Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is a Windows tactical co-op PvE first-person shooter released on January 20, 2022. On Steam, the practical baseline is a 64-bit Windows 10 PC with 8 GB of RAM, a Ryzen 3 1200 or Core i5-4460 processor, an RX 560 or GTX 960 graphics card with 4 GB of VRAM, broadband internet, and 72 GB of free storage. The recommended tier doubles memory to 16 GB and moves to a Ryzen 5 1600 or Core i7-4790 with an RX 580 or GTX 1660-class GPU.
Steam lists single-player, online co-op, cross-platform multiplayer and captions. Solo play is available, but the published broadband requirement means it should not be treated as an offline game. A Ubisoft Account linked to Steam is required, and squads can contain up to three players.

These are requirement tiers, not a promise of a particular frame rate or graphics preset. The published sources do not provide independent FPS measurements, so a machine that clears the minimum should be viewed as eligible to run the game rather than guaranteed to deliver a specific refresh rate.

What each requirement means for your PC
Operating system
Both tiers specify 64-bit Windows 10. A 32-bit Windows installation does not match the listed requirement, even if the processor and graphics card appear fast enough. Check the edition and architecture before downloading: open Settings > System > About and read System type. Windows 11 is not named in the cited requirement table, so the documented compatibility target remains 64-bit Windows 10.
Processor
The minimum CPUs are the Ryzen 3 1200 and Core i5-4460, while the recommended tier moves to the Ryzen 5 1600 and Core i7-4790. The recommended parts represent a newer performance class and provide more processing headroom for a busy Windows desktop, voice chat and a multiplayer session running together. Compare the full model number, not just a family name such as “Ryzen 5” or “Core i7”; different generations within those families have very different capabilities.
Memory
Eight gigabytes of RAM is the minimum listing, and 16 GB is the recommended amount. If your computer has 8 GB, close browsers, launchers and background utilities before starting a session so less memory is competing with the game. A 16 GB system gives Windows and communication software substantially more room, but it does not replace a graphics card that falls below the GPU requirement.

The minimum graphics choices are an AMD RX 560 with 4 GB of VRAM or an NVIDIA GTX 960 with 4 GB. The recommended choices are an RX 580 with 8 GB or a GTX 1660 with 6 GB. The VRAM figures are part of the specification: a card with a similar-sounding model number but less video memory is not automatically equivalent. Laptop GPUs can also use different power limits and names from desktop cards, so verify the exact installed model in Windows rather than relying on the product family printed on a laptop listing.

Storage and internet
Steam and Ubisoft list 72 GB of available storage. Leave additional working room for Windows, shader files and updates instead of filling a drive to its final gigabyte. Broadband internet is listed for both tiers. That requirement applies even when you intend to play alone because Steam identifies the solo option separately from the game’s always-published network requirement.
How to check your computer before installing
- Confirm Windows architecture: go to Settings > System > About. Check that System type reports a 64-bit operating system.
- Identify the processor: in the same page, read the processor model and compare it with the minimum and recommended names in the table. Include the model suffix when comparing a desktop and laptop.
- Check installed memory: open Settings > System > About and read Installed RAM. If the value is close to 8 GB, allow for memory used by Windows and other programs rather than assuming every gigabyte is available to the game.
- Verify the GPU and VRAM: press Windows key + R, enter
dxdiag, press Enter, then open the Display tab. Record the card name and display-memory figure. You can also open Task Manager > Performance > GPU for a second check. - Measure free storage: open File Explorer > This PC, right-click the drive where Steam will install the game, and choose Properties. The free-space value must exceed the listed install requirement, with room left for the operating system and updates.
- Test your connection: make sure the PC can maintain a broadband connection while Steam is signed in. If several people share the connection, pause large downloads before joining a squad.
Steam account and Ubisoft setup
Steam’s feature metadata states that a Ubisoft Account is required and can be linked to Steam. Plan for that account step before your first launch; purchasing or installing through Steam does not remove the separate Ubisoft sign-in.
- Install the Steam client and sign in to the Steam account that owns the game.
- Install the game to a drive with enough free space for the published requirement plus normal system overhead.
- Start the game from Steam. When prompted, sign in to an existing Ubisoft Account or create one.
- Approve the account link and allow the Ubisoft launcher or authentication window to complete. Keep both Steam and Ubisoft credentials available if you need to recover a session.
- After linking, return to the game and check that your profile loads before inviting friends. A failed link or a different Ubisoft account can make a legitimate Steam purchase appear unavailable.
Account linking is a service requirement, not an optional social feature. If authentication repeatedly fails, verify that Steam is online, close duplicate launcher processes, sign in to the intended Ubisoft Account, and retry the link before reinstalling the game.

