Choose PULSE Elite if you want the longer stated battery life, PlayStation Link switching across PS5, PC, Mac and PlayStation Portal, simultaneous Bluetooth audio, or a retractable boom microphone. Choose PULSE 3D if you mainly need Sony’s PS5/PS4 wireless headset with built-in game/chat controls and a 3.5 mm wired option for PS VR or mobile.
Those are feature-based recommendations. Sony’s published material does not provide a controlled, head-to-head test of sound quality, microphone quality, comfort, durability or long-term reliability, so neither model can be declared the universal winner on those points.
Quick comparison: PULSE Elite and PULSE 3D
Both headsets are designed for PlayStation gaming and support the PS5’s 3D Audio experience when a game supports it. The meaningful differences are battery claim, connection flexibility, microphone design, wired use and weight.
| Feature | Sony PULSE Elite | Sony PULSE 3D |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer-stated battery | Up to 30 hours; Sony says a 10-minute charge can provide up to two hours of use. Actual runtime varies with volume, connection and use. | Up to 12 hours at mid volume, according to the instruction manual. This is a different documentation condition from Elite’s claim. |
| Wireless connection | PlayStation Link through the included USB adapter; supported devices include PS5, PC, Mac and PlayStation Portal. | Wireless adapter support for PS5, PS4 and compatible Windows/macOS computers. |
| Bluetooth | Direct Bluetooth connection to compatible phones and tablets; PlayStation Link and Bluetooth audio can play simultaneously. | No Bluetooth capability is identified in Sony’s listed feature set. |
| Driver and 3D Audio positioning | Planar magnetic drivers; Sony says the design enhances perception in PS5 games that support 3D Audio. | Fine-tuned for the 3D Audio made possible by PS5 and also designed for PS4. |
| Microphone | Adjustable retractable boom microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection. | Two built-in noise-cancelling microphones. |
| Controls | Easy-access mute and volume controls. | Dedicated mic-monitoring button plus game/chat mix controls. |
| Wired option | Not identified as a 3.5 mm feature in the cited Elite materials. | 3.5 mm cable use is listed for PS VR and mobile; the built-in controls are not supported in those wired contexts. |
| Listed weight | Approximately 347 g in Sony’s safety-guide specification. | 292 g in Sony’s instruction manual. |
| Included items highlighted by Sony | PlayStation Link USB adapter and charging hanger. | Wireless adapter and 3.5 mm cable support are described; the cited product information does not identify a charging hanger. |
Battery figures are manufacturer claims rather than independent comparative measurements. Weight is a specification, not a comfort score: head shape, clamp force, padding and personal fit can matter more than the number on the scale.

Which headset is better for your setup?
Pick PULSE Elite for multi-device PlayStation Link use
Elite is the more flexible choice if one headset must move between a PS5, computer and PlayStation Portal. Its PlayStation Link adapter is intended for PS5, PC and Mac, while PlayStation Link support also extends to Portal. This gives you a single low-latency wireless path for those devices instead of maintaining separate headsets.
The adapter is included, so you do not have to purchase a separate PlayStation Link transmitter to use those devices. Compatibility can still depend on the device, software and regional product revision; verify the current support information for a non-Sony computer or accessory before buying.
Pick PULSE Elite if you listen to your phone while playing
Elite can connect directly to compatible phones and tablets over Bluetooth while remaining connected over PlayStation Link. Sony describes simultaneous PlayStation Link and Bluetooth audio, which is useful for a voice call, podcast or music from a phone while game audio comes from the console.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The practical advantage is not merely having Bluetooth; it is keeping both audio sources available at once. If you only need console audio and never use a phone or tablet with the headset, this feature has little value.
Pick PULSE 3D for PS4 support and a simple PlayStation focus
PULSE 3D’s included wireless adapter is specified for PS5, PS4 and compatible Windows/macOS computers. A PS4 owner who does not need Bluetooth or Portal support gets the core wireless console function without paying for Elite-specific features.
Sony says PULSE 3D was specifically tuned for the 3D Audio made possible by PS5 and is also designed for PS4. That wording describes intended platform tuning, not proof that it sounds better than Elite in every game.
Pick PULSE 3D when you need a cable for PS VR or mobile
The PULSE 3D product information lists a 3.5 mm cable path for use with PS VR and mobile devices. Sony warns that the headset’s built-in controls are not supported in those wired contexts, so volume, chat and other adjustments may need to be made on the connected device.

