RACQ Annual Multi-Trip covers an unlimited number of eligible leisure trips during a 12-month policy period, but each trip must stay within the selected 30-, 45- or 60-day limit shown in the policy wording or Certificate of Insurance. Its most important limitation is easy to miss: for the Australian portion of a journey, it does not cover medical, hospital, dental or evacuation expenses.
This review reflects RACQ’s Combined Financial Services Guide and Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), effective 31 March 2026. Which wording applies depends on your cover start date, so existing policyholders should check their Certificate of Insurance and applicable PDS. The policy is issued by Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd.; RACQ’s benefits page is a summary, not a substitute for the policy terms.
How RACQ Annual Multi-Trip works
The plan is designed for people making multiple leisure trips in a 12-month period. RACQ’s PDS says: “Our Annual Multi-Trip can be a good alternative if You plan to make multiple Trips over a 12 month period.” The number of trips is unlimited, but the maximum duration applies separately to each trip. Policy sums insured are reinstated when each trip is completed.

- Where it applies: It covers international travel and Australian trips more than 250 km from your home.
- Trip purpose: It is leisure cover, not cover for corporate or business travel.
- International destinations: Include the countries and regions you plan to visit when buying the policy. RACQ says destinations affect the premium; contact RACQ about later changes, which may also affect the premium.
For international trips, the journey must begin and end in Australia. Domestic trips must remain within Australia. The policy must be purchased before the trip starts.

What does RACQ travel insurance cover?
For Annual Multi-Trip international travel, the PDS lists the following headline limits. They are policy limits, not unconditional promises to pay: definitions, eligibility, exclusions, excesses and sub-limits apply. Some item limits are contained within the overall luggage limit.

These figures come from the RACQ PDS. Check the benefit definitions and relevant sub-limits there before relying on a headline amount.
Where the cover has an important gap
Annual Multi-Trip does not cover medical, hospital, dental or evacuation expenses for the Australian portion of a journey. The overseas medical and emergency limits therefore should not be read as domestic medical cover. If protection for treatment or evacuation within Australia is important, this plan’s stated benefits do not provide it.

Who can buy it and who can be insured
The PDS allows cover up to age 75 and sets citizenship, permanent-residency or qualifying Australian-visa requirements. Qualifying visa holders must meet stated conditions that include a valid Medicare card, an Australian primary residence and, for international plans, a return ticket. Check the PDS eligibility criteria against each traveller’s circumstances.
A policy may cover up to two adults and eligible named dependants. RACQ’s summary describes eligible dependants as qualifying children, stepchildren, foster children or grandchildren aged 25 or younger when the policy is purchased. They must be financially dependent, not working full time, travel with the insured for the entire trip and be listed on the certificate. Medical assessment conditions apply.
Decisions to check before buying
Excess and destinations
Annual Multi-Trip excess choices are $0, $100 or $250; the selected excess appears on the Certificate of Insurance and affects the premium. Destinations also affect the price, so declare the countries and regions you expect to visit rather than assuming all destinations are included.

Medical conditions
The PDS distinguishes conditions covered automatically when stated criteria are met from conditions that require assessment if you want cover. Do not assume a condition is covered based on its name or on another traveller’s experience. Disclose information accurately and confirm the insurer’s decision for the people insured.
Cruises
River cruising is included automatically. Ocean cruises may require the optional Cruise Benefits option, and the PDS gives separate instructions for Australian and international cruises. Confirm how your specific itinerary must be declared before purchase.
Skiing, winter sports and other activities
Cover for accidents while skiing or participating in winter sports requires selecting the Ski and Winter Sports option. The PDS also excludes or restricts some activities, including skiing without that option, certain high-altitude trekking and mountain biking, backcountry skiing, professional sport and some climbing or aerial activities. Other activities may be covered only under stated conditions, so check the activity list against your itinerary.

COVID-19-related cancellation
RACQ’s product summary states a maximum $10,000 cancellation benefit for COVID-19-related claims on Premium and Annual Multi-Trip. The PDS extends cover only in specified sections, while excluding other pandemic- or epidemic-related claims. The summary figure is not a blanket promise of cancellation cover; consult the wording for the circumstances and sections that apply.

There is no generally supported price or value verdict without a quote based on a particular traveller and itinerary. Compare like with like using these factors:

- How many trips you expect to take and whether every trip fits the selected maximum duration.
- International medical and emergency limits, cancellation limit, luggage limit and individual-item sub-limits.
- Your age, residency status and any medical-condition assessment requirements.
- The domestic medical, dental and evacuation limitation, especially if any trip includes substantial Australian travel.
- Whether an ocean cruise, winter sports or another restricted activity requires an option or special declaration.
RACQ says members save 15% on the premium payable, excluding GST, stamp duty and other taxes; the offer can be amended or withdrawn. Confirm eligibility and the applicable quote directly with RACQ rather than treating the discount as a fixed price.

Claims and assistance
Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. issues the policy and is responsible for the PDS contents. Tokio Marine Management (Australasia) Pty Ltd acts as managing agent and is authorised to provide policies and handle and settle claims.
For overseas medical or repatriation emergencies, the PDS provides a 24-hour assistance number. Contact the assistance team as soon as reasonably practicable if you are hospitalised or expect outpatient consultation or treatment to exceed $2,000. The PDS warns that failing to seek approval may affect the amount payable. Use the number and instructions in your policy documents.
