Ratatan Version 1.0 is now available on Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The finished rhythm-roguelike combines timed commands with side-scrolling combat, supports offline solo play and online co-op for up to four people, and adds the final story episodes, world and boss encounters. The official announcement calls October 15 the launch date, while Steam and PlayStation store listings show October 14, 2026, reflecting platform timing around the worldwide release.
What Ratatan is
Ratatan is built around a distinctive split in control. You freely move your Ratatan hero, while rhythm sequences issue commands to the accompanying Cobuns. Attacking, defending, advancing and retreating therefore depend on both musical timing and battlefield positioning.
That combination creates large, hectic encounters: the Steam description says a battle can contain more than 100 characters fighting in a single melee. The campaign follows the Ratatans of Rataport as they search for The Everafter and its Goddess.

The 1.0 release completes the campaign rather than simply ending early access with a label change. It includes:

Solo play, co-op and cross-play
Offline solo
The complete game can be played offline by one player, so an internet connection is not required for the campaign or solo runs.

Online co-op for four
Online co-op supports up to four players. Local co-op on one console or PC is not supported, so a group sharing a single system cannot play together on the same screen. Console players also need the relevant PlayStation or Xbox online-multiplayer subscription.
Where cross-play works
Cross-play currently links Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation 5 cross-play is planned for the near future, but it is not included in the currently confirmed cross-play group. Check the platform’s latest service status before arranging a mixed-platform session.

How the combat works in practice
- Choose a rhythm command. Input the displayed sequence to tell your Cobuns what to do.
- Position the Ratatan. Your Ratatan can move independently, allowing you to approach targets, avoid attacks or change the angle of an engagement.
- Keep the timing. Missed or late inputs can reduce the effectiveness of the commanded action during a crowded fight.
- Read the battlefield. Large groups and boss patterns make spacing as important as attacking.
- Decide when to retreat. Pulling back to reset your position is part of the combat system, not a sign that a run has failed.
The result is not a conventional rhythm game with combat visuals layered on top. Musical accuracy determines commands, while movement and tactical choices determine whether those commands connect safely.
Buying options and physical edition
Steam editions
Steam lists the standard edition at $34.99. A Deluxe Edition is also listed, alongside separate downloadable content covering weapons and accessories, Cobuns and upgrade materials. No current official listing gives the Deluxe Edition’s exact contents or a price for each add-on, so verify the current store listing before purchasing.

Nintendo Switch 2 game card
The official FAQ confirms that the physical Nintendo Switch 2 release is a game card containing the game data. That makes it a genuine physical copy rather than a package that merely contains a download code. The confirmation applies to Switch 2; it does not mean the original Nintendo Switch version is available.
Choosing a platform
- Choose Steam if you want PC play and the currently broadest confirmed cross-play group, but note the lack of official Steam Deck support and native Linux support.
- Choose Switch 2 if portable console play or a physical game card matters to you.
- Choose Xbox Series X|S if you want console play while retaining cross-play with Steam and Switch 2.
- Choose PS5 for a current console release, while treating cross-play as a feature planned for a later update rather than a launch guarantee.
Kickstarter background
Ratatan’s development was backed by a 2023 Kickstarter campaign that raised ¥219,314,335 from 14,598 backers. That history explains the project’s unusually visible community funding, but the 1.0 release is the relevant version for new players today. Merchandise rewards were not ready at full release; any future availability is to be announced through Kickstarter updates, so current stock should not be assumed.

What to know before you buy
- There is no local multiplayer on one system.
- Console online co-op requires the platform’s multiplayer subscription.
- PlayStation 5 is launched, but its cross-play timing remains separate from the Steam, Switch 2 and Xbox arrangement.
- The original Switch and GOG editions are still being prepared.
- Steam Deck play is possible, but it is not officially supported.
For players who want a complete campaign, Ratatan 1.0 is the version to choose: it includes the concluding episodes and endgame content, while preserving the core rhythm-command and side-scrolling action design for solo or four-player online runs.
