The PULSE Elite is a wireless PlayStation headset that uses PlayStation Link (PS Link) for its low-latency console and computer connection and Bluetooth for compatible mobile devices. On PS5, the included USB adapter is already paired, so setup normally takes only a powered USB-A port and a press of the headset’s PS Link button. Most connection failures are resolved by checking the adapter, updating both PS Link devices, or performing the headset’s non-destructive reset.
This guide explains the manufacturer’s battery figures, charging indicators, connection methods, update paths, light patterns, and recovery steps. Runtime and charging numbers below are Sony specifications rather than independent test results.
What the PULSE Elite connects to
Your connection method depends on the host device. PS Link requires the included USB adapter (or another compatible PS Link adapter), while Bluetooth pairs directly with a compatible mobile device. A supported PC or Mac can use the adapter for audio; Windows also has a PlayStation Link PC Driver for updates and audio settings.

Sony’s documentation does not establish simultaneous PS Link and Bluetooth audio for the PULSE Elite. Do not assume that a Bluetooth call and PS Link game audio can be mixed at the same time simply because both transports are supported separately.

How long does the PULSE Elite battery last?
Sony rates the headset for up to 30 hours while playing audio and chatting over PS Link and Bluetooth, measured at 77°F (25°C). “Up to” is a specification under stated conditions, not a guarantee for every unit, volume level, temperature, microphone use pattern, or battery age. No independent runtime measurement is established here.
When the battery is empty, Sony says a full charge takes approximately 2.5 hours. A 10-minute charge is specified to provide about two hours of use. Those figures describe charging from a compatible powered USB-A source with the included cable; a computer that sleeps, a low-power hub, or a damaged cable can change the practical result.
Checking the battery on the headset and PS5
Press the headset’s PS Link button and watch the status indicator for the battery pattern. On PS5, open the Control Center, choose Accessories, and select the headset to view its battery level. The console display is useful when you need a percentage-style view instead of interpreting flashes.

Charging behavior and the charging hanger
During USB charging, the indicator slowly blinks orange. It turns off when charging is complete. The headset can be used while it remains connected to the USB device, so a short cable can keep a session going while the battery recovers.

To charge while the PS5 is in Rest Mode, enable the console’s USB-power feature in PS5 power-saving settings. If that option is disabled, the USB port may stop supplying power when the console sleeps. Sony also documents the PULSE Elite charging hanger as an alternative charging method; it is optional rather than required for normal USB charging.
How do I connect the PULSE Elite to a PS5?
The included PlayStation Link USB adapter is paired with the headset at the factory. Use a powered USB Type-A port on the PS5, then start the wireless link from the headset.
- Turn on the PS5 and insert the included PS Link USB adapter fully into a powered USB Type-A port.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button.
- Watch for a blue blinking indicator while the headset searches. A solid connection indication means the link is active.
- Begin audio playback and adjust the PS5 output and microphone controls if needed.
The search window lasts about 30 seconds. If no available connection is found, the headset turns itself off. Press the PS Link button again to retry; do not keep holding it unless you are intentionally entering another mode or performing a reset.

How do I connect to a Windows PC or Mac?
Using PS Link on a computer
- Start the computer and plug the included PS Link adapter into a powered USB port.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button and wait for the blue search indication to become the connected indication.
- In the operating system’s sound settings, select the PS Link headset as the output and microphone device if it is not selected automatically.
Windows users can install Sony’s PlayStation Link PC Driver to update the headset and adapter and to access the audio settings exposed by the driver. A Mac can use the adapter for USB audio, but the documented computer-based update route is the Windows PC Driver.

