To extend a wireless Razer gaming mouse’s battery life, open Synapse and shorten Wireless Power Saving, set a sensible Low Power Mode threshold, reduce or schedule lighting shutdown, and consider a lower polling rate if your model supports it. The first three changes usually preserve normal play; Low Power Mode deliberately reduces tracking performance, while polling rate trades reporting frequency for potentially lower power use. Razer does not publish universal hour or percentage savings for these controls, so treat them as practical adjustments rather than guaranteed runtime increases.
Start with these Synapse changes
If you want the shortest path to a longer interval between charges, apply the settings in this order:
- In Synapse, open your mouse and choose Power. Set Wireless Power Saving to a shorter idle interval, such as 1–5 minutes, if the mouse is often left untouched.
- In the same tab, set a Low Power Mode trigger high enough to leave time for charging, but only if you can accept slower tracking and reduced sensor acceleration when the threshold is reached.
- Open Lighting. Lower brightness and configure Switch Off Lighting for display-off or idle conditions.
- If your exact mouse offers the option, open Performance and test a lower polling-rate preset. Keep the highest rate that still feels right for your games.
These controls do different jobs. Sleep and lighting settings avoid power use during inactivity; Low Power Mode is a battery-reserve feature that changes tracking behavior; polling rate changes how frequently the mouse reports its position.
Check your Synapse version and mouse support first
The labels and available controls depend on the installed Synapse version and the specific mouse. Select the actual device shown on your Synapse Dashboard instead of following instructions for a different model.

Synapse 4
Synapse 4 is the current configuration path for devices that have moved from the older software. Select the mouse on the Dashboard, then use the device’s Power, Lighting and, where available, Performance tabs.
Synapse 3 status
Razer says Synapse 3 stopped receiving updates and cloud services on February 3, 2026. Installed devices can still be configured in Synapse 3 according to Razer’s power-preferences guidance. However, if you completely uninstall Synapse 3, a device that needs continued customization requires Synapse 4. Do not uninstall the older application while troubleshooting unless you have confirmed that your mouse is supported in Synapse 4 and you are ready to migrate.
Use Wireless Power Saving to make the mouse sleep sooner
Where to find it
- Open Synapse 4 and select your mouse from the Dashboard.
- Open the Power tab.
- Find Wireless Power Saving.
- Move the idle-time slider to the interval you want and save or apply the change if Synapse presents an Apply button.
Razer documents a range of 1 to 15 minutes and says the feature is enabled by default. A one-minute setting lets the mouse sleep quickly after inactivity; a longer setting avoids sleep while you are pausing briefly between tasks. Choose the shortest interval that does not interrupt the way you work or play.
This setting matters most when the mouse spends substantial time idle: at a desk between meetings, while watching video, or when a game is open but you are not moving the pointer. It cannot reduce consumption while you are actively moving the mouse.
What sleep looks like
Razer says that when the mouse sleeps it automatically disconnects and disappears from the Synapse Dashboard. That disappearance is expected behavior, not proof that the mouse has failed. Move the mouse or use its normal wake action, then allow a moment for the wireless connection and dashboard entry to return.

Razer does not publish a measured number of additional hours for each slider position. The defensible expectation is simply that an earlier sleep avoids some idle power use; the amount depends on how often your mouse is inactive and on the model’s hardware.
Set Low Power Mode as a reserve, not a free performance setting
Configure the threshold
- With the mouse selected, stay in Power.
- Locate Low Power Mode.
- Choose the battery percentage at which it activates.
Razer documents an adjustable trigger range of 5% to 100%. A low threshold leaves more of the battery at normal performance but gives you less warning before charging. A higher threshold protects a larger reserve and can be useful if your charging cable is not nearby.
Understand the trade-off
Low Power Mode reduces tracking speed and sensor acceleration to save power. It is therefore not performance-neutral. Cursor movement can feel different, and fast or precise game control may be affected after the threshold is reached. Competitive players may prefer a lower trigger and a charging routine, while a user who frequently forgets to charge may prefer a higher trigger and accept the reduced tracking behavior as an emergency measure.
Do not describe Low Power Mode as a way to retain exactly the same sensor response on a nearly empty battery. Its purpose is to change that response so the mouse can conserve power. Test the chosen threshold in a noncompetitive game or on the desktop before relying on it during a tournament or ranked session.
Turn down lighting and switch it off automatically
Lower brightness
- Select the mouse in Synapse.
- Open the Lighting tab.
- Reduce the brightness level to the lowest setting that remains useful, or disable lighting entirely.
Lighting is visible power consumption that provides no tracking benefit. Lowering it, or turning it off, avoids that load whenever illumination is not important to you.

Use Switch Off Lighting
In the Lighting tab, open Switch Off Lighting. On supported Synapse 3 and Synapse 4 devices, you can turn lighting off when the display is turned off or after an idle interval of 1 to 15 minutes. Choose display-off if you want lighting only while you are actively using the computer; choose an idle timer if you want the mouse lights to go dark while the display remains on.

