Ray-Ban Meta Audio is the closest alternative for someone who specifically wants camera-free open-ear sound built into everyday glasses. If you do not need eyewear, Bose Ultra Open Earbuds and Shokz OpenFit provide two different standalone approaches: a cuff that rests around the ear and an ear-hook design.
The right choice depends less on a universal sound-quality ranking—which the available manufacturer specifications cannot establish—and more on whether you need prescription-glass compatibility, exercise stability, water resistance, assistant features, camera-free hardware, or the longest advertised battery claim.
What “Ray-Ban Meta Audio alternative” can mean
Open-ear products keep the ear canal uncovered. You can hear surrounding traffic, conversations and announcements while listening to music, taking calls or using an assistant. That design is different from sealed in-ear earbuds and from bone-conduction headsets: the products discussed here use speakers positioned near the ear rather than plugging the canal.

There are two categories in this comparison:
- Audio glasses: speakers, microphones and controls are integrated into eyeglass temples.
- Standalone open-ear audio: separate earbuds sit on or around the ear and can be worn with your own glasses.
Ray-Ban Meta Audio belongs to the first category. Bose Ultra Open Earbuds and Shokz OpenFit belong to the second. Amazon’s Echo Frames announcement describes another glasses-based approach, but that historical announcement does not prove that a current, buyable model is available.

Battery figures in the table are each maker’s “up to” claims under its own conditions. They are not results from a controlled, cross-brand test. Bose’s page documents testing of production-representative units in October 2023 with A2DP Bluetooth streaming and a specified pink-noise level; Shokz notes that actual life varies with use.
Ray-Ban Meta Audio: the glasses-first option
What is built into the frame
The Ray-Ban US listing identifies the Burbank RW7005 variant. It describes two open-ear speakers, a six-microphone array, touch and voice controls, Meta AI, Bluetooth 5.3 and up to 12 hours of use on one charge. The broader Ray-Ban Meta Audio product information also lists Wi-Fi 6 and IPX4 water resistance.
The frame is designed to function as eyewear and an audio interface at the same time. You do not need to put on a separate earbud when you leave home, and the microphones are positioned on the glasses rather than on a device in your ear. That convenience is the main reason to choose this category; it is not simply another pair of wireless headphones.

Camera-free, but not the same as every Ray-Ban Meta model
Ray-Ban describes Meta Audio as an audio-only, camera-free model. Its current discovery page lists camera-equipped Gen 3 and Gen 2 products separately. Check the exact model name and frame code when shopping, because “Ray-Ban Meta” can refer to more than one hardware family.
A camera-free frame may be preferable in workplaces, schools, museums, secure facilities or social situations where recording hardware is unwelcome. It also gives you the glasses form factor without assuming that you want photo or video features.

Phone, account and network prerequisites
Ray-Ban says Meta Audio operation requires a compatible smartphone, internet access, a Meta account and the Meta AI app. Its current FAQ lists Android 10 or later and iOS 14.4 or later. These requirements matter even if your primary goal is simply listening: changing settings, using Meta AI and installing updates depend on the supported phone-and-app combination.
Before buying, confirm that the app is available in your country and that your phone meets the current requirements. Ray-Ban notes that availability and specifications can change by country, so a listing in one market should not be treated as a guarantee for another.

How the cuff fit differs from glasses and ear hooks
Bose Ultra Open Earbuds use a cuff-like fit that rests around the ear instead of entering the canal. Bose’s OpenAudio description emphasizes that your ears remain open to the surroundings while sound is delivered from the earbud. Because the electronics are separate from your eyewear, you can change glasses without changing the audio device.
The cuff is a distinct mechanical approach from both a temple-mounted speaker and an ear hook. Individual ear shape determines whether a cuff feels secure or creates pressure; product specifications cannot predict personal comfort. Try the fit with your own glasses, sunglasses and headwear if possible.
Battery figures and listening modes
Bose lists up to 7 hours of playback. Its page reduces the claim to up to 4 hours when Immersive Audio or Auto Volume is enabled. The charging case is specified to provide up to 19.5 additional hours.

