A coding agent can use music you like as a starting point for restaurant recommendations—but it does not develop human taste or make the decision on its own. In the qloo-taste-mcp example, the agent searches for artists or films, passes the matching entities to Qloo’s taste API, and asks for restaurant suggestions in a chosen location. The result is discovery, not a reservation.
How the music-to-restaurant recommendation works
The project describes a two-stage flow: identify what you like, then request recommendations in another category. For example, its prompt asks for a restaurant in Los Angeles based on a love of Taylor Swift and Wes Anderson films. That example illustrates the workflow; it is not evidence that every person’s music preferences predict their dining preferences.
- Find preference entities. The agent calls
qloo_searchto find artists, films, or other entities and retrieve their IDs. - Request cross-category recommendations. It passes those IDs to
qloo_recommend, with restaurants as the target category and a location such as Los Angeles. - Present candidate suggestions. The agent explains or summarizes the returned options. The described flow does not book a table or make a purchase.
Qloo’s official API documentation describes an Insights API for taste-based recommendations and analysis, with entity lookup, tags, trends, and location capabilities. Request parameters can include entities, tags, demographics, audiences, and location. In this setup, the language model handles the conversation and tool calls; Qloo supplies structured recommendation results.
What “taste” means here—and what it does not
“Taste” refers to associations represented through Qloo’s data and API, not a coding model’s personal experience or judgment. The system uses the preferences you name as signals for finding candidates. That can be a useful way to explore an unfamiliar category, but the available material does not establish recommendation accuracy, restaurant satisfaction, or a reliable statistical link between musical taste and dining choices.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Scale figures also need their source attached. The project describes its access as covering more than 250 million cultural entities; that is the project’s stated figure, not an independently confirmed current inventory count. Qloo’s Taste AI page gives company-published figures of more than 3.7 billion lifestyle entities and more than 10 trillion anonymized sentiment signals. Those figures describe different measures and should not be treated as a direct comparison.
What qloo-taste-mcp provides
The repository describes four tools for an MCP-compatible client:
Rank #2
- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
qloo_searchfinds entities and their IDs.qloo_recommendrequests recommendations based on selected entities.qloo_trendingreturns category trends.qloo_tagssearches Qloo’s taxonomy for tags that can help express preferences.
Entity-seeded recommendations are a natural fit when you can name a particular artist or film. Tags offer another route for describing preferences more broadly. The API documentation confirms that both entity and tag inputs are part of the service’s capabilities; the available sources do not benchmark which approach produces better results.

What you need to use the example
The repository says the MCP server uses Python 3.10 or later and standard-library components, and that a Qloo API key is required to make API calls. You also need an MCP-compatible client that can be configured to connect to the server; the project is an implementation example, not a universal setup for every coding agent.
Rank #3
- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The repository also describes a small web demo called Taste Match and says the API key stays on the server side. That is a project claim, not an independent security audit. Its tests are described as HTTP-mocked, so they do not demonstrate that the external API is live or verify the quality of recommendations.
How this differs from other ways to personalize recommendations
| Approach | What it does | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Hosted taste API | Uses a service such as Qloo to return recommendations from entities, tags, and other request parameters. | Requires the service’s API access and a way to connect it to the application or agent. |
| Hand-authored preference rules | Applies rules written by the developer, such as mapping a named artist or genre to a set of restaurant criteria. | Rules are explicit, but someone must create and maintain them; the sources do not provide a benchmark against a taste API. |
| MCP-connected coding agent | Lets an MCP-compatible agent call tools during a conversation, such as searching for entities and requesting recommendations. | Depends on client support and configuration; this repository does not establish compatibility with every agent. |
| Direct API integration | An app calls the recommendation API itself rather than routing requests through an MCP agent. | Can suit a purpose-built interface, but the available sources do not compare implementation effort or results. |
| Recommendation-only discovery | Returns ideas to explore, as in the described project. | Do not assume booking, availability checks, or payment; those steps are not part of the example. |
| Integrated reservation workflow | Would connect suggestions to a booking service or restaurant system. | That requires a separate integration; the described project does not show one. |
What the example proves—and what it leaves open
The project demonstrates a way to connect conversational preferences to a taste-recommendation API through MCP tools. It does not prove that music reliably predicts an individual’s restaurant preferences, that recommendations will be available or suitable, or that the system can complete a reservation. Treat the output as a starting list to evaluate, not as a personalized guarantee.
