game or setup. Treat the 8,000 Hz maximum and the 0.125 ms interval as manufacturer figures, not independent measurements. For a choice between polling stages, the useful practical question is whether the higher setting works reliably in your setup and feels worthwhile to you.
