QBANK Home Contents Plus is contents-only insurance that may suit renters who want at-home accidental-damage cover included. QBANK distributes the product; Insurance Australia Limited issues it under the CGU brand. The advertised benefits and limits are only a feature overview: your quote and policy documents determine your premium, excess, eligibility and actual cover.

What QBANK Home Contents Plus covers for renters

Contents insurance is for belongings, not a promise to insure the building you rent. QBANK distinguishes contents cover from building and combined cover. The page lists a range of insured events for both its Contents Standard and Contents Plus options; the exact definitions and conditions belong to the applicable policy wording.

QBANK’s comparison lists these events for both contents tiers:

  • Accidental breakage of glass, animal damage, and deliberate or intentional acts
  • Earthquake, escape of water or liquid, explosion, fire, flood or rainwater run-off
  • Impact, lightning, riot or civil commotion, storm, storm surge or tsunami
  • Theft or attempted theft, and liability

The page also lists removal of debris, replacement of keys and locks, funeral expenses and temporary accommodation for both tiers. A benefit heading does not establish an unlimited payout; check the policy wording and your Certificate of Insurance for applicable terms and limits.

What Plus adds over Standard

The clearest difference is at-home accidental damage: QBANK marks it as included with Contents Plus and optional with Contents Standard. Electrical motor burnout is also shown as included for Plus and optional for Standard. Plus lists other benefits including contents away from home, storage, open air, transit, food spoilage, identity theft, moving to a new home, owner fixtures in a strata scheme, storage costs, students living away from home and visitors’ belongings. Portable contents away from home and valuable contents inside the home are shown as optional, so do not assume they are included in a Plus quote.

For a renter, the practical question is whether the extra included cover and any optional benefits match the belongings and situations you need to protect. The product page does not establish how a particular claim will be assessed; read the relevant definitions, exclusions and sub-limits in the policy documents.

Limits and restrictions worth checking

  • Valuables: Works of art, collections, jewellery and watches share a $2,500 combined limit unless Valuable Contents cover is added.
  • Portable items: The page describes cover for loss, theft and accidental damage up to $10,000 per item unless the item is separately listed for a higher amount. Other limits apply outside Australia or New Zealand.
  • Visitors’ belongings: The published limit is $2,500.
  • Portable-item exclusions: The page names scratches and dents, items being cleaned or repaired, and certain equipment while in use—including fishing and sporting equipment, drones, musical instruments and firearms. Bicycles in competitive races or time trials are also named.
  • Storage: General contents in storage may be covered only if CGU is told before the move and accepts the items. Valuable contents are not covered in storage, according to the page.

These are visible summary limits, not a complete exclusions list. Ask how the policy treats shared-household belongings, business equipment, high-value items and proof of ownership; the page does not settle those questions.

Temporary accommodation when you rent

QBANK’s footnote says that when a customer has Contents Insurance and rents the home as a tenant, CGU pays reasonable extra rent costs for temporary accommodation. Further limits, exclusions and conditions apply. The page does not establish that every displacement qualifies or provide a fixed cash benefit, so check the policy wording for triggering events, limits and assessment rules.

How to assess the quote before deciding

The product page publishes no renter’s premium or actual excess. QBANK says excesses may apply and directs customers to the Certificate of Insurance and PDS for details. Compare a quote with another policy using the same household and belongings assumptions.

  • Premium and excess: Check the total cost, payment frequency, standard excess and any event-specific or optional-cover excesses.
  • Sum insured and settlement: Estimate what it would cost to replace your belongings. QBANK says its online contents calculation is a guide and that it pays actual repair or replacement cost rather than an inflated insured amount; confirm the settlement basis and selected sum in the policy documents.
  • Accidental damage: Verify which incidents are covered at home and what exclusions apply. Plus includes this benefit in QBANK’s comparison; Standard lists it as optional.
  • Portable belongings and valuables: Confirm whether you need the optional benefits, item limits, listing requirements, geographic restrictions and category sub-limits.
  • Housemates and insured people: Check who counts as an insured person and whether other occupants’ belongings qualify.
  • Moves and storage: Check notification requirements, accepted storage arrangements, transit cover and what evidence a claim requires.

QBANK describes its website information as general advice that does not account for an individual’s objectives, financial situation or needs. Consider your circumstances and read the current PDS, premium and excess information, and target market determination before deciding whether to purchase. The PDS, key fact sheet and target market determination linked from the product page were not accessible for verification here, so contract details and current eligibility should be confirmed directly before relying on them.

Who issues the policy?

QBANK says customers can choose home insurance through CGU. Its disclosure identifies QPCU Limited trading as QBANK as acting under its own Australian financial services licence and under an agreement with Insurance Australia Limited, which issues the product under the CGU brand. QBANK is the distributor, not the risk-bearing insurer.
