There is no single best Hydra team in RAID: Shadow Legends: the active heads and their affinities change monthly, and each Champion can fight only once per weekly cycle. Build around the four heads in your current rotation, then choose Champions who can survive, manage the active mechanics, rescue marked allies and deal useful damage during exposed-neck windows.
How Hydra works—and what changes each rotation
Hydra is a Clan Boss battle unlocked at player Level 45. You can bring up to six Champions against four active heads; two other heads are substitutes. Plarium assigns each head an affinity for the monthly rotation. The four starter heads and their affinities stay the same throughout that rotation, but a substitute can appear when a head regrows. Check the lineup and affinities in-game rather than relying on an old team recommendation: the exact live October 2026 lineup is not established here. See Plarium’s Hydra guide for the published rules.
Hydra gives each player three keys per week, and the same Champion can be used in only one Hydra battle during that weekly cycle. Keys cannot be bought from the Shop. The weekly reset is Wednesday within an 08:00–13:00 UTC window; the exact time can vary. These rules make roster depth part of team-building: a strong six-Champion squad cannot simply be reused across all three keys. Plarium’s Clans guide describes the weekly reset and rewards.
Clan members’ damage contributes to the shared Hydra HP, and later attacks continue against the remaining HP. Your chest depends on your contribution and difficulty. Defeating Hydra on a difficulty doubles rewards for contributors and unlocks the next difficulty. Hydra chests can contain Stone Skin and Protection artifact sets, including Mythical-rarity pieces.

How to rescue a Champion marked for devouring
At the start of battle, one Champion receives Mark of the Hydra with a 20-turn countdown. When it expires, the next head to act devours that Champion. Taunt does not prevent the devour when another Champion carries the mark.
After the devour, a five-turn digestion countdown begins. Attack the head holding your Champion and deal enough damage before the countdown ends to free them. If digestion completes, the Champion is consumed and cannot be revived or returned to that battle.

The windows shrink as the fight progresses: each new mark’s countdown falls by one turn, to a minimum of two, and each successive digestion countdown also falls by one turn, to a minimum of two. After digestion reaches that minimum, bonus HP granted to Hydra increases with each subsequent devour starting with the fifth. The bonus continues to scale until the battle ends. Plan for rescue damage early; later marks give you much less time.
What each Hydra head does and how to respond
Use the table as a mechanic-to-role guide, not as a ranking of Champions. The head effects are drawn from Plarium’s official rules and, where noted, the BlueStacks Hydra guide. Which threats matter most depends on the four heads active in your rotation.

| Head | Threat | Team response |
|---|---|---|
| Torment | Fear disrupts Champions; its passive punishes attacks made without Perfect Veil. | Consider dependable Perfect Veil coverage or another way to manage Fear. (BlueStacks) |
| Decay | Can apply 100% Heal Reduction. Its passive also reduces allied MAX HP when they are healed. Life Barrier absorbs damage before the head’s HP, cannot be manipulated like an ordinary buff, and fully heals the head if it is not depleted in time; breaking it stuns the head for one turn. | Do not depend on repeated healing alone for sustain. Include mitigation or other survival tools where your roster allows. (Plarium; BlueStacks) |
| Blight | Poison Cloud blocks hostile Poison damage and makes attacks against covered heads count as Weak Hits. | HP Burn cancels Poison Cloud’s effects, making it a useful answer when Blight is active. (Plarium) |
| Suffering | Pain Link duplicates 15% of damage it takes onto a linked Champion, while Suffering still takes the full damage. It also provides defensive support. | Be mindful of the linked ally when using heavy attacks. (Plarium; BlueStacks) |
| Mischief | Steals buffs and redirects attacks, disrupting buff coverage and target selection. | Spread buffs thoughtfully and plan how to maintain target selection. The BlueStacks guide identifies Hex as a way to switch off the redirect passive. (BlueStacks) |
| Wrath | Vengeance makes its attacks deal 400% damage while active. The BlueStacks guide says Wrath builds a counter from incoming hits and retaliates at 15 hits. | Protect the team against the amplified attack and be cautious with multi-hit attacks. (Plarium; BlueStacks) |
The BlueStacks guide also reports shared Hydra immunities and caps, including limits on enemy-MAX-HP-scaling skill damage and each HP Burn tick. Those precise caps are not confirmed by the official support material cited here, so check the current in-game information before relying on specific cap values.
How exposed necks and regrown heads affect damage timing
When a head reaches zero HP, it becomes an Exposed Neck with its own HP bar equal to the combined HP of two Hydra heads. The neck cannot act for several turns and takes 200% damage, creating a valuable damage window—if you can spare the attacks without jeopardizing a rescue or your team’s survival.

A new head grows after two turns or when the exposed neck is killed. It may be the same head or a substitute. Plarium says the original head is more likely to return on lower difficulties, while a substitute is more likely on higher difficulties.

A regrown head has Serpent’s Will until it takes a turn, reducing incoming damage by 100%. When two heads regrow on the same turn, only one gains the buff, and no more than three Serpent’s Will buffs can be active at once. Avoid spending major attacks into this protection; prioritize an urgent rescue or survival action if one is needed, then take advantage of the exposed neck or attack the new head after its buff expires.

How to choose the best team for your roster
“Best” means the team that handles the current heads and difficulty with the Champions and gear you actually have. No universal named lineup, current tier list, performance-tested build, or stat threshold is established here. Judge candidate teams by the jobs they can do, not by a fixed ranking.
- Survive the fight: Bring enough durability and protection to withstand the active heads. Block Damage, Unkillable and strong Shields are options cited by the BlueStacks guide, not guaranteed solutions.
- Answer the active mechanics: Account for Fear from Torment, Poison Cloud from Blight, Decay’s healing penalty, Mischief’s buff theft and redirection, and Wrath’s amplified attacks. If Suffering is active, remember its damage link when choosing heavy attacks.
- Rescue marked allies: Make sure your team can damage the head holding a Champion before digestion expires. The window gets shorter as the battle continues.
- Use damage safely: Take advantage of exposed-neck windows and avoid wasting high-value attacks into Serpent’s Will. Survival and rescue take priority when they are urgent.
- Plan across all three keys: Reserve viable Champions for separate weekly battles; the one-use-per-week rule rewards a deeper set of workable teams.
Before committing a lineup, use this sequence:
- Inspect the current month’s four starter heads, two substitutes and affinities in-game.
- Identify which mechanics need an answer and choose Champions that cover those needs without leaving the team too fragile.
- Check that the team can survive and deliver rescue damage within the shrinking mark and digestion windows.
- Decide when it can safely focus damage on exposed necks, rather than attacking a head protected by Serpent’s Will.
- Spread Champions among your weekly keys instead of planning to reuse one lineup.
When Quick Battle and Hydra rewards matter
Plarium describes Quick Battle as an optional auto-run that completes in seconds. It is available only a limited number of times per week and requires reaching the highest chest damage threshold on that difficulty, which also unlocks Quick Battle on easier difficulties. Once started, you cannot intervene. It is a convenience for a battle whose damage threshold you have already demonstrated, not a way to bypass team planning.
For historical context, Plarium’s 2024 Hydra Update FAQ said changes were intended to limit very long battles exploiting specific vulnerabilities and to make Hydra Clash fairer. It also said the aim was to keep Trunda useful while bringing her Hydra damage into line with other Champions. Plarium wrote, “We aim for a better balance in this game mode in the long term.” That statement describes the publisher’s 2024 intent; it is not a current team ranking or guarantee about later balance changes.
