RACQ Household Insurance offers home, contents and combined cover, but whether it suits you depends on the property, the cover you choose and the policy wording that applies to your start date. RACQ advertises protection for events such as storm, flood, hail, fire and theft, but limits, definitions and exclusions in your policy documents determine what is covered. There is no representative premium or like-for-like competitor quote here, so this review assesses advertised features and explains how to compare a quote rather than naming a universal best or worst option.

What does “household” insurance mean at RACQ?

RACQ uses Household Insurance as an umbrella for home (building) insurance, contents insurance, or both together. The right type depends on your situation:

  • Home insurance: for the insured building and eligible fixed features. Owners should compare the building sum insured with a realistic rebuild cost.
  • Contents insurance: for belongings such as furnishings, electronics and artwork. Renters may need contents cover without insuring the building.
  • Combined home and contents: one policy arrangement for the building and belongings at the insured address.
  • Landlord cover: RACQ includes landlord policies in its general guidance on storm and flood, but the applicable landlord documents determine the precise cover.

RACQ says more than 350,000 Queenslanders held a Household Insurance policy covering home, contents or both, based on company data as at 12 April 2026. That indicates the product’s reported reach, not customer satisfaction or claim quality. RACQ Household Insurance

What does RACQ Home and Contents Insurance cover?

RACQ advertises cover for loss or damage associated with storm, flood, hail, theft, accident, vandalism and fire. Its home-insurance explainer lists 14 insured events: animal damage, earthquake, explosion, fire, flood, impact, leaks, lightning, riots, storm, storm surge, theft, tsunami and vandalism. The product page also describes up to $20 million in legal liability at the insured address, new-for-old replacement of home contents, and a lifetime guarantee on repairs completed through RACQ’s supplier network. These are summary descriptions, not a substitute for the applicable PDS and any supplementary changes: definitions, limits, conditions and exclusions can affect a claim. Which benefits cost extra or are optional?

RACQ’s contents product page identifies accidental damage as an optional Advanced Cover add-on for an extra premium. Examples include spilling liquid on electronics, dropping a television or knocking over artwork; do not assume these accidents are covered on every contents policy. RACQ also describes motor burnout for domestic electrical items up to 10 years old as optional. Check the policy wording for definitions, eligibility, limits and exclusions before relying on either benefit. RACQ Contents Insurance

The same page advertises up to 5% off each eligible policy when a policyholder has three or more eligible RACQ policies. Eligibility and offer terms apply; confirm them with RACQ rather than assuming the discount applies to every policy or quote. RACQ Contents Insurance

Which policy documents apply to your cover?

RACQ’s document index identifies Household Insurance PDS RHHB2.1224 for new covers and renewals starting from 9 December 2024. The version that governs an existing policy depends on its cover start date, so do not assume the latest online document automatically applies to an older policy. Check your certificate and the PDS and any SPDS identified for your policy period. RACQ Household Insurance policy documents

How to compare an RACQ quote with another policy

Premiums depend on address and selected cover. A meaningful comparison needs the same property details, sums insured, excesses and optional benefits; a headline price alone cannot show whether the cover is equivalent.

  1. Choose the cover type: building, contents, combined cover or landlord insurance, based on whether you own, rent or lease out the property.
  2. Set realistic sums insured: estimate the cost to rebuild the home and replace belongings, not the property’s market value or an arbitrary round number.
  3. Compare covered events and exclusions: read definitions, limits and any special restrictions relevant to the home and its contents.
  4. Separate included benefits from options: check whether accidental damage and motor burnout are selected and priced into the quote.
  5. Compare excesses and liability: check the amount you would pay for a claim and the liability limit under each policy.
  6. Review claims and repairs: compare the stated claims process and repair arrangements in policy documents. Treat individual accounts as anecdotes, not evidence of typical outcomes.
  7. Obtain live quotes on matching assumptions: use the same address, sums insured, excesses and options for each insurer. No representative RACQ premium or matched competitor quote is established here.

RACQ recommends reading the PDS, any SPDS, KFS and TMD when assessing inclusions, exclusions, limits and intended suitability. Start with those documents rather than marketing summaries. RACQ policy documents

What can the available claims evidence tell you?

RACQ’s FY24 organizational report lists average satisfaction with home-insurance claims as 87.8% for FY24, 81.5% for FY23 and 83.5% for FY22. These are RACQ-reported figures, not an independent comparison with other insurers, and they do not by themselves predict an individual customer’s experience. RACQ annual reports

Who should consider RACQ Household Insurance?

RACQ is worth including in a comparison if you need home, contents, combined or landlord cover in Queensland and want to assess its stated insured events, optional benefits and repair arrangements against your needs. Whether it is suitable or good value for you cannot be determined without your address, cover choices, excess and the policy wording for your dates. Compare complete, like-for-like quotes and read the applicable documents before deciding.
