Choose RayNeo GT if your priority is a brighter, lighter display with native Steady, Pinned and Follow screen positioning. Choose XREAL Air 2 Pro if you need electrochromic dimming, a bundled light shield, documented prescription-lens support and simple external-display use with phones, consoles and computers. Both glasses offer a 46° field of view and 1920×1080-per-eye-class viewing, so everyday usability depends more on light control, anchoring, fit and accessory costs than on resolution.

RayNeo GT and XREAL Air 2 Pro at a glance

These are tethered display glasses: they receive video from a compatible USB-C or adapter-equipped device and show a large virtual screen in front of your eyes. Neither product should be treated as a self-contained wireless computer. The practical choice is whether you want RayNeo’s higher stated brightness and built-in 3DoF positioning, or XREAL’s better control of surrounding light and more clearly documented prescription path.

Category RayNeo GT XREAL Air 2 Pro

Prescription support Not documented in the cited RayNeo material Detachable prescription frame; insert routes documented by XREAL
Prices cited $299 in the 2026 review $249 on the US product page, which displayed stock-notification messaging

Brightness numbers are not directly comparable laboratory measurements. RayNeo labels 1,200 nits as perceived brightness and separately lists 336 nits for Pinned mode, while XREAL states a maximum of 500 nits. Treat the figures as product specifications for different modes, not as a guaranteed head-to-head measurement under identical conditions.

Which glasses are better for common everyday-screen jobs?

Desk work and multiple-window reading

RayNeo GT has the stronger starting point for text-heavy work when you want the virtual screen to stay in a chosen place. Its native 3DoF chip provides Steady, Pinned and Follow behavior without an additional spatial accessory. The independent review describes sharp text, no noticed edge blur and comfortable wear. Steady or Pinned can make a document or browser window feel less tied to small head movements, while Follow keeps the image aligned with your viewing direction.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

XREAL Air 2 Pro can still serve as a large laptop or desktop monitor through a compatible video connection. However, the glasses alone are documented primarily as an external display; Body Anchor and Smooth Follow require the separate Beam Pro device. That extra hardware matters if your work routine depends on a screen that remains fixed in virtual space rather than simply mirroring the host device.

Watching video in changing light

Air 2 Pro is the easier choice in a bright room, on a commute or near a window because its lenses can switch among 0%, 35% and 100% electrochromic dimming, and a light shield is included. You can reduce the visual competition from the room without buying another accessory.

GT has no electrochromic dimming and does not ship with a lens cover, according to the cited review. RayNeo sells a separate $19 lens shade. In controlled indoor lighting, GT’s stated non-Pinned brightness can be useful; in direct sunlight, the missing built-in light control can be more consequential than the peak specification.

Gaming from a console or handheld

Both models are intended to work with common gaming hosts when the host can output video through the required connection. RayNeo lists PS4, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck compatibility, in addition to laptops and desktop PCs. XREAL’s support documentation describes Air 2 as an external display for phones, consoles and PCs, with compatibility depending on the host’s video output.

For a Switch or console setup, Air 2 Pro’s light shield and dimming levels are convenient when you move between rooms. GT’s lower reviewed weight and native positioning can be preferable for long sessions, provided the room lighting does not overwhelm the image and your connection supplies the needed video signal.

Portable phone viewing

USB-C phones that support video output are the simplest hosts for either model. RayNeo specifically lists USB-C devices and notes that Lightning iPhones and older iPads require Apple’s Digital AV Adapter. XREAL likewise makes host video output the deciding compatibility condition, so a phone with USB-C does not automatically guarantee a working display connection.

Display quality and readability

Resolution, field of view and refresh

Each glass uses a 46° field of view and a 1920×1080-per-eye display class. That gives both a similar nominal canvas size and enough pixel density for ordinary documents, menus and video when the glasses are correctly positioned on your face. RayNeo’s product page specifies up to 120Hz for 2D content and 60Hz for 3D; XREAL lists up to 120Hz in 2D.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The shared field of view means neither model creates a dramatically wider scene than the other. Your perceived workspace will be affected more by how well the nose bridge and temples fit, whether the image is anchored, and how much ambient light reaches your eyes.

Brightness: why the headline numbers need context

RayNeo lists 1,200 nits in non-Pinned modes and 336 nits in Pinned mode. XREAL lists up to 500 nits. RayNeo identifies its figure as perceived brightness, while XREAL does not use the same mode labels in the cited specification. Consequently, GT should not automatically be described as 2.4 times brighter in an apples-to-apples sense.

In practice, GT’s higher non-Pinned figure favors readability when you cannot fully darken the room. Air 2 Pro’s dimming and shield can produce the better viewing result in a bright environment even with a lower stated maximum, because reducing competing light improves contrast at your eyes.

