RACQ Comprehensive Car Insurance can cover damage to your car and damage you cause to other people’s vehicles or property in a range of situations, subject to the policy terms. It does not include RACQ Roadside Assistance: breakdown help is a separate service. Whether the insurance is worth buying depends on your individual quote, excess, vehicle value, coverage needs and the applicable policy wording.
What RACQ says comprehensive car insurance covers
RACQ describes its comprehensive policy as covering vehicle damage and damage to other people’s vehicles or property in a range of scenarios, including accidents, theft, vandalism and natural disasters such as hail, flood and fire. The exact events covered, limits and exclusions depend on the policy wording that applies to your quote.
RACQ also advertises a choice of repairer and a lifetime repair guarantee when it authorizes a claim and you use an RACQ Selected Repairer. It describes towing and storage after an accident or theft, subject to stated conditions and limits. Check the RACQ Comprehensive Car Insurance page and the applicable Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and supplementary documents for the full terms, including any optional benefits.
Comprehensive car insurance is not legally compulsory in Queensland or elsewhere in Australia, according to RACQ. It is a voluntary way to insure against covered vehicle damage and certain liabilities.

Does RACQ comprehensive insurance include roadside assistance?
No. RACQ states: “RACQ Car Insurance policies do not include Roadside Assistance cover.” If you want help with breakdowns, you need to consider roadside assistance separately. The two products address different risks: RACQ’s roadside terms, effective 2 July 2026, say, “Roadside Assistance does not cover you for an Insurable Event and is not a substitute for motor vehicle insurance.”
RACQ lists the following annual roadside prices as valid from 1 January 2026. Services and entitlements vary by tier and are subject to conditions, vehicle eligibility and possible additional charges; check RACQ’s current Roadside Assistance information and terms and conditions before choosing.

RACQ’s comprehensive insurance page advertises a $50 online discount, a multi-policy discount of up to 5% for customers with at least three eligible RACQ policies, and a no-claim discount of up to 60%. These are conditional offers or maximums, not a guaranteed saving or proof that discounts can be combined. Ask RACQ how they apply to your particular premium and cover start date.

RACQ separately lists insurance discounts for members, including a $50 amount for cover effective on or after 4 March 2026. Eligibility and terms apply. RACQ says membership is available with eligible products and that some purchases automatically grant membership, subject to exclusions and terms. Check the current insurance discount information and membership terms; compare the final quoted premium rather than adding advertised maximums together.

A general review cannot establish the price you will pay or predict how a future claim will be decided. RACQ’s product page explains what the company advertises, but it is not an individualized quote or a substitute for the PDS. To judge value, compare an actual RACQ quote with alternatives using the same vehicle and driver details, cover period and vehicle value basis.

- Premium and value basis: Confirm the premium for the same period and how the car’s value is treated in the quote.
- Excess: Compare the standard excess and any optional excesses, and consider what you could afford to pay if you claim.
- Coverage details: Read inclusions, exclusions, limits and optional benefits, including hire-car or windscreen terms if they matter to you.
- Repairs and recovery: Check repairer-choice conditions and guarantees, plus towing, storage, emergency repairs and claim procedures.
- Discount eligibility: Confirm which discounts apply to your cover and how they affect the final premium.
- Breakdown cover: Price roadside assistance separately if you want it; do not assume it is part of the insurance.
RACQ’s FY25 annual report reports a net promoter score of 67.6 for the member relationship. That is an RACQ-reported relationship measure, not a comprehensive-insurance claims satisfaction score or independent evidence of a particular claim outcome. No like-for-like competing-provider rates or product-specific independent claims-handling dataset are established here, so there is no sound basis to call RACQ the cheapest or best insurer. Review the applicable PDS, supplementary PDS and Target Market Determination before deciding.