Battery life and charging
What the published numbers mean
Sony rates PULSE Elite for up to 30 hours of battery life and says a 10-minute charge provides up to two hours of use. PULSE 3D’s instruction manual specifies up to 12 hours at mid volume.
These numbers cannot be treated as a laboratory comparison. They come from different Sony documents and conditions: Elite’s page presents an “up to” maximum and quick-charge statement, while the PULSE 3D manual specifies mid-volume use. Microphone use, volume, wireless activity and battery age can reduce the time you actually obtain.
Who benefits from Elite’s battery claim?
- Players who regularly forget to charge overnight and need a short top-up before a session.
- People who use one headset for long gaming days, work calls and travel.
- Households where the headset is shared and charging opportunities are unpredictable.
If your sessions are short and you charge after every use, the difference may not justify choosing Elite by itself. Treat the 30-hour and two-hour figures as planning ceilings, not promises of daily runtime.

PlayStation Link on Elite
Elite’s PlayStation Link adapter is the central connection for PS5, PC and Mac, with support extending to PlayStation Portal. This is distinct from ordinary Bluetooth: PlayStation Link is Sony’s dedicated low-latency wireless system for supported PlayStation devices and the included adapter.
For a desk setup, you can leave the adapter connected to a computer or console and move the headset to another supported PlayStation Link device when needed. The exact switching behavior and available software controls can vary by device and firmware, so check Sony’s current instructions if your setup includes multiple adapters.
PULSE 3D’s adapter-based approach
PULSE 3D uses its included wireless adapter with PS5, PS4 and compatible Windows/macOS computers. It is a straightforward choice for a console-centered setup, but the cited specifications do not list PlayStation Portal support or direct Bluetooth audio.
Neither headset should be assumed to work with every computer, television or handheld simply because it has a USB adapter. “Compatible Windows/macOS computers” is Sony’s qualification for PULSE 3D, and Elite’s support is likewise tied to PlayStation Link-compatible devices.

Elite’s direct Bluetooth support lets it pair with compatible phones and tablets without a second dongle. More importantly, Sony says PlayStation Link and Bluetooth audio can be used simultaneously. That enables combinations such as PS5 game sound plus a phone call or music stream.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
PULSE 3D’s listed features focus on its PlayStation wireless adapter and do not identify Bluetooth. You can still use its documented 3.5 mm connection with PS VR or mobile, but that is a wired arrangement and does not provide the same two-source wireless behavior.
Choose Elite for this capability only if you will use it. Bluetooth does not improve PS5 audio by itself, and simultaneous audio may require balancing two source volumes on the connected devices.
Audio design and PS5 3D Audio
What both headsets have in common
Both products are intended to work with PlayStation 3D Audio. The game must support the relevant audio features, and console settings and the game’s own mix affect what you hear. A headset cannot create positional effects that a title does not provide.
Recommended Free Tools
Elite’s planar magnetic drivers
Elite uses planar magnetic drivers. Sony says this design enhances perception in PS5 games that support 3D Audio. That is a product claim about the intended listening experience; the available official material does not establish a measured sound-quality advantage over PULSE 3D.
PULSE 3D’s tuning statement
Sony describes PULSE 3D as specifically tuned to deliver the 3D Audio made possible by PS5 and designed for PS4 as well. The statement confirms the target platform, not a universal ranking of tonal balance, bass, detail or positional accuracy.
Because no controlled listening test is established here, choose on documented functions first. If sound character is your primary concern, auditioning both with the games you play is more reliable than inferring a winner from the driver terminology.
Microphones and controls
Elite’s retractable boom
Elite has an adjustable, retractable boom microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection. The boom can be positioned near your mouth for chat and stowed when you are listening only. Easy-access mute and volume controls are part of the design.
“AI-enhanced” and “noise rejection” describe Sony’s feature design; they do not prove that Elite produces clearer speech than PULSE 3D in a side-by-side recording. Room acoustics, microphone placement and the chat service also affect results.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
PULSE 3D’s built-in microphones and mixing controls
PULSE 3D uses two built-in noise-cancelling microphones. It adds a dedicated mic-monitoring button, allowing you to hear your own voice, and game/chat mix controls for adjusting the balance between gameplay and conversation.
Those controls are valuable if you frequently change the balance during a match or want to monitor your speaking level without opening a menu. They do not indicate how the microphone will sound to other players; no independent microphone measurement is provided.
Which microphone layout fits you?
- Choose Elite’s boom if you prefer a visible, adjustable microphone that can retract when not needed.
- Choose PULSE 3D’s built-in pair if you want a lower-profile headset and prioritize onboard mic monitoring and game/chat mixing.
- Do not choose on claimed noise rejection alone unless you can test the microphone in your room and chat application.
Wired use, PS VR and mobile listening
PULSE 3D’s 3.5 mm option is the clearest documented advantage for wired use. Sony lists cable use with PS VR and mobile devices, while warning that the headset’s built-in controls are unavailable in those contexts. The cable can therefore serve as a fallback when wireless is unsuitable, but it does not preserve every wireless control.