How do I pair the PULSE Elite with Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is intended for a compatible mobile device and is separate from the factory-paired PS Link connection.
- On the headset, hold the PS Link button for approximately eight seconds.
- Release it when the status indicator rapidly blinks blue; that pattern indicates Bluetooth pairing mode.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the phone, tablet, or other compatible device, select the PULSE Elite, and confirm pairing.
- Start playback and choose the headset as the active audio route if the device does not switch automatically.
For PS Portal, use the Portal’s accessory-pairing interface while the headset is showing the rapid blue pairing pattern. If a previously paired device reconnects first, temporarily disable Bluetooth on that device or remove the old connection before trying again.
How do I update the PULSE Elite and its adapter?
Update from a PS5
- On the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Choose Accessories.
- Select Headset.
- Open PS Link Device Software Update and follow the on-screen instructions.
Sony also distributes PS Link updates with PS5 system-software updates, so keeping the console current can add an update even when you have not opened the headset menu recently. Update availability and menu wording can change with later system software.
Update from Windows
On a Windows PC, use the PlayStation Link PC Driver to update both the headset and the connected USB adapter. Keep the adapter plugged into a powered port and leave the headset connected or switched on as the driver requests; interrupting power during firmware writing can leave the process incomplete.

PS Link 2.0 compatibility
For troubleshooting involving PS Link 2.0, Sony says the headset and the included adapter should both run software version 2.0 or newer. Updating only one side can leave a version mismatch, so check and update each device before trying to pair again.
Why will my PULSE Elite not connect?
Use this sequence in order. It starts with checks that do not erase settings and ends with destructive pairing resets.
- Verify power and the adapter. Confirm the PS5 or computer is on, the adapter is fully inserted in a compatible powered USB port, and the headset has enough charge to complete a search.
- Retry the search. Press the PS Link button once and allow the approximately 30-second search to finish. If it timed out, press the button again.
- Update both devices. Use the PS5 menu or Windows PC Driver to update the headset and adapter. If the problem involves PS Link 2.0, confirm that both show version 2.0 or newer.
- Re-pair after updating. Follow Sony’s pairing process for the adapter and headset again. Re-pairing is appropriate after a firmware change or when the adapter was previously used with another compatible PS Link device.
- Perform the non-destructive headset reset. Hold the PS Link button for at least 10 seconds until the headset powers off. Press the button once to turn it on and try the connection again. This reset keeps PS Link and Bluetooth pairings and does not remove audio settings.
- Erase pairings only as a last resort. Sony documents a separate two-stage hold procedure that deletes the headset’s PS Link and Bluetooth pairings and its audio settings. Use that procedure only when the previous steps fail, because every device will need to be paired again.
- Reset the adapter if necessary. With the adapter connected to a powered, matching USB port, hold its reset button for 30 seconds. Reconnect it and repeat the normal pairing process.
A USB hub, monitor port, or unpowered extension can prevent reliable detection even when the adapter’s light appears normal. Test a direct PS5 or computer port before assuming the headset hardware has failed.

- Turn the headset off.
- Place it in a well-ventilated area for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Try audio again.
This is a troubleshooting measure, not a guaranteed diagnosis. Do not apply heat, liquid cleaners, or compressed air to the drivers. If the sound continues in a dry environment after the waiting period, repeat the connection and update checks and then use Sony’s support service for hardware-specific assistance.
Common setup mistakes and their fixes
- Using the wrong button hold: a normal PS Link press starts a connection search; an approximately eight-second hold enters Bluetooth pairing; a 10-second hold powers the headset off for a non-destructive reset. Release at the intended interval.
- Expecting PS4 features that are not supported: PS4 can use the adapter, but Sony does not provide battery level, equalizer, sidetone, or 3D-audio controls there.
- Updating only the headset: PS Link 2.0 troubleshooting requires the headset and adapter to be on compatible software. Update both.
- Reading a charging light as a fault: a slow orange blink means charging; the indicator turning off means charging has completed.
- Assuming a Bluetooth connection proves PS Link is active: the two transports have separate pairing states. Pair the adapter and headset for console or computer use, then pair Bluetooth independently for a mobile device.
- Trying to charge from a sleeping console without enabling USB power: configure PS5 Rest Mode USB power or use another powered USB-A source.
When should you reset, re-pair, or seek service?
Choose the least disruptive action that matches the symptom. A simple failed search calls for checking the USB port and pressing the PS Link button again. A problem that began after an update calls for updating both endpoints and re-pairing. A headset that remains unresponsive after those checks warrants the 10-second reset, which preserves settings. Erasing pairings and resetting the adapter are escalation steps because they remove stored relationships and require setup again.
