The Razer DeathAdder Essential is a wired, right-handed gaming mouse with five programmable buttons and a 6,400 DPI optical sensor. Its straightforward design may suit someone who wants a conventional wired mouse, but it is a poor fit if you need wireless use, a left-handed shape, or profiles stored on the mouse: Razer says it has no onboard memory.

What you get with the current DeathAdder Essential

Razer’s current support specifications are for model RZ01-03850 and were marked updated 10 September 2026. The separate legacy model, RZ01-02540, has different listed dimensions, so check the model number before relying on detailed specifications.

Feature Razer’s current specification for RZ01-03850
Connection and cable Wired; standard 1.8 m cable
Shape Ergonomic, right-handed design
Sensor Optical; up to 6,400 DPI
Tracking figures Up to 220 inches per second and 30 G
Buttons Five independently programmable Hyperesponse buttons
Software and onboard storage Synapse support; no onboard memory
Switch rating Mechanical switches rated by Razer for up to 10 million clicks
Approximate size 127 mm long × 61.7 mm wide × 42.7 mm high
Approximate weight 96 g, excluding cable
Lighting by color Black: single-color green lighting; white: single-color white lighting

These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. DPI is a sensitivity setting ceiling; it does not, by itself, establish tracking accuracy or quality. Likewise, the 220 IPS and 30 G figures describe Razer’s stated sensor capabilities, not measured performance in a comparative test. The switch figure is a rating, not a guarantee that an individual mouse will reach that lifespan. Razer Support: DeathAdder Essential specifications and FAQ.

What are the main pros?

Five programmable buttons give you extra inputs

Razer lists five independently programmable buttons. That provides more configurable inputs than a basic three-button layout, which can be useful if you want side-button actions for games or everyday shortcuts. The specification alone does not show that the layout will improve performance; placement and usefulness depend on how you use a mouse.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

A wired connection needs no charging or pairing

The standard 1.8 m cable means there is no battery to charge and no wireless pairing step. In return, a cable can limit placement and movement compared with a wireless mouse.

The published sensor figures are clear

The current specification lists a 6,400 DPI optical sensor and tracking capability up to 220 IPS / 30 G. These numbers provide a concrete feature description, but they are not a substitute for independent tracking or latency measurements.

The shape is explicitly designed for right-handed use

Razer describes the mouse as ergonomic and right-handed. That makes its intended orientation clear, but comfort is personal: hand size, grip style, and preference all matter, and the available specifications do not establish how comfortable it will feel to you.

What are the main cons and trade-offs?

No onboard memory means settings do not travel with the mouse

Razer Support answers the onboard-memory question directly: “No, the Razer DeathAdder Essential does not come with onboard memory.” If you want profiles saved to the mouse for use across computers without depending on software, this is a meaningful limitation. Razer lists Synapse support, but software support is not the same thing as onboard profile storage. Razer Support: DeathAdder Essential FAQ.

It is wired and right-handed only

The cable rules it out if wireless hardware is a requirement. Its stated right-handed ergonomic design is also a poor match if you specifically need a left-handed mouse shape.

Comfort and competitive performance are not established by the specs

The published specifications do not establish measured comfort, sensor tracking quality in testing, or click latency relative to other mice. Treat those as open questions rather than proven strengths when deciding whether it suits your hand or competitive use.

Check the model number before comparing dimensions

Razer’s current RZ01-03850 page lists approximate dimensions of 127 × 61.7 × 42.7 mm. Its legacy RZ01-02540 support page lists 127 × 73 × 44 mm. Those dimensions are not interchangeable; a listing or review that does not identify the model may be describing a different version. The legacy page also lists 1000 Hz ultrapolling and Xbox One basic input compatibility, claims that should not be transferred to the current model without confirmation for RZ01-03850. Is the DeathAdder Essential worth it?

It is worth considering if you want a conventional wired, right-handed mouse with side buttons and are comfortable relying on software rather than storing settings onboard. Its listed sensor and button specifications are straightforward, but they do not prove superior tracking, comfort, or gaming results. Skip it if wireless use, left-handed ergonomics, or onboard profiles are essential to your setup. Check the exact model number and current regional availability before buying; price and stock vary and are not established here.
