In Ragnarok X: Next Generation, choosing a job means choosing a progression path, not just a starting role. Jobs branch into specializations with different combat identities, and the available jobs and change rules can vary by server region and update. Check your own client’s job tree before committing to a path: the examples below explain how to compare options, but they are not a single, universal roster.
How job progression works
A job family can branch into specializations that suit different approaches to combat. The official Swordsman job page, for example, presents AGI Swordsman, Spear Knight, and VIT Knight as distinct approaches. That is a useful reminder that the family name alone does not tell you how every later specialization will play.
Before choosing, open the job tree in your game client and note the first, second, and advanced jobs currently available on your server. Compare the actual branches there rather than assuming that a guide for another region or an older update describes your options.

These official descriptions illustrate different roles and playstyles. They are examples, not a complete or synchronized tree for every region.

Choose by the role and combat loop you enjoy
There is no supported universal “best class” ranking here: the available official examples do not provide comparable performance data across all jobs. Instead, use the current job tree to identify the role and moment-to-moment playstyle that fit you.
- Frontline or melee: Look for branches whose descriptions and skills emphasize close-range combat or taking hits. The Swordsman family examples show that even a melee family can branch into different approaches.
- Ranged damage or area control: Check whether a branch centers on ranged attacks, traps, or other ways to control space. Ranger is an official example of an archery-and-trap identity.
- Magic: Read the class description and skill list for the kind of spellcasting it emphasizes. Warlock is described around elemental spell combinations.
- Support and healing: If you want to help a party stay alive as well as contribute damage, look for support-focused descriptions. Archbishop is described as a healing and support specialist that also uses offensive Holy magic.
- Utility or a distinctive toolkit: Check the listed skills and class features rather than inferring a role from the name. The cited Mechanic announcement mentions specialized tools but is not detailed enough to support a particular build recommendation.
For each candidate branch, inspect its job description and skills in your own client, then consider whether you prefer close-range or ranged play, burst or sustained damage, area control, or party support. The examples above establish class identities, not which one performs best for your character, party, or server.

Advanced-job requirements depend on the update
An official 3rd Class announcement gave one specific progression route: Job Level 70 or above, completion of a Glast Heim Churchyard quest, and three tests for the classes covered by that announcement. Treat those requirements as an update-era example, not as a guaranteed current rule for every region or advanced job.
Check the job-change instructions shown in your client before planning around a level threshold or quest. The roster itself can change: official announcements have documented Super Novice for the Original Love server and Arcanist in a June 16, 2026 Steam update. Those notices illustrate why a path available on one server or version should not be assumed to exist on another.

Can you change your class later?
Class conversion is region- and version-dependent, so it is no longer accurate to say universally that a player cannot change jobs. A Ragnarok X: Next Generation Europe/Middle East notice published June 26, 2026 announced that class conversion would open July 14, 2026. For that regional notice, the stated prerequisites were reaching second class, Job Level 30 or higher, and completing the class-change guide quest.
That notice does not establish that conversion is available on every region or server, or that the same prerequisites apply elsewhere. Check your client’s current class-change feature and quest instructions before choosing a job on the assumption that you can later switch. If conversion is unavailable to you, treat your initial branch choice as a longer-term commitment.

A practical checklist before committing
- Open the job tree in your current game client. Confirm which first, second, and advanced jobs are actually offered on your server.
- Compare the available branches by role. Decide whether you want frontline or melee play, ranged damage, magic, support and healing, or utility.
- Read the skills and class descriptions. Look for the combat approach you enjoy, such as close-range or ranged attacks, traps, elemental spells, or party support.
- Check the current advancement requirements. Use the instructions in your client rather than carrying over a level or quest requirement from an older announcement or another region.
- Verify whether class conversion is available to you. If it is, check its listed prerequisites; if it is not, choose with the expectation that the branch may be a lasting decision.
