To reset a Rain Bird LNK2 WiFi Module, press and hold its button for more than five seconds. This erases the module’s saved WiFi settings and returns it to QuickPair setup; Rain Bird says watering schedules are retained. The steps are specific to LNK2 installations—not a universal reset for every Rain Bird WiFi controller.
If you have an RC2 or ARC controller with built-in WiFi, use its separate WiFi reset procedure instead. First confirm your product, then check network compatibility and signal before resetting.
Which Rain Bird WiFi product are you resetting?
Rain Bird has different reset steps for its plug-in LNK2 module and for RC2/ARC controllers with built-in WiFi. Identify the product before pressing buttons: the LNK2 reset uses the button on the module, while the RC2/ARC procedure uses the controller’s WiFi icon button.

Rain Bird documents the LNK2 steps in its LNK2 WiFi User Guide and 2023 LNK2 WiFi Module User Guide. The RC2/ARC procedure is separate; do not substitute it for the LNK2 module reset.

How to reset an LNK2 WiFi Module to QuickPair
- Find the module button. Locate the button on the LNK2 module attached to the irrigation controller.
- Hold it for more than five seconds. This erases the module’s stored WiFi settings and restores its factory WiFi settings. The target state is QuickPair broadcast mode.
- Remove the old controller card if it is in the app. Rain Bird instructs users to delete the existing controller card before adding the reset controller again.
- Add the controller again. Open the Rain Bird app, tap Add Controller, and follow the on-screen setup steps.
- Check your phone’s network during setup. Make sure it is connected to the intended network; a phone may automatically switch to another local network and interrupt setup.
This reset changes the module’s WiFi settings, not the irrigation program. Rain Bird says watering schedules are retained.
Check compatibility and WiFi band before reconnecting
Confirm the controller supports LNK2
Rain Bird lists the following compatible controllers: ESP-TM2, ESP-RZXe, ESP-ME3, and ESP-ME manufactured after November 2, 2016, as well as LXIVM, LXME2, and LXME2 Pro. Rain Bird says compatible panels have a WiFi symbol. Check the controller model and, for ESP-ME, its manufacture date before concluding that a module is needed. Use a 2.4 GHz network
The LNK2 guide specifies 2.4 GHz WiFi and says the module is not compatible with 5.0 GHz. If your router separates the bands into different network names, select the 2.4 GHz network during setup.
Verify the phone is on the intended network
During app setup, check the phone’s current WiFi connection rather than assuming it stayed on the network you selected. Rain Bird notes that a phone can automatically reconnect to a different local network, which can make setup fail even after the module connects.

What to do if the controller will not stay connected
Check signal where the controller is installed
A controller at the edge of router coverage may connect unreliably. Rain Bird identifies weak signal as one cause of irregular connection. If practical, move the router closer. Another option is a 2.4 GHz WiFi extender that reaches the controller’s location. If you use an extender, configure the controller to the extender’s network name and password; connecting it to the original router network instead may not solve the coverage problem.
Distinguish unstable WiFi from a module communication error
A controller that drops off the network points to connection conditions such as weak signal or the wrong network selection. A module that appears not to communicate with the controller needs a seating and pin check. Rain Bird’s LED light guidance for LNK/LNK2 modules describes troubleshooting for communication errors; a blinking green light by itself does not establish that the module is faulty.

If the LNK2 still will not communicate with the controller
- Remove and reinsert the module. Check that it is seated correctly.
- Inspect the pins. Look for bent pins that could prevent communication with the controller.
- If the error continues, remove the module and reset the controller. Press the controller’s reset button, wait three seconds, then reinsert the module.
- Reset the module while it is plugged in and set it up again. If it was previously listed in the app, delete the old controller card before adding it again.
- Contact Rain Bird customer service if these checks do not resolve the issue. Rain Bird advises asking whether the module and controller are covered by warranty for replacement.
Before treating a failed setup as a hardware fault, verify LNK2 compatibility, the 2.4 GHz band, the phone’s network selection, signal at the controller, module seating, and the LED behavior.
