Choose the Razer Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed if gaming latency, console support, and one headset for PC and handheld play are your priorities. Its included 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed dongle is rated by Razer for audio latency below 40 ms and is specified to work with PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and PC. Bluetooth Gaming Mode is rated at about 60 ms.
Choose AirPods Pro 3 if everyday listening, Apple-device integration, noise control, and spatial audio matter more than the lowest possible gaming delay. Apple lists the H2 chip, Bluetooth 5.3, IP57 dust/sweat/water resistance, and up to eight hours of listening with ANC enabled. AirPods can work as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but Apple warns that functionality may be limited.
Quick verdict
| What matters most | Better choice | Why |
|---|---|---|

This comparison pairs the Razer Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed with AirPods Pro 3. They are designed around different priorities. Razer builds around a low-latency 2.4 GHz wireless link in addition to Bluetooth, while Apple builds around a Bluetooth connection and tightly integrated listening features for its own devices.

That distinction matters more than the word “earbuds.” A Bluetooth connection can be perfectly adequate for music, video, calls, and slower-paced games, but a competitive game exposes delay between an on-screen event and the sound reaching your ears. A dedicated gaming link is intended to reduce that delay and avoid some of Bluetooth’s platform restrictions.
Model and generation also matter. RTINGS’ direct comfort, sound, and latency comparison cited here tested the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless 2019 and an earlier AirPods Pro generation. A separate RTINGS test assessed AirPods Pro 2 microphone and gaming behavior. Those measurements are useful evidence about the product families’ trade-offs, not proof that every current model performs identically.
Gaming latency: the deciding difference
Razer’s 2.4 GHz dongle
Razer says the Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed’s USB dongle provides “industry-leading” low-latency audio of less than 40 ms. That is a manufacturer claim from Razer’s 2023 product announcement, not an independent measurement. The important part for a player is the connection method: the dongle creates a dedicated wireless path for game audio instead of relying solely on Bluetooth.

For a shooter, rhythm game, racing title, or any game where sound cues need to line up closely with action, this is the Razer’s clearest advantage. You connect the dongle to the gaming device, select the earbuds as the audio output if necessary, and keep the earbuds on the dongle’s wireless mode. Using Bluetooth instead removes the main reason to buy this model.
Bluetooth Gaming Mode
Razer also specifies a Bluetooth Gaming Mode of about 60 ms. That is slower than the dongle’s claimed figure but potentially useful when you are playing on a device where the USB transmitter is inconvenient or unavailable. Treat it as a compromise: it is a gaming-oriented Bluetooth setting, not a replacement for the dedicated link when timing is critical.
What independent testing says about AirPods latency
RTINGS found that an older Razer Hammerhead True Wireless model had lower latency than AirPods Pro on non-iOS devices when Gaming Mode was enabled. The test does not establish that AirPods are unusable for every game, nor does it measure AirPods Pro 3 in every current operating system. It does establish a consistent buying rule: standard Bluetooth AirPods are the riskier choice for latency-sensitive gaming, particularly on Windows and game consoles.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
On Apple hardware, the experience can be different because Apple controls the operating system, audio stack, and earbuds together. That integration may make ordinary use feel smoother, but it does not turn AirPods Pro 3 into a 2.4 GHz gaming headset. If a game’s timing is your top concern, choose the Razer dongle.

| Platform or use | Razer Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed | AirPods Pro 3 |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation | Razer specifies support through the HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz dongle. | Bluetooth-headset use is not presented by Apple as a console gaming feature; compatibility and available functions depend on the console and any adapter. |
| Nintendo Switch | Razer specifies support through the dongle. | Can function as Bluetooth headphones where the Switch and game support the connection, but gaming latency and available controls can vary. |
| Steam Deck | Razer specifies support through the dongle. | Bluetooth pairing is possible, but Apple notes that non-Apple functionality may be limited. |
| Windows PC | Use the dongle for the lowest latency; Bluetooth is the fallback. | Bluetooth pairing is possible, but platform features and controls are more limited than on Apple devices. |
| iPhone, iPad, or Mac | Bluetooth is available, while the dongle is useful only where the device accepts the transmitter. | AirPods Pro 3 are designed for this ecosystem and expose the broadest feature set here. |
Razer’s wording says “PlayStation,” not a particular console revision, so check the current console, USB-port, and regional compatibility information before purchasing. The same caution applies to handheld docks and USB-C adapters. The underlying advantage remains the same: Razer supplies a gaming transmitter rather than asking the console to treat the earbuds as ordinary Bluetooth headphones.
Everyday listening, ANC, and spatial audio
AirPods Pro 3’s listening feature set
Apple lists the H2 chip, Bluetooth 5.3, Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Audio, Transparency mode, and Personalized Spatial Audio for AirPods Pro 3. Those features make the earbuds particularly attractive when you move between music, podcasts, calls, travel, and Apple-device use throughout the day.
Adaptive Audio is intended to balance noise reduction and environmental awareness, while Transparency is designed for hearing what is around you without removing the earbuds. Personalized Spatial Audio adds a head-tracked, immersive presentation for supported content and devices. These are everyday-use advantages, not gaming-latency features.
Razer’s adjustable hybrid ANC
The Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed also offers adjustable hybrid ANC. That gives you a way to reduce outside noise while listening or playing, and to tune the amount of isolation to your environment. Razer’s cited announcement emphasizes the ANC and gaming connection, but it does not provide an independent ANC score that can be compared numerically with Apple’s implementation.

