Queensland Country Bank Home Contents Plus is contents insurance for eligible strata owners, not a replacement for the building insurance arranged by a body corporate. Queensland Country Bank distributes the cover under an agreement with Insurance Australia Limited (IAG), using the CGU brand. The public summary describes the broad offer, but the applicable Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), quote and policy certificate determine the cover, exclusions, limits and price for an individual policy.
Who provides the policy, and what does it cover?
Queensland Country Bank is the distributor; Insurance Australia Limited is the insurer, and the insurance is offered under the CGU brand. The bank says it acts under its own Australian financial services licence and under its agreement with IAG. Queensland Country Bank’s product information describes contents cover, while the product-specific CHOICE listing identifies it as a standard sum insured policy: the customer nominates a contents sum insured rather than relying on an unlimited replacement-cost promise.
The exact insured events, exclusions, item limits and optional covers are controlled by the current PDS and the policy certificate. A public product summary is a useful starting point, not a substitute for those documents.

Contents insurance and a body corporate’s building insurance address different risks. Queensland Country Bank’s general guidance says personal belongings generally are not covered by building insurance unless contents cover applies. The actual boundary depends on the strata scheme’s arrangements and the wording of both policies, so check the body corporate policy as well as your own contents policy. The bank’s guidance on contents cover also emphasizes that cover varies by policy.
#1 Best Overall

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Fixtures need particular care. CHOICE’s public listing describes some permanent fixtures as covered, while indicating that items insured by the owners corporation or forming part of common property are excluded. Do not assume that a particular appliance, fitting or improvement belongs under one policy: confirm its status with the body corporate and check the current PDS.
What the public listing says about features
CHOICE’s publicly visible listing describes a nominated contents sum insured and optional portable contents cover. It also lists features such as contents in the open air, debris removal, emergency storage, lock replacement after a break-in, motor burnout, spoiled food, visitors’ belongings, fixtures and cover while moving house. The public listing is not a complete set of current policy terms; verify each feature, its limits and exclusions in the PDS and certificate before relying on it.

Portable belongings
The listing describes portable contents cover with item-group limits, a per-item maximum, geographic restrictions and an excess. Those details can materially affect valuables taken outside the home. Check whether the specific items you need protected qualify, whether they need to be specified, and what excess and limits apply under the current wording.
Temporary accommodation for strata owner-occupiers
Queensland Country Bank says CGU covers reasonable temporary-accommodation costs after a covered event when the customer owns and lives in a home that is part of a strata or similar scheme. The bank notes that additional limits, exclusions and conditions apply. CHOICE’s public listing describes the benefit as up to 24 months or 20% of the sum insured, with costs paid on top of the sum insured; treat those figures as listing details to verify against the applicable PDS, not as a guarantee for every policy.

How to assess whether it suits your situation
There is no single value verdict without your quote, required cover and current policy wording. CHOICE’s public listing does not show its expert rating or a complete review, and the retrieved information does not establish a current premium. Get a quote and compare it with alternatives on an equivalent basis, including the excess.
- Sum insured: Check how the policy expects you to estimate replacement value and whether the nominated amount is adequate for your belongings.
- Events and exclusions: Compare cover for risks such as flood, storm and accidental damage rather than assuming every policy includes them on the same terms.
- Valuables and portable items: Review per-item and category sub-limits, any specified-item requirements, geographic limits and excesses.
- Additional benefits: Compare temporary accommodation and other benefits, including their qualifying events, caps, duration and conditions.
- Fixtures and shared property: Establish whether an item belongs to your lot or the owners corporation and which policy insures it.
- Total price: Compare premiums only after aligning cover and excesses; a lower premium may reflect narrower cover or higher out-of-pocket costs.
Documents to check before buying or claiming
- Obtain the current PDS applicable to the quote and read the sections on insured events, exclusions, limits, excesses and additional benefits.
- Check the quote and policy certificate for your selected sum insured, optional covers, listed or specified items, excess and any policy-specific conditions.
- Ask the body corporate for the relevant strata building-policy information, then clarify the boundary for fixtures or belongings whose ownership or insurance status is uncertain.
QBE publishes its own contents insurance information and PDS documents for renters and strata owner-occupiers. That can provide general market context, but it is a different insurer’s product and does not establish the terms of Queensland Country Bank’s CGU-arranged policy. QBE’s contents insurance information should not be used in place of the applicable Queensland Country Bank/CGU wording.