Color and contrast information

RayNeo lists 200,000:1 contrast, 98% DCI-P3 coverage, 145% sRGB coverage and Delta E below 2. Those figures indicate a specification-focused display suitable for photos, video and color-sensitive interface work, although they do not replace a calibrated monitor for professional color grading. The cited XREAL page provides resolution, refresh, brightness and lens-control details but does not state equivalent gamut or Delta E figures.

Spatial anchoring: native modes versus an add-on

RayNeo GT modes

  • Steady: the native 3DoF system reduces apparent movement as you turn your head, helping a screen feel stable.
  • Pinned: places the virtual screen in a fixed position relative to your surroundings; RayNeo lists 336 nits for this mode.
  • Follow: keeps the screen aligned with your viewing direction rather than leaving it fixed in the room.

These modes are part of GT itself, so the glasses can provide spatial behavior without buying RayNeo’s Pocket TV Pro. The trade-off is that the product page’s lower Pinned-mode brightness is the relevant figure when you choose that anchoring behavior.

XREAL Air 2 Pro and Beam Pro

Air 2 Pro works as a straightforward external display on its own. XREAL states that Body Anchor and Smooth Follow require Beam Pro. If you want those spatial modes, include Beam Pro in your budget and carry setup; the glasses alone do not provide the same documented anchoring feature set as GT.

Ambient-light control and wearing comfort

Air 2 Pro’s dimming system

The electrochromic lenses offer three selectable states: clear at 0%, partially shaded at 35% and fully shaded at 100%. The included light shield adds physical blocking when you want the virtual image to dominate your vision. This combination is useful for offices, airplanes, living rooms and other places where light levels change during the day.

GT’s lighter frame and shade requirement

Tom’s Guide measured the GT at 68g (2.4 ounces), compared with XREAL’s listed 75g. That 7g difference is small on paper but can matter over a long work session, particularly if the nose bridge or temple pressure is already close to your tolerance. GT lacks electrochromic dimming and ships without a lens cover in the cited review; RayNeo’s separate lens shade costs $19.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Weight alone does not determine comfort. Temple shape, nose fit, cable routing and the angle of the display all affect whether you can keep the glasses on for hours. Try the included nose pieces and adjust the frame before judging sharpness: a slight tilt can make one edge look soft even when the panel itself is resolving text correctly.

Prescription lenses and eye-comfort documentation

Air 2 Pro has a detachable prescription-lens frame. XREAL’s support material documents three routes: prescription inserts through Lensology, Rochester Optical or a locally made insert. Confirm availability and prescription limits with the provider serving your country before ordering, because the cited documentation does not establish identical service coverage in every region.

XREAL also records TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, flicker-free operation, color accuracy and eye comfort, plus a one-year warranty. These certifications describe tested characteristics; they are not a guarantee that every wearer will avoid fatigue or headaches.

The cited RayNeo material does not document a prescription-insert program or equivalent TÜV Rheinland certifications. If you need corrective lenses, treat Air 2 Pro as the lower-risk purchase based on the available documentation, and verify the insert’s fit with your own prescription.

Device compatibility and connection checklist

RayNeo GT hosts

RayNeo lists USB-C devices, HDMI devices, PS4, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, laptops and desktop PCs. A USB-C port must support video output; a charging-only port will not create an image. Lightning iPhones and older iPads need Apple’s Digital AV Adapter, and an appropriate HDMI-to-USB-C display adapter may still be required for the glasses’ connector.

XREAL Air 2 Pro hosts

XREAL describes the glasses as an external display for phones, consoles and PCs. Compatibility depends on the host’s video output, so check the exact phone, tablet, laptop or console model before buying. A USB-C connector’s physical shape is not proof that DisplayPort video is available.

Pre-purchase connection test

  1. Identify the device you will use most often and check whether its USB-C port supports DisplayPort video or whether it provides HDMI output.
  2. For an iPhone with a Lightning connector or an older iPad, plan on Apple’s Digital AV Adapter and the required downstream display adapter.
  3. For consoles and handhelds, confirm the console’s dock or adapter can deliver video to the glasses; the product listings do not imply that every cable or dock will work.
  4. Decide whether you need only a mirrored screen or a spatial mode. Air 2 Pro’s Body Anchor and Smooth Follow require Beam Pro; GT’s Steady, Pinned and Follow modes are built in.
  5. Keep the return policy and regional warranty terms accessible until you have tested the actual host-device combination.

