Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit felt exciting to PhoneArena Editor-in-Chief Rad Slavov because it treated a technology keynote as a live performance, not just a product briefing. That is one attendee’s opinion—not proof that Qualcomm puts on objectively better events than Apple, Samsung, or Google.
What made the Summit feel different to one attendee?
Slavov attended Snapdragon Summit ’26 and, in an October 2, 2026 editorial, described an opening built around red lighting, a countdown, darkness, music, and dramatic sound. He also praised the stage presence and apparent command of the subject shown by presenters Don McGuire, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, Chris Patrick, and Lekha Motiwala. Those details explain his reaction; they are his observations, not independently measured qualities.
His verdict was personal: “And this is why I thoroughly enjoyed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit keynote, because it convinced me I’m part of something cool.” The point, as he framed it, was not a newly announced flagship phone or camera breakthrough. It was the feeling the company created while talking about technology.
Why does Slavov think some tech launches feel less lively?
Slavov’s explanation is a theory about presentation choices, not a finding about every company or event. Product specialists may have deep technical knowledge but less experience presenting; speakers can rely too heavily on scripts; and companies may avoid the risks of live demonstrations. Any of those choices can make a launch feel more like a prepared briefing than a shared occasion.

He contrasts the Summit with his impressions of Steve Jobs-era Apple presentations, Apple’s more recent produced launch format, Samsung Unpacked, and Google I/O. In his view, Apple moved toward prerecorded events after COVID, some Samsung presenters have seemed unfamiliar with their products, and Google I/O delivery can feel stiff. These criticisms should be read as Slavov’s impressions, not as a consensus or an objective ranking of the companies.
How can you judge a launch presentation for yourself?
There is no controlled comparison or audience-response data here that establishes which company gives the best keynote. If you want to assess the contrast, focus on the presentation itself rather than assuming that a more entertaining event means better products:
- Format: Is the event live, prerecorded, or a mix?
- Speakers: How much time goes to executives versus product specialists, and do they explain the material clearly?
- Demonstrations and production: Do the staging and demonstrations help communicate the technology, or mainly create spectacle?
- Technical accessibility: Can a viewer follow the details without already being an expert?

What does Qualcomm’s chip history add to the story?
Qualcomm’s presentation style sits alongside a longer company story of integrating more mobile capabilities into chipsets. In a company history published December 8, 2020, Qualcomm engineer Gil Sih described work spanning cellular data, audio, Bluetooth, GPS, video encoding and decoding, camera image processing, graphics, and modem/application processing. Sih wrote that Qualcomm introduced its first Snapdragon-branded processor in 2012, combining a quad-core CPU, a programmable GPU shader core, dual-camera support, and 4K video capability. These are Qualcomm’s own historical claims, not evidence about keynote quality. Qualcomm’s history of mobile innovation.
Qualcomm’s newsroom also lists a September 22, 2026 announcement about new mobile SoCs. Its title says the chips are “Two of the World’s Fastest Mobile SoCs”; that ranking language is Qualcomm’s claim, not independent comparative benchmark evidence. Qualcomm’s September 2026 announcement.
What the keynote does—and does not—show
A persuasive stage presentation can make complex work feel approachable and give a company a more distinctive personality. But enthusiasm about a keynote does not establish that its chips or the phones using them are superior. The available material supports Slavov’s account of why he enjoyed this Summit; it does not establish that Qualcomm events consistently outperform Apple, Samsung, or Google launches, or that a particular consumer device is the right one to buy.