Single-player is not the same as offline
Steam lists Single-player, so you can enter missions without filling every squad slot with friends. However, the system requirements still call for broadband internet, and Steam describes the title as an online co-op PvE extraction shooter. Treat solo as a one-person online session, not as an airplane-mode or disconnected mode.

Online co-op for one to three players
The Steam description identifies one-to-three-player online co-op. You can play alone, form a two-person team, or bring a full three-player squad. The game’s official description characterizes the experience as a tactical co-op PvE first-person shooter in which a squad faces an evolving alien threat and relies on teamwork, tactics and careful execution.
Cross-platform multiplayer
Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer. That means Steam is not limited to PC-only squads, although every participant still needs the applicable platform account and network access. Use the in-game invitation and account identity shown by the game rather than assuming a friend’s Steam name is the identifier used across platforms.
Captions
Captions are listed as available in Steam’s accessibility metadata. Enable them in the game’s audio or accessibility settings if you need spoken dialogue and important sounds represented as on-screen text. The exact presentation can vary by language and game update, so check the current options menu after installation.

Choosing between minimum and recommended hardware
Use the minimum tier as a compatibility gate. A PC that meets every minimum entry has the listed CPU class, at least 8 GB of RAM, a 4 GB RX 560 or GTX 960-class GPU, the required operating-system architecture, enough disk space and broadband access. It is the appropriate answer when you already own the machine and want to know whether installation is plausible.
Choose the recommended tier when you are buying or upgrading specifically for the game, or when you want more room for background applications and future updates. The move to 16 GB of memory and the RX 580 or GTX 1660 class is the largest clear headroom change in the published table. No source establishes a guaranteed FPS advantage, so use the recommended figures as a stronger starting point rather than a promise of a fixed frame rate.
A sensible upgrade order
- First, fix a hard failure: if the operating system is 32-bit, the GPU has less VRAM than the minimum listing, or the drive lacks free space, resolve that blocker before tuning settings.
- Next, address memory: moving from 8 GB toward 16 GB reduces pressure from Windows, voice chat and other open applications.
- Then assess the GPU: prioritize an upgrade when your card is below the RX 560/GTX 960 class or lacks the stated 4 GB minimum VRAM.
- Finally, consider the CPU: a processor below the Ryzen 3 1200/Core i5-4460 class can limit overall responsiveness even when the graphics card is adequate.
Check compatibility between any replacement parts, the motherboard power supply and the case before purchasing. The requirement list names target classes, not a parts-upgrade procedure.

Broadband access is mandatory in the published requirements and supports account authentication, matchmaking and online sessions. For the most predictable connection, use Ethernet when practical, stop other large transfers, and avoid launching a squad session while the same connection is saturated by cloud backups or downloads.

A USB gaming headset with a microphone is a sensible optional accessory for coordinated squad play. It is not listed as a mandatory hardware requirement. If you use one, select it as the input and output device in Windows and in the game’s audio settings, then test push-to-talk or open-microphone behavior before inviting other players.
Troubleshooting common requirement and Steam problems
The game will not start
- Recheck that Windows reports a 64-bit installation and that the processor, RAM and GPU match at least the minimum table.
- Confirm that the Steam installation drive has enough free capacity; a nearly full drive can prevent installation or updates.
- Close other launchers, restart Steam, and try the launch again so the Ubisoft authentication step can appear cleanly.
Performance is unstable
- Compare your machine with the recommended, not only the minimum, CPU, RAM and GPU entries.
- Close memory-heavy applications and browser tabs, especially on an 8 GB system.
- Check that the game is using the intended discrete GPU on a laptop and that the display driver recognizes the card shown in
dxdiag. - Lower in-game visual settings incrementally and observe the result; the published specifications do not establish a universal FPS target.
You cannot join a friend
- Verify that Steam is online and that the Ubisoft Account linked to your installation is the account you intend to use.
- Use the game’s cross-platform invitation identity rather than relying only on a platform display name.
- Confirm that every participant has broadband access and is running the game on a supported platform.
You expected offline solo play
Steam’s single-player label describes the number of players, while the broadband requirement describes connectivity. Reconnect the PC, sign in to Steam and Ubisoft, and launch the solo option as an online session.
Pre-install checklist
- 64-bit Windows 10 is installed.
- The CPU is at least a Ryzen 3 1200 or Core i5-4460 class; recommended systems use a Ryzen 5 1600 or Core i7-4790 class.
- There is at least 8 GB of RAM; 16 GB is the recommended capacity.
