This Linux Foundation webinar explored how a distributed proxy architecture might simplify the work of making applications reachable publicly or privately. Recorded on December 17, 2020, and sponsored by Volterra, it framed app delivery as a coordination problem across networking and provisioning teams—not as a step-by-step deployment guide.

What the webinar covered

The Linux Foundation lists the session as on demand, recorded December 17, 2020, and sponsored by Volterra. Its speakers were Pranav Dharwadkar, then identified as Volterra’s VP of Products, and Jakub Pavlik, then identified as its Director of Engineering. The event page describes the planned discussion and demo; it does not provide a deployment manual.

Its central concern was the work between building a cloud-native application and making that application available to its users. The webinar description says delivery can involve allocating virtual IP addresses, provisioning a front load balancer, configuring firewall rules, setting up a public domain, and addressing DDoS. It presents these as tasks that may require coordination and repeated iterations across teams, potentially eroding time saved through microservices and cloud-native development. That is the event’s framing, not a universal or current checklist for every application.

The description captures the tension this way: “The time efficiencies gained by adopting microservices and cloud-native technologies can be negated due to the time taken to deliver the app.” This is wording from the Linux Foundation’s event description, not a quotation attributed to either speaker.

What “publicly or privately” meant

The advertised proposal was a “distributed proxy architecture” intended to ease provisioning across different cloud environments. The event page said a live demo would show an application being advertised both publicly and privately. In practical terms, those phrases distinguish an app made reachable through a public-facing route from one made reachable within a private network or other restricted context.

The event description stays at a high level. It does not identify specific products, protocols, configuration steps, security guarantees, or measured improvements. It therefore cannot tell a reader how to implement the architecture, whether it fits a particular network, or how it compares with other ways of exposing an application.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

What the event page does—and does not—establish

  • It establishes the topic and intended demonstration: delivery coordination, a distributed proxy architecture, and examples of public and private app access.
  • It does not establish technical performance: the page publishes no benchmark or quantified result for delivery speed, cost, reliability, or operational effort.
  • It does not establish current product status: the event is historical, and the page alone does not confirm the present availability or status of Volterra’s approach, nor identify a successor.
  • It is not a general deployment recipe: readers looking for concrete implementation guidance will need documentation or training specific to their platform and network.

Further reading for Kubernetes deployment

For readers who want practical background on deploying applications with Kubernetes, Kubernetes for Developers by William Denniss is a separate resource published by Manning. Its listed coverage includes containerizing a web app with Docker, hosting an app on Kubernetes with a public cloud service, stable deployment, scaling, capacity planning, and resource optimization. It is not a manual for the webinar’s proposed architecture.