Lighting controls are independent of the mouse’s wireless sleep timer. A mouse can have its LEDs off while still awake, or it can sleep after the Wireless Power Saving interval. Configure both if you want to avoid illumination during idle periods and also disconnect the radio sooner.
Razer’s instructions do not attach a universal battery-hour gain to a particular brightness level or switch-off timer. The practical benefit is avoiding unnecessary illumination, with the actual effect determined by the model’s LEDs, firmware and usage pattern.
Consider polling rate only after the easy changes
What polling rate controls
Polling rate is the number of times per second the mouse reports its position to the computer. A higher rate can provide more frequent updates, while a lower available preset reduces the reporting frequency. Synapse 4 places this control under Performance for supported mice, and Razer says the choices vary by model.
How to test a lower setting
- Select the mouse and open Performance.
- Find the polling-rate selector. If it is not present, your model or current connection does not expose this control.
- Choose the next lower available preset rather than jumping immediately to the minimum.
- Move the pointer, test a familiar game and check for any change in smoothness, aiming or input feel.
- Keep the lower rate only if the response remains acceptable; otherwise restore the previous preset.
There is no universal battery saving figure for a polling-rate change. The effect depends on the mouse, firmware, wireless system and the selected rate. Razer’s own Viper V2 Pro specifications illustrate why the setting can matter: the company lists up to 90 hours at 1,000 Hz and up to 17 hours at 8,000 Hz for that model. Those are manufacturer figures for the Viper V2 Pro, published by Razer in 2026, not an independent test and not a promise for another mouse or for every user.

Because polling rate changes reporting behavior during active use, it is a more noticeable trade-off than an idle sleep timer. Start with Wireless Power Saving and lighting, then evaluate polling rate only when you need additional runtime or your model’s stated figures make the trade-off worthwhile.
Compare the available controls before choosing a compromise

The table describes the direction of each trade-off, not a guaranteed number of hours. Razer has not published universal measured savings for these controls.

Desktop users who often walk away
Set Wireless Power Saving near the short end of its 1–15 minute range and use Switch Off Lighting after a similar idle period. This combination targets the time the mouse spends untouched without changing active tracking.
Players who cannot tolerate altered tracking
Leave Low Power Mode at a low trigger or avoid relying on it during play. Keep your normal polling rate unless testing shows a lower preset is acceptable. Use the sleep timer and lighting controls first, because they do not deliberately reduce tracking speed or sensor acceleration while you are playing.
Users who need a reserve before finding a charger
Choose a higher Low Power Mode threshold, understanding that the mouse will enter reduced-performance behavior earlier. Pair that setting with automatic lighting shutoff and a reasonable sleep interval so the reserve is not consumed by avoidable idle use.

Owners of a high-polling-rate model
Check the manufacturer’s specification for your exact model, then compare the available presets in Synapse. The Viper V2 Pro’s 90-hour-at-1,000-Hz and 17-hour-at-8,000-Hz figures show that polling conditions can coincide with very different stated runtimes on one product, but they do not establish the result for another mouse. Test the next lower preset and keep it only if your games still feel right.
Troubleshoot unexpected behavior after changing settings
The mouse disappears from Synapse
That is expected when Wireless Power Saving puts it to sleep. Wake the mouse and wait for it to reconnect. If it does not return, check the physical power switch, wireless receiver connection and battery charge before assuming the setting caused a fault.
Tracking feels slower or different
Check whether Low Power Mode has activated. Its documented behavior includes reduced tracking speed and sensor acceleration. Charge the mouse or lower the trigger, then retest. If the change occurred immediately after a polling-rate adjustment, restore the previous preset and compare again.

Synapse exposes controls according to the selected device and software version. Confirm that the correct mouse is selected, update or migrate only when your model is supported, and do not assume that every Razer wireless mouse offers polling-rate selection or every lighting option.
Battery life still seems poor
Record the conditions of your own use: polling rate, lighting state, hours of active movement, idle periods, and how often Low Power Mode activates. Razer’s published guidance does not provide a universal runtime calculator, so a model-specific specification and your usage pattern are more useful than a generic percentage claim. If runtime has sharply deteriorated compared with the mouse’s earlier behavior, inspect the cable, charging connection and battery condition; the Synapse sliders cannot repair degraded hardware.
What to expect from these settings
Synapse gives you control over when the mouse sleeps, when lighting is active, what happens at a low charge, and—on supported models—how often movement is reported. The safest battery-first sequence is to shorten idle sleep, automate lighting shutoff and lower brightness. Add Low Power Mode when you value a reserve more than unchanged tracking, and test polling-rate reductions only with the exact mouse and games you use. Since Razer publishes no universal measured savings for these adjustments, judge success by your own charge interval and by whether the resulting input feel remains acceptable.
