Start with raw input and no added acceleration if you want a consistent relationship between physical mouse movement and aim movement. Choose acceleration only when you deliberately want movement speed to change how far your aim travels. That is a control preference, not a guaranteed accuracy or performance upgrade. The exact way a current Counter-Strike 2 build handles Windows pointer settings is not fully established by the available official records, so treat Windows changes as configuration tests rather than confirmed fixes.
The short answer
Raw input and mouse acceleration solve different problems. Raw input describes how a game receives movement data. Acceleration describes whether the speed of your physical movement changes the distance your pointer or aim travels. A setup can therefore involve raw input while still having acceleration applied elsewhere, depending on the software path.
- Prefer stable movement: Begin with raw input and no added acceleration. A slow or fast swipe should produce the same directional relationship for the same physical distance.
- Prefer speed-dependent movement: Acceleration may suit you if you intentionally want a quick swipe to travel farther than a slow swipe over the same distance.
- Do not treat either choice as a universal aim improvement: No authoritative source reviewed establishes that one setting improves aim for every Counter-Strike player.
- Separate Windows from the game: Windows exposes pointer controls, but the available official material does not confirm whether a current Counter-Strike 2 build reads or bypasses each one.
That makes consistency and personal preference the practical decision criteria. If you change a setting, change one variable at a time and judge the result in your own configuration rather than assuming a setting is an officially verified Counter-Strike fix.

Raw input and acceleration are not the same setting
What “raw input” means
Raw input is a description of the input path: the game receives mouse movement data in a way intended to avoid relying on some higher-level pointer behavior. In a general explanation, it answers where the movement data comes from, not whether the movement is accelerated.

The source material does not provide a current, official Counter-Strike 2 technical specification that maps every build’s input path. Consequently, “raw input” should be treated as a conceptual term unless a particular game or driver version documents the exact implementation.
What “mouse acceleration” means
Acceleration changes the movement relationship according to speed. With no acceleration, moving the mouse a given physical distance is intended to produce a stable amount of pointer or aim travel, regardless of whether the swipe was slow or fast. With acceleration, movement speed becomes another input: a faster motion can produce more travel than a slower motion over a similar distance.
Acceleration is not automatically “bad.” It is useful only if that speed-dependent relationship is what you want and can reproduce. It can also make muscle-memory training feel different because identical distances do not necessarily result in identical on-screen travel when the movement speeds differ.

Players commonly use “raw input,” “mouse acceleration,” and “Enhance pointer precision” as if they were interchangeable. They are not. Raw input is about data delivery; acceleration is about transforming movement; Enhance pointer precision is a Windows pointer behavior. A change in one layer does not prove what another layer is doing.

What is actually documented about Counter-Strike 2
The Valve issue record
A ValveSoftware public issue opened on March 27, 2024 requested options to enable or disable raw input, mouse acceleration, and Windows Enhanced Pointer Precision. A Valve issue-tracker maintainer, kisak-valve, replied that “feature requests are not tracked in this issue tracker.” The issue was then closed as not planned.
That record establishes how the request was handled in that tracker. It does not establish that every current or previous Counter-Strike 2 build lacked those controls, nor does it describe the game’s technical input path. It also is not a promise that Valve will never add a setting. Do not use the issue status as proof that a particular Windows option is definitely ignored or definitely applied.
Community guidance versus an official specification
A community-maintained CS2 settings reference says that CS2 raw input bypasses Windows settings. That is useful context for troubleshooting, but it has not been independently confirmed here against an official current-build specification. Present it as community guidance, not as settled technical fact.
This distinction matters when a Windows change appears to do nothing. The unchanged feel could mean the game bypasses that Windows behavior, or it could reflect another part of the input chain. Without a documented implementation for the exact build, the observation alone cannot identify the cause.

Windows pointer settings: the paths for each version
Microsoft documents a pointer speed slider and an Enhance pointer precision control in Windows. The navigation labels differ between Windows 11 and Windows 10, so use the path that matches the operating system on the machine running Counter-Strike.
Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Mouse.
- Review the Mouse pointer speed slider and the Enhance pointer precision control on that page.
Microsoft describes Enhance pointer precision as a way “to make the pointer more accurate when the mouse is moving slowly.” That wording describes Windows pointer behavior; it does not establish that Counter-Strike 2 uses the setting.
Windows 10
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices, then Mouse.
- Select Additional mouse options.
- Open the Pointer Options tab.
- Review the pointer speed control and Enhance pointer precision.
Windows 10 uses the older Control Panel-style dialog for the final controls, while Windows 11 exposes them from the Mouse page. Do not assume that a guide written for one version has the same labels or route on the other.
How to choose between stable movement and acceleration
| What you want | Reasonable starting choice | What the choice is intended to do | Evidence status for current CS2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| The same movement distance to behave similarly at different speeds | Raw input with no added acceleration | Keeps movement speed from intentionally changing the travel relationship | General conceptual guidance; the exact current CS2 input path is not officially specified in the supplied sources |
| A quick swipe to travel farther than a slow swipe over a similar physical distance | Acceleration, if a control you can verify applies to your setup | Uses movement speed as part of the distance calculation | General behavior of acceleration; no universal CS2 recommendation is established |
| Uncertainty about whether Windows affects the game | Inspect Windows settings, then test one change at a time | Separates a personal configuration test from an assumption about the game’s implementation | Microsoft documents the Windows controls; current CS2 interaction remains uncertain |
| A desire to copy a community configuration | Use it as a hypothesis, not proof | Lets you compare a reported setup with your own results | Community guidance is not an official current-build specification |
If you are starting from scratch, the stable-movement row is the least complicated baseline: keep the relationship predictable, record the rest of your settings, and only add speed dependence if you have a clear reason to want it. If acceleration feels natural and you can reproduce your motions reliably, there is no evidence in the supplied sources that you must remove it.