Microphone and voice chat
Do not buy either model on the assumption that its microphone automatically wins. RTINGS described the microphone on the tested AirPods Pro 2 as sub-par, with thin or muffled speech and weak separation from loud, continuous noise. That is an independent finding about AirPods Pro 2, not a measured result for AirPods Pro 3.
Razer’s product announcement highlights connectivity and ANC but does not publish an independent microphone score. Therefore, there is no evidence in the cited material for claiming that the Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed decisively beats AirPods Pro 3 for voice chat. In a quiet room, either may be adequate; in a loud room, your voice-chat result will depend on the current model’s microphone processing, fit, game or chat application, and nearby noise.
For important team communication, test the microphone on the exact platform you will use. Record a short sample with game audio playing, then ask teammates whether consonants remain clear and whether continuous fan or room noise is being transmitted. This check is more reliable than assuming that a gaming label guarantees broadcast-quality speech.
Battery life: compare the right numbers
AirPods Pro 3
Apple rates AirPods Pro 3 for up to eight hours of listening on one charge with ANC enabled. “Up to” is a laboratory-style manufacturer rating: actual runtime changes with volume, wireless features, fit, temperature, and how often the microphones and radios are active.
Razer Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed
Razer’s cited announcement specifies an additional 24 hours of battery in the charging case. It does not give a directly comparable single-charge listening figure in that announcement. Do not treat the case total as the same measurement as Apple’s per-charge rating. If all-day use is decisive, check the current product specification for the exact regional model and compare both the earbuds’ per-charge runtime and the case’s additional capacity.
In practical terms, AirPods Pro 3 present the clearer single-session number, while Razer communicates a case reserve rather than the same pair of figures. Neither number guarantees a particular number of gaming sessions.

Fit, comfort, and sound: what the testing can and cannot tell you
RTINGS’ comparison of the older Hammerhead True Wireless 2019 and AirPods Pro found the AirPods more comfortable, more premium, and better balanced in sound. The same comparison found the older Razer listening experience slightly more consistent and its Gaming Mode latency lower on non-iOS devices.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThose conclusions depend on the tested generations, ear tips, fit, software, and source device. They should not be generalized blindly to Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed versus AirPods Pro 3. Ear shape can reverse a comfort ranking: a stable seal may make one model sound fuller and block more noise, while a poor seal can make any ANC or bass response seem disappointing.
When comparing them in person, use the same track at the same volume, wear each pair for at least 20 minutes, and walk or turn your head. Check whether the seal changes when you speak or chew. For gaming, test positional cues in the game you actually play rather than relying only on music.
How to use the Razer earbuds for gaming
PlayStation, Switch, Steam Deck, or PC with the dongle
- Insert the HyperSpeed USB dongle into a compatible USB port on the console, handheld, dock, or PC. Use the appropriate USB-C or USB-A connection supplied or supported by your setup.
- Power on the earbuds and select their 2.4 GHz wireless connection mode rather than ordinary Bluetooth.
- Open the device’s audio settings and choose the Razer earbuds as the output and, where available, chat-input device.
- Launch a game and check that sound effects, voice chat, and system audio all route through the earbuds. If chat is missing, review the console or game’s separate output and microphone selections.
- Keep the dongle unobstructed and close to the play position. If you must use Bluetooth instead, enable Razer’s Gaming Mode and expect more delay than with the dedicated link.
Menu names differ by firmware and platform, so the exact audio path can change. The key decision is always the same: use the dongle for latency-sensitive play and Bluetooth when convenience matters more.
Bluetooth use
- Put the earbuds into Bluetooth pairing mode according to the current Razer quick-start instructions.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the phone, tablet, computer, or handheld and select the Razer earbuds.
- For games, enable Gaming Mode if the device and Razer software expose that option.
- When returning to console play, reconnect the dongle and verify the active connection mode before starting a competitive session.
How to use AirPods Pro 3 for gaming and daily listening
Apple devices
- Open the AirPods case near the iPhone, iPad, or Mac and follow the pairing prompt.
- Confirm the AirPods are selected as the audio output in the device’s sound controls or the game’s audio settings.
- Choose Noise Cancellation, Transparency, or Adaptive Audio for the environment, and enable Personalized Spatial Audio where supported content and device settings provide it.
- For games, play a short section before a competitive match. If you notice timing that distracts you, use a wired or dedicated low-latency gaming solution instead of treating Bluetooth earbuds as latency-free.
Non-Apple devices
AirPods Pro 3 can be used as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but Apple explicitly warns that functionality may be limited. Pair them from the device’s Bluetooth menu, then verify audio output, microphone input, touch controls, battery reporting, and available noise-control modes. Do not assume every Apple-specific feature or control will transfer to Windows, Android, a handheld, or a console.

