Rabb.it shut down in 2019, but the right replacement depends on what your group wants to watch. For a supported subscription streaming service, consider a synchronization tool such as Scener or Teleparty. For a more flexible shared room with live text chat, Watch2Gether is another option—but its homepage does not establish that every subscription service works with it.
Before choosing, check the video source, each participant’s access to it, and the devices everyone can use. The categories below explain the trade-offs; the service details are based on vendor pages checked October 7, 2026.
Choose by what you want to watch
There is no universal replacement for Rabb.it. Group-watching tools generally use different approaches, and a service suited to one kind of video may not work for another.

Each participant may need access to the service, and the specific title must be available in their region.
- Flexible watch rooms: A room-based service can synchronize playback and provide chat, but that does not mean it supports every paid streaming platform. Confirm that your intended source works before inviting the group.
- Public-video rooms: These focus on watching video together in a shared room. Check the room service’s supported sources rather than assuming subscription catalogs are included.
- Local-media synchronization: This approach coordinates playback of files participants already have. It is a different fit from streaming a show through a subscription account.

Which current options fit common setups?
| Service | Best fit based on its stated features | Setup and devices | Chat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scener | Groups using supported major streaming platforms in sync | Laptop or desktop running Google Chrome, with the free Scener Chrome Extension | Video, audio, and text chat; private invite-only and public parties |
| Teleparty | Groups watching a supported streaming service, with browser and mobile options | Desktop extensions for Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Opera; Android and iOS apps. Smart TVs and gaming consoles are unsupported. Its mobile apps support fewer services than its browser extension. | Free tier includes text chat; voice and video chat are Premium features |
| Watch2Gether | Groups wanting a private synchronized room with live text chat | Vendor describes access on phones, tablets, laptops, and Smart TVs; it also advertises Windows software and iOS and Android apps | Live text chat |
These device and feature descriptions are published by the services themselves, not independent compatibility tests. Scener describes synchronized viewing from major streaming platforms, while Watch2Gether’s homepage does not establish compatibility with every paid streaming service. Check the intended source and title before settling on either.
Scener: Chrome desktop and richer conversation
Scener describes itself as a free service for watching shows and movies socially from major streaming platforms in sync. Its setup instructions call for a laptop or desktop running Google Chrome and the free Scener Chrome Extension. The company says parties can include video, audio, and text chat, and can be private by invitation or public. Verify that the particular service and title are available to your group before starting.

It says smart TVs and gaming consoles are not supported, and that its mobile apps currently support fewer services than its browser extension.

Watch2Gether: a room for synchronized playback
Watch2Gether describes private rooms entered with an invite code, synchronized playback, adaptive bitrate, and live chat. Its page advertises access on phones, tablets, laptops, and Smart TVs, plus Windows software version 2.4.0 for Windows 10 or 11 and iOS and Android apps. These are vendor-reported capabilities, not a guarantee that a particular streaming source or device combination will work. Check your intended source first.

Check access for every participant
For a subscription-sync service, confirm that everyone can access the streaming service being used. Teleparty explicitly says each participant needs access to that service’s account. For friends in different countries, also check that the title appears in each person’s regional catalog; Teleparty warns that both services and titles may vary by country.
Do not assume that one person’s subscription makes a title available to everyone, or that a service’s general compatibility claim covers every title. Resolve account access and regional availability before choosing a start time.

- Everyone has a Chrome laptop or desktop: Scener’s stated setup may suit a group seeking synchronized streaming and video, audio, and text chat.
- Your group needs mobile access: Teleparty lists Android and iOS apps, but its mobile apps support fewer services than its browser extension. Check the title and service on the devices participants plan to use.
- Some participants want a Smart TV: Watch2Gether advertises Smart TV access; Teleparty says smart TVs are unsupported. Confirm the source and setup on the actual devices before the gathering.
- Someone lacks a camera or microphone: Video chat is optional for synchronized playback. A generic USB webcam with a microphone may help a desktop participant who lacks adequate built-in equipment, but no particular hardware is required by the cited service descriptions.
Know what chat and paid tiers include
Chat features differ. Scener describes video, audio, and text chat; Watch2Gether describes live text chat. Teleparty says its free tier provides basic synchronization and text chat on listed supported services, while Premium adds supported services and features including voice and video chat.
Teleparty’s support page listed Premium at $6.59 per month or $3.99 per month when billed annually, a $47.88 annual total, with a seven-day trial for the annual plan. A quick decision checklist
- Name the video source. Is it a supported subscription platform, another online source, or a local file?
- Check every participant’s access. For subscription services, confirm account access and regional title availability.
- Check devices and installation. Confirm whether the group can use a browser extension, app, or the advertised room access on its devices.
- Choose the chat you need. Decide whether text is enough or whether the group wants voice or video, then check whether those features require a paid tier.
- Test the exact setup. Verify the intended title and devices before the event; a service’s broad description is not proof that every source works.