Accessory requirements and total purchase cost

Use case RayNeo GT items to budget XREAL Air 2 Pro items to budget
Basic external display Glasses and a compatible USB-C/HDMI connection; exact cable needs depend on the host Glasses and a compatible USB-C/HDMI connection; exact cable needs depend on the host
Better light blocking Optional $19 lens shade; no electrochromic dimming Included light shield plus three electrochromic levels

Dolby Vision access Pocket TV Pro is required; the cited review lists it as a separate $199 device Not stated in the cited Air 2 Pro material
Prescription setup Prescription support not stated in the cited material Detachable frame and documented insert providers; insert price not stated

The cited prices are snapshots, not permanent list prices. Tom’s Guide recorded GT at $299 in its 2026 review. XREAL’s US page listed Air 2 Pro at $249 while showing stock-notification messaging. Check your country’s current price, tax, shipping, stock and bundle contents before comparing totals. A nominally cheaper Air 2 Pro can cost more if you add Beam Pro or prescription inserts; GT’s total can rise if you need a shade or Pocket TV Pro for the features you want.

Step-by-step setup for a first screen session

Set up either model as a monitor

  1. Charge or power the host device and install any required display adapter before connecting the glasses.
  2. Connect the glasses to a video-capable USB-C port, or use the appropriate HDMI adapter for a console or computer.
  3. Put on the glasses and adjust the nose bridge and temple position until text is sharp in the center and near the edges.
  4. Set the host to a comfortable resolution and text scale. The glasses can show a 1920×1080-per-eye image, but your operating system may choose a different output mode.
  5. Move through a document, browser and video before deciding whether the fit or the display is the source of any blur.

Configure GT positioning

  1. Start with Steady for a screen that should feel stable while you look around.
  2. Use Pinned when you want the virtual display to remain in a location in the room; expect the mode-specific 336-nit specification rather than the 1,200-nit non-Pinned figure.
  3. Use Follow when you prefer the screen to stay aligned with your head direction.
  4. If the room is bright, add the separate lens shade and reposition yourself away from direct windows or lamps.

Configure Air 2 Pro light control

  1. Begin at 0% dimming in a dark room so you can judge the image without unnecessary tint.
  2. Switch to 35% when reflections or room light reduce contrast.
  3. Use 100% and the included light shield when you need maximum isolation from the surroundings.
  4. If you need Body Anchor or Smooth Follow, connect and configure Beam Pro; those modes are not provided by the glasses alone.

Common problems and practical fixes

No image appears

  • Confirm that the host USB-C port supports video output rather than charging only.
  • For HDMI sources, verify that the adapter is designed for display output to USB-C glasses, not merely USB-C charging.
  • On a Lightning iPhone or older iPad, add Apple’s Digital AV Adapter and the necessary display connection.
  • Test a second known-compatible host to separate a glasses issue from a device or adapter issue.

Text looks soft or one side is unclear

  • Re-seat the glasses and adjust the nose bridge so both pupils sit in the optical sweet spot.
  • Check that the frame is level; a slight rotation can make one edge appear blurred.
  • Increase the host’s text scale instead of relying on very small fonts.
  • If you use prescription inserts, confirm that the insert is fully seated in the detachable frame.

The screen washes out in sunlight

  • With GT, move away from direct sunlight or add RayNeo’s separate lens shade; there is no electrochromic control.
  • With Air 2 Pro, select 35% or 100% dimming and attach the light shield.
  • Remember that a higher stated brightness does not eliminate ambient-light reflections; the optical environment still matters.

The virtual screen moves when you turn

  • On GT, choose Steady or Pinned instead of Follow.
  • On Air 2 Pro, use Beam Pro for Body Anchor or Smooth Follow.
  • If you only need a mirrored monitor, disable spatial features and treat the glasses as an external display.

Which model should you buy?

Choose RayNeo GT when these priorities match

  • You want the lighter frame documented at 68g.
  • You regularly read or work in rooms where extra display brightness helps.
  • You want Steady, Pinned and Follow modes without buying Beam Pro.
  • You value the listed 120Hz 2D refresh, 200,000:1 contrast and wide color specifications.
  • You are comfortable arranging your own light control and do not require documented prescription support.

Choose XREAL Air 2 Pro when these priorities match

  • You move between bright and dark environments and want 0%, 35% and 100% electrochromic dimming.
  • You want a light shield included in the box.
  • You need the detachable prescription frame and documented insert-provider options.
  • You mainly need a straightforward external display for a phone, console or PC.
  • You want the cited TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light, flicker-free, color-accuracy and eye-comfort certifications and a one-year warranty documented by the support page.

When neither is an automatic fit

Neither product’s cited material supplies battery-runtime testing, so do not choose based on an assumed all-day wireless capability. Both depend on a tethered host and compatible video output. If your main requirement is a self-contained AR computer, a different product category may be more appropriate than either of these display glasses.

Final verdict

For everyday screens, RayNeo GT wins on the combination of lighter weight, strong non-Pinned brightness and native spatial modes. XREAL Air 2 Pro wins on environmental flexibility: its dimming system, included shield and prescription-lens documentation reduce the compromises of daily wear. Compare the complete setup rather than the glasses-only price, verify your phone or console’s video output, and treat the brightness figures as mode-specific specifications rather than a laboratory ranking.