A controlled way to test your own configuration
Because the official material does not settle how every current CS2 build treats Windows pointer behavior, a controlled personal test is more informative than changing several settings at once.
- Record the starting state. Note your operating-system version, Windows pointer speed, Enhance pointer precision state, mouse DPI setting, and any acceleration-related control you can identify in the game or device software. Recording the values makes a reversal possible.
- Choose one variable. For example, change only Enhance pointer precision. Do not simultaneously alter pointer speed, DPI, in-game sensitivity, and a driver profile.
- Restart the game if needed. If a setting is read only when the game starts, a restart avoids attributing a delayed change to the wrong cause. This is a test precaution, not a claim about CS2’s implementation.
- Use repeatable motions. Compare slow and fast swipes, short corrections, and a turn that you can perform several times. The question is whether the movement relationship feels different, not whether one brief round produces a better score.
- Write down the result. Record what changed, what did not, and which application was open when you tested. A result of “no noticeable difference” is useful evidence about your own setup, even though it does not prove what the game does internally.
- Revert or keep the change deliberately. If the change is not useful, restore the recorded value. If it is useful, leave the other variables alone long enough to determine whether the benefit is repeatable for you.
This procedure avoids a common diagnostic error: changing Windows, game sensitivity, mouse DPI, and driver settings together and then being unable to identify which change affected the feel.

Check the layer you changed
First identify whether you changed Windows, a game setting, or mouse/driver software. A Windows pointer option cannot be assumed to control a game that receives movement through a different path. Conversely, a driver profile may affect the mouse before the game receives data. Keep the layer in your notes.

On Windows 11, return to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse. On Windows 10, use Settings → Devices → Mouse → Additional mouse options → Pointer Options. If you cannot find the control, you may be following the other version’s instructions rather than dealing with a Counter-Strike issue.

Change one variable and test again
If toggling Enhance pointer precision appears to change nothing in CS2, do not automatically conclude that the setting is broken or that the game definitely bypasses it. Repeat the test with one variable changed and document the result. The available official material does not confirm the current CS2 behavior, so this remains a personal configuration test.
Do not infer technical behavior from the Valve issue status
The March 27, 2024 issue was closed because feature requests are not tracked in that issue tracker. That explains the tracker outcome, not whether a specific build reads Windows pointer settings. Use the issue as historical context, not as a diagnostic specification.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming “raw” automatically means “no acceleration.” The terms describe different properties. Confirm which transformation, if any, is active in the layer you are testing.
- Treating Enhance pointer precision as a Counter-Strike switch. Microsoft’s description concerns Windows pointer behavior and does not say how CS2 handles it.
- Promising an aim upgrade. The available sources do not provide a study, percentage, benchmark, or expert recommendation proving that either choice improves aim for all players.
- Changing several controls together. Multiple simultaneous changes prevent a meaningful comparison and make recovery difficult.
- Reading “not planned” as a technical answer. The Valve maintainer’s statement concerns issue-tracker policy, not the implementation of mouse input in every build.
- Buying hardware to solve an unverified software question. A gaming mouse with adjustable DPI can make it easier to inspect or change DPI settings, but purchasing one is not necessary to inspect Windows pointer controls and is not established as a fix for acceleration.
Practical decision framework
Choose the stable baseline when predictability is your priority
Use raw input without added acceleration as the initial configuration when you want a straightforward relationship between physical distance and aim movement. This minimizes the number of intentional transformations you are asking yourself to learn. It remains a starting point, not a promise of higher accuracy.
Recommended Free Tools
Choose acceleration only for a deliberate speed-dependent style
Acceleration is a reasonable choice when you specifically want movement speed to affect travel distance and can reproduce that behavior comfortably. Test it in a controlled way and keep a record of the setting so you can return to the previous configuration.
Choose investigation when the behavior is ambiguous
If a Windows toggle appears ineffective, investigate the input layer instead of making a universal claim about CS2. Confirm your Windows version, check the exact control path, change one variable, and treat the result as evidence about your machine and build. Community reports can suggest what to test, but they do not replace an official current-build specification.
Bottom line for Counter-Strike players
Raw input and mouse acceleration answer different questions. Start with raw input and no added acceleration if you want movement distance to remain stable when your hand speed changes. Use acceleration only when you intentionally want speed-dependent travel. Windows 11 and Windows 10 expose pointer controls through different paths, and Microsoft’s explanation of Enhance pointer precision applies to Windows pointer behavior rather than proving what Counter-Strike 2 does. The Valve issue record documents a tracker-policy response, not a technical description of the current game. Test your own setup one variable at a time, and treat consistency and comfort—not an assumed universal aim advantage—as the deciding factors.