Bose’s test note says production-representative units were tested in October 2023 using A2DP Bluetooth streaming and a defined pink-noise level. That detail explains why the number should be read as a manufacturer test claim rather than a prediction of your own mixed use. Calls, high volume, temperature, wireless behavior and listening modes can all change runtime.
What the cited information does not establish
The cited Bose product page focuses on the open-ear design and battery information; it does not provide a water-resistance rating in the supplied specifications. Do not assume that an unlisted rating makes the earbuds suitable for rain, sweat or immersion. If weather protection is a deciding factor, verify the current regional specification before purchase.
Shokz OpenFit: an ear-hook design for glasses and headwear
DirectPitch audio rather than bone conduction
Shokz says OpenFit uses its DirectPitch technology, which directs sound toward the ear canal. It is not a bone-conduction product. The distinction matters because the listening sensation, placement and leakage characteristics differ from a headset that vibrates the bones around the ear.
Fit, microphones and water protection
Each OpenFit earbud has two microphones. Shokz describes the ear-hook design as compatible with glasses and headwear, making it a candidate for people who already wear prescription frames or a hat. That is a design claim, not independent comfort testing; ear size, frame arms and the position of a hat can still affect stability.
Shokz lists IP54 water resistance for the earbuds. The charging case is not waterproof. IP54 does not mean the set can be submerged, and the case should be kept away from water even when the earbuds are being used outdoors.

Battery and case capacity
The OpenFit FAQ lists up to 7 hours on one charge and up to 28 hours with the charging case. Shokz says actual battery life varies with use. The 28-hour figure is total listening supported by the case, not continuous playback from the earbuds themselves.
Amazon Echo Frames: a category reference, not a confirmed buy-now recommendation
Amazon’s launch announcement describes open-ear speakers integrated into the temples for calls, music, smart-home control and notifications through Alexa. The announcement says:
“Nestled in the temples, open-ear audio directs sound toward your ears, so you can ask Alexa to make a phone call, listen to music, control your smart home, hear notifications, and more—all while keeping your ears uncovered.”
That description shows how smart glasses can combine open-ear audio with a voice assistant. However, the cited announcement is historical and does not establish current stock, a present product generation, regional support or an active purchase option. Treat Echo Frames as a technology category to verify, not as a guaranteed alternative available in every market.
Choose by the job you need the hardware to do
Choose Ray-Ban Meta Audio when eyewear is the priority
Ray-Ban Meta Audio is the logical starting point if you want one object to serve as glasses, speakers, microphones and an AI interface. It avoids carrying separate earbuds and leaves your ears physically unobstructed. The trade-off is that the frame, lens style and fit become part of your audio decision. You must also accept the phone, internet, account and app requirements.

Choose Bose when you want a separate, cuff-style device
Ultra Open Earbuds make sense when you want to keep your existing glasses and choose a premium-looking open-ear form that does not use an ear hook. Their advertised runtime changes substantially with Immersive Audio or Auto Volume, so compare your intended mode rather than relying only on the seven-hour headline.
Choose Shokz when an ear hook suits your activities
OpenFit is the more direct fit for someone who wants an ear-hook design, listed IP54 earbud protection and compatibility claims for glasses and headwear. It remains a separate device, so you can use it with different frames or no glasses at all. The case is not waterproof, which matters for commuting, training and outdoor storage.
Choose a camera-free design deliberately
Ray-Ban Meta Audio is the only model in this comparison explicitly identified as camera-free glasses. Bose and Shokz are standalone audio products and therefore do not add a camera to your face. If recording capability is prohibited or simply unwanted, check the exact product rather than assuming that every model in a glasses family has the same sensors.

Ray-Ban’s claim is up to 12 hours on one charge. Bose quotes up to 7 hours, or up to 4 hours in two named modes, plus up to 19.5 hours from its case. Shokz quotes up to 7 hours per charge and 28 hours with its case. Those numbers describe different products, test conditions and usage patterns. Ask whether you need a full day without charging, a case at your desk, or the ability to swap devices while your glasses remain in use.

- Check the exact listing name and frame code, making sure it says Meta Audio rather than a camera-equipped Gen 2 or Gen 3 model.

- Install or locate the Meta AI app in your region and verify that you can sign in with a Meta account.
- Make sure the intended use location has reliable internet access for the functions that require online services.

For Bose or Shokz, the practical pre-purchase check is physical: try the device with your normal glasses, helmet or hat, then verify the current regional battery, warranty and water-resistance information. The supplied product specifications do not provide a standardized comfort or sound-quality test that can replace that trial.
What these specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Open-ear hardware is designed for environmental awareness, not isolation. In a loud train, windy street or busy gym, outside sound can compete with the speaker output. Conversely, people nearby may hear some of what you play. None of the cited specifications provides an independent leakage, volume or noise-cancellation measurement, so do not infer one.
Likewise, battery claims are ceilings under stated conditions. A phone call, high volume, voice-assistant use, wireless signal changes and optional processing can shorten runtime. Bose’s documented October 2023 test conditions and Shokz’s warning that usage changes battery life are reminders to treat all “up to” figures as estimates, not guarantees.

Pick the category first, then validate fit, phone support, water exposure and your actual charging routine.
