Choose Wayground (formerly Quizizz) if you need several kinds of learning activities, flexible question formats, reporting, or school integrations. Choose Gimkit if you want classroom review built around game modes and want an educator account that remains free after its trial period. Neither is universally better, and the available product information does not establish that either produces stronger learning outcomes.
What changed: Quizizz is now Wayground
Quizizz has been renamed Wayground. The company says its website moved to wayground.com, while existing accounts, classes, resources, join links, and integrations remained available; old Quizizz links redirect. Quizizz Inc. remains the legal entity. The company’s help article, updated November 4, 2025, said the core product experience stayed the same at that time. Wayground explains the name change and what carried over.
How the teaching workflows differ
The practical distinction is not fun versus serious: both products use game elements. Wayground offers a broader mix of activity formats, while Gimkit centers classroom review on game modes and their mechanics.

- Your school uses a listed classroom or learning-management integration.
Check the plan’s feature gates before building a workflow around any particular format, report, AI feature, or integration. Wayground’s comparison describes broader reporting and content options, but it does not prove an instructional advantage.
Choose Gimkit for game-mode-centered review
- You want the review activity itself to revolve around game modes, in-game currency, and power-ups.
- You value keeping an educator account on a free plan after any trial ends.
- Your routine does not depend on a particular integration or reporting capability that has not been established in the available comparison.

Check Wayground’s current plan comparison. Gimkit says students can join live games and assignments without accounts; accounts are needed for classes or for earning XP and purchasing cosmetics, according to its Account FAQ. Avoid relying on older third-party price claims without checking the current checkout.

How to make a fair choice
- Start with your lesson. Decide whether students need a game-based review session or a mix of assessments and other learning formats.
- Identify the information you need afterward. If you use results to target reteaching, open the actual reports and confirm the fields and export options you require.
- Check your constraints. Compare class size, free-plan limits, the specific paid features you need, and any school roster or LMS requirements.
- Try the same activity in each tool. Use the same class and learning goal so you can judge setup, pacing, and the student experience on a like-for-like basis.
- For a school-wide decision, verify procurement needs. Ask about administration, accessibility, content moderation, privacy, integrations, and current regional quotes.
There is no controlled head-to-head classroom test or independent learning-outcome comparison established here. The decision is therefore best made by checking the features you will actually use, not by treating a vendor comparison or engagement claim as proof that one platform teaches better.