Which one is better for specific buyers?
Choose Razer Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed when…
- You play timing-sensitive games and want the lowest-delay wireless option in this comparison.
- You need one pair to work with PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and PC through a dedicated transmitter.
- You want adjustable hybrid ANC without giving up a gaming-focused connection.
- You regularly move between a console dongle and Bluetooth devices and accept that Razer’s published battery figures are less directly comparable to Apple’s.
Choose AirPods Pro 3 when…
- Your main use is music, podcasts, calls, travel, and work rather than competitive gaming.
- You use an iPhone, iPad, or Mac and value H2 processing, Adaptive Audio, Transparency, and Personalized Spatial Audio.
- You want Apple’s published per-charge estimate of up to eight hours with ANC enabled.
- You can tolerate Bluetooth gaming latency or mostly play slower-paced titles.
Consider a different category when…
- You need a microphone that has been independently measured for noisy team-chat environments.
- You require a wired connection, platform-certified console chat, or a documented microphone monitoring feature.
- You need guaranteed low latency on a device that cannot accept the Razer transmitter and cannot provide a suitable Bluetooth gaming mode.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: comparing the case total with per-charge runtime
Razer’s additional 24-hour case figure and Apple’s eight-hour ANC figure measure different parts of the battery system. Compare earbud runtime with earbud runtime, then compare case reserve separately.

Mistake: assuming Bluetooth is equally fast on every platform
Latency depends on the operating system, codec path, game, and connection mode. Use the Razer dongle for the intended low-latency result. Treat AirPods as ordinary Bluetooth headphones on non-Apple devices unless your own testing proves otherwise.
Mistake: treating an older independent test as a current-model specification
The RTINGS comfort, sound, and latency comparison involved an older Hammerhead generation and an earlier AirPods Pro. The AirPods microphone test involved AirPods Pro 2. Use those results to understand trade-offs, not to claim a measured score for the current earbuds.
Mistake: buying on the gaming label alone
A gaming product can still have a microphone that does not suit a noisy room, and everyday earbuds can still be perfectly enjoyable for casual games. Decide whether latency, voice clarity, comfort, ANC, ecosystem features, or cross-platform support is your non-negotiable requirement.
Bottom line
For gaming, the Razer Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed is the stronger choice because its dedicated 2.4 GHz dongle is built for low-latency play and broad console, handheld, and PC support. For everyday listening, especially inside Apple’s ecosystem, AirPods Pro 3 are the more capable all-rounders thanks to their H2-based features, ANC modes, spatial audio, IP57 rating, and clearly stated eight-hour ANC listening rating. Choose according to the connection and ecosystem you will use most, not simply the brand name or the number of features on the box.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do AirPods Pro 3 have too much lag for PC gaming?
They can work for casual PC gaming over Bluetooth, but Bluetooth AirPods are a weaker choice for latency-sensitive play. Independent testing of an older AirPods Pro generation found higher latency than an older Razer Hammerhead model on non-iOS devices with Gaming Mode enabled. Test your own games before relying on them competitively.
Can I use Razer Hammerhead Pro HyperSpeed earbuds on PS5 or Switch?
Razer specifies the HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz dongle for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Check the current console, dock, USB-port, and regional compatibility details, then select the earbuds as the system audio output after connecting the transmitter.
Are AirPods Pro 3 worth it for everyday listening?
They are the better fit when you value Apple-device integration, ANC, Adaptive Audio, Transparency, Personalized Spatial Audio, and up to eight hours of ANC listening per charge. Their advantages are less compelling if your main requirement is dedicated low-latency console gaming.