Weight and comfort: what can and cannot be inferred
Sony’s PULSE 3D manual lists the headset at 292 g. Sony’s Elite safety-guide specification lists approximately 347 g. Elite is therefore about 55 g heavier on the published figures.
That difference is useful context but not a comfort verdict. Comfort depends on how the headband distributes pressure, the ear-cup opening, padding, clamp, glasses, hairstyle and session length. The official material cited here does not provide a controlled comfort comparison, so do not assume the lighter PULSE 3D will fit you better or that Elite’s extra mass will be uncomfortable.
If possible, buy from a seller with a return policy that covers opened headsets. When trying either model, check pressure at the temples, ear clearance, heat after an hour and whether the microphone reaches a natural speaking position.
Price and value
Current US pricing, stock and regional promotions are not established by the cited product pages and manuals. Prices can also differ by country, tax, bundle and sale period, so a fixed “better value” verdict would quickly become misleading.

| If your priority is… | Value is more likely with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Longer stated runtime and quick top-ups | PULSE Elite | Its published claim is up to 30 hours and up to two hours from a 10-minute charge. |
| PS4 plus PS5 wireless use | PULSE 3D | Sony explicitly lists both consoles for its included adapter. |
| Phone audio while game audio continues | PULSE Elite | It supports Bluetooth and simultaneous PlayStation Link/Bluetooth audio. |
| PS VR or mobile through a cable | PULSE 3D | Sony documents a 3.5 mm path for those uses. |
| Onboard game/chat mixing and mic monitoring | PULSE 3D | Those controls are specifically listed for the headset. |
| Retractable boom and dedicated PlayStation Link ecosystem | PULSE Elite | Those are Elite’s documented hardware and connection features. |
Do not pay a premium for a feature you will never use. Conversely, replacing a headset later because it lacks Bluetooth, Portal support or a wired mode can cost more than choosing the right model initially.
Decision guide by player type
PS5-only player with occasional phone use
PULSE Elite is the stronger fit if you want to answer calls or play phone audio without disconnecting from the PS5. If phone audio is irrelevant, compare local prices and prioritize the controls you prefer.
PS5 and PS4 household
PULSE 3D has the clearer documented compatibility because Sony lists both consoles for its adapter. Elite may still suit you if Portal, Bluetooth or longer stated battery life matters more than explicit PS4 support.
PlayStation Portal owner
Elite is the model with documented PlayStation Link support extending to Portal. Confirm the current Portal and headset software requirements before setup.
PC and Mac player who also owns a PS5
Either model can serve compatible Windows/macOS computers through its wireless adapter, but Elite adds PlayStation Link support across more named devices and Bluetooth for phones and tablets. Choose PULSE 3D if its game/chat controls and wired option are more useful.
Competitive voice-chat player
Elite’s adjustable boom may suit players who want a microphone positioned close to the mouth and stowed between matches. PULSE 3D’s mic-monitoring and game/chat controls may suit players who adjust their own voice and mix frequently. Neither choice is supported by an independent microphone-quality test here.

PS VR or wired-mobile user
PULSE 3D is the documented match because Sony lists 3.5 mm cable use for PS VR and mobile and explains the control limitation in wired mode.
What to check before buying
- Confirm the console or computer you will use is named as compatible, rather than assuming any USB port will work.
- Check whether you need PlayStation Portal support; Elite’s PlayStation Link support is the relevant documented feature.
- Decide whether simultaneous phone and console audio is a real requirement.
- Decide whether a 3.5 mm cable is necessary for PS VR, mobile or backup use.
- Compare the current local price, taxes, shipping, warranty and return terms; those details are not fixed by the product specifications.
- Account for the published weights, but evaluate fit and clamp personally instead of treating grams as a comfort ranking.
- Remember that 3D Audio depends on supported games and console configuration.
Bottom line
PULSE Elite is the more capable and flexible headset on paper: up to 30 hours of stated battery life, a quick-charge claim, PlayStation Link support for PS5, PC, Mac and PlayStation Portal, Bluetooth with simultaneous audio, planar magnetic drivers and a retractable boom microphone. PULSE 3D remains the better-targeted choice when you need PS4 support, onboard game/chat mixing, mic monitoring or a documented 3.5 mm connection for PS VR and mobile.
Neither is proven here to sound better, last longer in real-world ownership, feel more comfortable or deliver clearer voice chat. Make the purchase around the connections and controls you will actually use, then verify current regional price and compatibility before ordering.
