RAA Premium is most useful for drivers who regularly travel long distances, especially outside metropolitan areas. It combines longer country attendance and towing limits with away-from-home help, but its $24.49 monthly instalment price was a dated RAA listing checked on 7 October 2026—not a guaranteed quote. Whether it is worth paying for depends on how often you travel beyond home and whether you would use its capped benefits.
What RAA Premium covers—and who it covers
RAA Personal Road Service is roadside assistance for an individual, not a particular car. RAA says the member is covered in any car they drive, and describes the service as available 24/7 Australia-wide. Premium is the top of RAA’s three personal tiers—Standard, Plus and Premium—and is positioned for long-distance drivers. RAA’s comparison page sets out the published benefits.
Interstate assistance is arranged through sister clubs. In another state, the local club’s equivalent base-level product applies; additional services may cost extra, with possible reimbursement subject to limits. Check the applicable terms before relying on a Premium-level benefit away from South Australia.

How much does RAA Premium cost?
RAA displayed Premium at $24.49 per month for 12 months, or $293 per year, on its comparison page accessed on 7 October 2026. RAA notes that monthly instalments can vary slightly for rounding without changing the total premium payable. Treat this as a dated listing: confirm the current price and annual total with RAA before buying.

What Premium adds for breakdowns
The following are RAA’s published limits, not guarantees that a particular job will be completed at no charge. Eligibility, terms and exclusions apply.
Attendance and towing
- Country attendance: up to 200 km from the designated RAA Country Service Depot to the breakdown location.
- Metro towing: up to 50 km to your home or chosen repairer if the vehicle cannot be made roadworthy at the roadside.
- Country towing: up to 200 km to a designated country depot. Alternatively, towing up to 50 km in any direction from the breakdown location or depot is capped at $470 per incident on the page reviewed.
- Specialised or heavy towing: up to $300 per year where standard towing equipment cannot be used, including some caravans or towed units. Restrictions apply.
- Second tow: if the first tow could only take the vehicle to safety, RAA lists a second tow to the nominated repairer within 14 days.
Distance limits and cash caps are different: a stated towing distance does not mean RAA will pay an unlimited amount for every tow. In particular, the alternative country-tow option has a $470 per-incident cap.

Common roadside problems
- Battery: RAA can diagnose a flat or faulty battery and provide a jump-start or offer to sell an RAA battery, installed without charge. Premium members receive a $20 discount on an RAA battery.
- Fuel: emergency fuel is available for sale in an amount intended to reach the nearest fuel outlet.
- Lockout: lockout assistance is listed; if a locksmith is needed because the vehicle or caravan is disabled, the locksmith contribution is capped at $150 per year.
- Flat tyre: RAA can change a wheel if you have a suitable spare.
- Taxi: up to $55 per year when the vehicle is eligible for towing.
- Other covered items: RAA lists Road Service for caravans and trailers, bicycles and mobility scooters, subject to the applicable guide.
Unlimited call-outs are conditional
Premium is listed with unlimited call-outs, subject to RAA’s excessive-use terms. That does not make it general accident recovery or insurance. RAA says that for a crash tow in South Australia, members should contact the SA Government Accident Towing Service and then discuss next steps with their insurer.

Help when a breakdown happens away from home
RAA’s comparison page lists away-from-home benefits when you are more than 100 km from home and the vehicle cannot be repaired at the roadside. Premium is shown with up to five nights of accommodation and up to seven days of hire car, subject to daily and monetary limits. Vehicle recovery is listed up to $2,000 per subscription year if the vehicle cannot be repaired within 48 hours. Passenger transport may also be available, subject to conditions and caps.

The benefit is not simply a fixed package paid automatically. RAA’s selector describes different choices depending on how long repairs take. If the vehicle can be repaired locally within 48 hours, it describes up to two nights’ accommodation and car hire within stated daily caps. If repairs take longer, options may include local accommodation and hire car, a hire car to travel home or onward, air or bus fares, or vehicle recovery to home or a destination. The selector also mentions transport assistance for passengers, pets and caravans or trailers within specified caps. A separate accommodation and hire-car benefit applies in some stolen-vehicle or crash situations.

When is Premium worth choosing over a lower tier?
RAA’s comparison page gives Premium-specific benefits, but a useful decision depends on your driving pattern and the exact entitlements of the lower tier. Compare the same dated guides for all three products before deciding; do not assume a lower tier has no equivalent benefit simply because a Premium limit is highlighted.

- Put a value on the away-from-home benefits. Accommodation, hire car, passenger transport and recovery may matter more than extra call-outs if a breakdown strands you far from home.
- Check whether capped extras fit your likely needs. Specialised towing, a locksmith contribution and taxi support have annual or incident limits; compare those limits with likely out-of-pocket costs.
- Factor in individual membership. Since cover applies to the person, each family member who needs cover requires their own product. A single membership should not be treated as household-wide cover.
- Compare the annual cost with your travel habits. The listed annual price is only one input; the value depends on whether you use the longer-distance and away-from-home protections.
Conditions to check before joining or claiming
RAA’s selector and Help Centre describe restrictions for early use and pre-existing breakdowns. In applicable circumstances, it displays a service fee of $154 for new members and $114 for existing members. Away-from-home benefits do not apply during the first 48 hours or to pre-existing breakdowns. RAA also identifies call-outs booked within 48 hours of purchase as restricted or potentially fee-bearing situations. Confirm how the rules apply to your circumstances before relying on cover.

RAA publishes entitlement guides according to the purchase or renewal date. Its guide page offers a Personal Road Service guide for cover purchased or renewed on or after 1 July 2026, a separate guide for 1 July 2025 through 30 June 2026, and a guide for earlier active cover. Does RAA Premium cover friends and family?
No: RAA says Personal Road Service applies to the individual member, rather than automatically covering friends or family travelling with them. Each person who needs the membership’s driver-based cover needs their own product. RAA’s published benefits explain limits and eligibility, but they do not establish independent response-time statistics, customer-satisfaction results or breakdown-outcome data. This review can assess the listed terms, not claim that Premium produces faster attendance or better service in practice.
